Abstract

Fermentation is carried out in a closed tank with a removable lid in which temp. is held at 25-30 degrees C by a thermostatic heater and pressure at 10-100 gms/cm2 above atmospheric, by a water manometer communicating with the space above liquid in the tank. A pump with an outlet leading into tank close to bottom is used to feed e.g. SO2 (produced by burning S), to control the reaction. Pref. the tank is fitted with a sampling cock.
