Abstract

1,112,293. Wrapping-machines. C. F. TAYLOR (UNITY DESIGNS) Ltd. 26 May, 1965 [26 May, 1964], No. 21749/64. Heading B8C. Articles are wrapped in heat-shrinkable film by forming a curtain of the latter and thrusting each article or group of articles, fed in at right-angles to the direction of thrusting, on to the film, heat-sealing and severing jaws closing behind it, causing the article to be enveloped in a tube. The article may then pass through a heat-shrinking tunnel (not described) to close off the tube ends. Articles, fed in between plates 6, 7 on rollers 5 which may be driven, are each located by a stop (not shown) on a pusher 2. Webs 36 from rolls 12, 13, previously joined to form the curtain, extend in front of welding and cutting jaws 14, 15. The entering article operates a switch causing the pusher to thrust it with the web between the jaws and on to a conveyer 20. After withdrawal of the pusher, the jaws close to sever the package and re-establish the curtain, and the conveyer, operated intermittently by a pneumatic cylinder means 51, removes the package for further treatment. Chains 53, 57, driven also by the means 51, rotate feed rollers 45, 47 to draw off more of the webs. In an alternative web feed, link means (not shown) attached to the pusher drive 21, 23, draws off the web as the pusher moves backwards, loops passing round rollers mounted on these link means being loosened as it pushes the article forward. The machine is fully adjustable for various article sizes.
