Abstract

1,162,486. Sewing-machines. UNION SPECIAL MACHINE CO. 7 May, 1968 [8 May, 1967], No. 21447/68. Heading D1G. [Also in Division A3] A twin vertical needle lockstitch sewing machine for sewing together brassiere cups is provided with an auxiliary housing containing a horizontally reciprocable needle. The cups 88, 89 are stitched together firstly by the horizontal needle and then as the fabric is advanced it is folded as in Fig. 18 by a "seam buster" 130 and a tape 140 fed in and folded by a channel below the seam; the cups are then stitched to the tap 140 by the twin needles 13. The horizontal needle on needle bar 25 is driven in such a way as to feed the fabric towards the twin needles 13 the amount of feed being adjustable. Three thread tensioners 166, 172, 172 are provided for the threads to the three needles. The rotary hooks 17, 23 are continuously driven. Fabric feed comprises also two rollers 162, 164, the roller 162 being driven and the freely rotating roller 164 being spring unged against it.
