Abstract
1309807 Raising sunken objects ERNO RAUMFAHRTTECHNIK GmbH 19 June 1970 [19 June 1969] 29995/70 Heading B7S A variable buoyancy device for raising objects from the sea bed comprises an open bottom cylinder 1 which is weighted to remain upright, and a reaction chamber 3 for generating a gas which is transferred to the cylinder through valve 4 to vary the buoyancy of the device. Chamber 3 is fed with CH 3 OH and H 2 O 2 from containers 5, 6 at a rate determined by the water level in the cylinder, and the temperature and pressure of the gas, to produce a desired speed of ascent. A thermally insulated free piston 2 separates the gas from the water and the inner wall of the cylinder can also be lined with insulating material. Ports 9 vent excess pressure from the cylinder.
