[Also in Group XXX] A machine for packaging perforated articles such as rivets having a central bore, with their bores in alignment, comprises means to thread the articles onto a looped wire 36, a drive reel 42 for impelling the rivets around the loop to a mandrel portion 37 of the wire, and means to wrap the articles while on the mandrel portion. Rivets 25 are fed by known means along a shoot 24 to a feed wheel 28 having arms 29 each consisting of two resilient strips 30, 31 which are separated by a cam 33 adjacent the shoot to enable them to grip the rivet shanks. The arms thread the rivets on a wire 36 in a guide tube 39, the rivets travelling to a loop 37 of the wire coiled round a rotating drum 42 which acts as a feed member passing the stream of rivets around the coil and down a guide tube 50 to a first wrapper folding device 61. The device 61 receives wrapping material (metal foil) from a roll 58 and folds it round a former (not shown) through which the wire and rivets pass. The rivets, with the wrapping, pass between rubber surfaced rollers 66, 67 after having been separated into batches by a spacer pawl 82 reciprocating into and out of the rivet path to pinch the package material under the influence of a cam 81. The rollers press the wrapping about the rivets, the wrapping having a single fold with its free margins superposed. If the wrapping material is heat sealable, the rollers 66, 67 are heated and the package emerges from them complete to be cut to desired length. Alternatively and as shown, the package strip passes along the wire 36 to a further folder 70, which turns over the wrapper free edge, and to rollers 71, 72, to form a seam 73 Fig. 11.
