Abstract
In a backstitch sewing process, a sewing machine is used to cross the loops of the upper and lower threads. As the needle penetrates the fabric with the upper thread, forming a loop on the underside of the material, the lower thread is passed through at right angles to the plane of the loop. The stitch is knotted when all the loops have been secured by the lower thread, the fabric remaining stationary while the seam is being executed. The conventional cop for the lower thread is eliminated which, in a conventional sewing machine, has to be changed every 3-4 mins. at high working speeds. The result is less stoppages and less attention to the equipment by the operative.
