Claims (8)
- 제 1조성의 글래스의 실린더형 예비성형물(38)을 제공하고, 예비성형물은 제1 조성의 글래스(56, 56′, 86)로 둘러싸인 중앙에 배치된 글래스 코어를 갖추고 있으며, 글래스 코어는 굴절율이 제 1 조성의 굴절율보다 크고 ; 종방향으로 연장된 다수의 구공(58, 78)을 예비성형물에 형성하며 ; 예비성형물이 중앙에-배치된 글래스 코어를 갖추고 있을 경우 연화점이 제 1 조성물의 연화점보다 낮고 코어 부분이 예비성형물에 제공되어 있지 않을 경우 굴절율이 제 1 조성의 굴절율보다 높은 로드의 적어도 일부분이 제 2 글래스 조성으로 이루어진 다수의 로드(60, 81, 83)를 제공하고 ; 각 로드(60, 81, 83)의 제 1 단부를 각 구공(58, 78)으로 삽입하고 실질적으로 각 구공의 전체 길이가 각 로드로 채워질 때까지 로드를 계속 삽입하고 ; 로드가 용융됨으로써 로드의 상응하는 구공으로 로드가 계속 떨어질 수 없도록 각 로드(60, 81, 83)의 반대 단부를 지지하고 ; 로드(60, 81, 83)가 정지되는 단부의 반대편에 있는 생성된 조립체의 단부를 가열하고 ; 조립체의 가열된 단부로부터 섬유를 연신하는 단계를 포함함을 특징으로 하여 광학섬유를 성형하는 방법.
- 제1항에 있어서, 다수의 로드를 제공하는 단계가 단면적이 구공(58)의 단면적보다 약간 작은 로드(60)를 제공하는 단계를 포함하는데, 단 로드의 반대 단부(65)에서 로드의 단면적은 구공의 단면적보다 크며, 각 로드의 반대 단부를 지지하는 단계는 확대된 로드의 반대 단부(65)가 예비성형물과 맞물려 있고 로드가 구공으로 추가로 들어가는 것이 방지될 때까지 로드(60)의 제 1 단부를 상응하는 구공(58)으로 삽입하는 단계를 포함하는 방법.
- 제2항에 있어서, 로드(60)를 삽입하는 단계에 앞서, 예비성형물이 단부에서 글래스 실린더(68)의 외주에 플랫 단부표면(53)을 삽입시킬 로드(60)를 가지며, 가열 및 연신전에 진공 접속부(74)를 글래스 실린더(68)에 부착시키는 방법.
- 제1항 내지 제3항 중의 어느 한 항에 있어서, 로드(60, 83)가 조성이 글래스 코어와 상이한 클래딩 글래스(64)층으로 둘러싸인 글래스 코어(62)로 이루어지는 방법.
- 제1항 내지 제3항 중의 어느 한 항에 있어서, 로드가 조성이 예비 성형 클래딩 글래스(56)와 동일한 글래스(64)층으로 둘러싸인 글래스 코어(62)로 이루어지는 방법.
- 제1항 내지 제3항 중의 어느 한 항에 있어서, 구공(78)이 비원형 단부표면이고 로드(81, 83)가 실질적으로 구공(78)과 같은 단부표면 배열을 갖는 방법.
- 제1항에 있어서, 예비성형물이 제 1 조성의 글래스(56, 56′, 86)로 둘러싸인 중앙에 배치된 글래스 코어(54, 54′, 85)를 지니고, 글래스 코어(54, 54′, 85)가 굴절율이 제 1 조성보다 큰 방법.
