図1および図2は、第1実施形態のマルチコア光ファイバの製造方法を説明する図である。マルチコア光ファイバの製造にあたっては、まず、母材作製工程として、共通クラッド管10を作製する。
M=2.2×(πr2×h)/3
=2.63×r3
となる。なお、2.2は、ガラスの密度(単位はg/cm3)である。よって、ガラスブロック30が、直円錐の内部に含まれる場合は、ガラスブロック30の質量(単位はg)は、M=2.63×r3未満が好ましいことになる。これにより、ガラスブロック30の質量を小さくしつつ、ガラス滴の形成をより確実にすることができる。
図3は、第2実施形態のマルチコア光ファイバの製造方法を説明する図である。マルチコア光ファイバの製造にあたっては、まず、母材作製工程として、共通クラッド管10を作製する。
Claims (8)
- 第1端と第2端との間で軸方向に形成された複数の空孔を有する石英ガラス製の共通クラッド管を作製する母材作製工程と、
前記共通クラッド管の前記複数の空孔に石英ガラス製のコアロッドを、前記第1端から前記コアロッドの端部を引き込んだ状態で、挿入する挿入工程と、
前記第1端を加熱して前記第1端の側で前記共通クラッド管の外径および前記複数の空孔の内径を収縮させる熱収縮工程と、
前記第1端にガラスブロックを接続して前記複数の空孔を封止する封止工程と、
前記第2端側から前記共通クラッド管の前記複数の空孔の内部を減圧し、前記第1端側から前記共通クラッド管および前記コアロッドを一体化しながら紡糸してマルチコア光ファイバを製造する線引工程と、
を順次含む、マルチコア光ファイバの製造方法。 - 前記挿入工程の前または後に、前記第1端から一定範囲の前記共通クラッド管の外周部をテーパー状に細径化する細径化工程を含む、請求項1に記載のマルチコア光ファイバの製造方法。
- 前記細径化工程は、前記第1端において、前記共通クラッド管の最外周の空孔と共通クラッド管外周部との肉厚を10mm以下とする工程である、請求項2に記載のマルチコア光ファイバの製造方法。
- 前記第1端において、前記複数の空孔の隣接する空孔間の肉厚が10mm以下である、請求項1から請求項3のいずれかに記載のマルチコア光ファイバの製造方法。
- 前記ガラスブロックは、頂部と前記第1端側に接続される底部とを有する形状である、請求項1から請求項4のいずれかに記載のマルチコア光ファイバの製造方法。
- 前記ガラスブロックの質量は、前記底部の半径をr(cm)としたとき、2.63×r3(g)未満である、請求項5に記載のマルチコア光ファイバの製造方法。
- 前記ガラスブロックの高さh(cm)は、1.15r以上である、請求項6に記載のマルチコア光ファイバの製造方法。
- 前記ガラスブロックは、前記線引工程の開始前に溶融延伸により前記空孔の前記第1端側の封止を保ったまま除去される、請求項1から請求項7のいずれかに記載のマルチコア光ファイバの製造方法。
