Abstract

A continuous tube is fed axially about a hollow mandrel and is cut by a blade (7) so as to form a longitudinal slot which allows the tube to pass over a feed or exit passage (5) in the mandrel for groups of goods to be packaged. After passing the passage (5) the free edges of the slot are rejoined by typically a heating device (12) to form a complete tube again. The tube then passes to the mandrel interior and receives the goods which are passed into the mandrel and the tube and goods pass out of the exit passage (5). The tube may receive a sleeve formed in a similar manner by using two aligned mandrels.
