Abstract

Rotary pump, while suitable for all liqs. is partic. useful in pumping the wine harvest after crushing the grapes. It comprisess a cylindrical stator which is arranged concentrically inside the cylindrical rotor; the cylindrical interior of the latter is eccentric with respect to the rotor. The stator is pierced with inlet and outlet orifices and by a diametrical slot for the passage of the blade. The outside surface of the rotor is driven in the direction by a motor and a belt or chain; as the rotor turns, the blade bears continuously on the internal surface of the rotor and creates a suction in the downstream direction and compression in the upstream direction. The length of the blade can vary according to the position of the rotor, so it is made in two parts; these are sepd. by a rubber lining which absorbs these differences in length. To avoid any leakage caused by wear, a soft, adjustable blade, backed by a spring, is mounted in the rotor at the point where it makes tangential contact with the stator. The pump, during its operating cycle, of the simultaneous actions of suction and compression, operates at a max. torque which is well below that needed for pumps of the conventional piston type.
