Abstract

Proteins are obtained by the cultivation of yeasts belonging to the genus Candida or Saccharomyces in a nutrient medium containing methanol as carbon source, sources of N, vitamins and inorganic salts. The fermentation temp. is pref. 4-40 degrees C and esp., ca. 30 degrees C. The pH of the aqs. nutrient medium is pref. 3-7 and esp., ca 5. Methanol is a cheap starting material obtained from natural gas. The proteins obtained are not contaminated with toxic materials.
