Abstract
Al plates (pref. corrugated) are stacked vertically in a container of electrolyte. The max. level of electrolyte is maintained by a carburetter float arrangement. As the pressure of gas increases within the chamber it actuates a release valve which permits the electrolyte to flow out into a reservoir. The amalgam on the plates is easily regenerated by placing a small amt. of Hg in a receptacle in the container base and making it anodic w.r.t. the Al plates. Gas is produced in a safe, controlled manner.
