Abstract

1,110,630. Buoyancy control system. BLUE MERIDIAN CO. Inc. 12 Oct., 1966 [22 Oct., 1965], No. 45691/66. Headings B7A and B7M. The volume of the air space within the free-flooding buoyancy chamber 10 of a buoyancy control system is controlled by the adjustable water level sensing means 22 which is electrically connected to an air supply means by cable 30 and causes air to be introduced into the chamber 10 through air lines 14a, 14b and inlet ports 10a, 10b when the water of the air-water interface of the air space within the chamber contacts the water level sensing means 22. Opening 15a of a vertically adjustable pipe 15 provides fluid communication between the interior of the chamber 10 and the surrounding water and as bar 20 fixed to pipe 15 adjustably supports the water level sensing means 22 which is fixed to platform 24, vertical movement of pipe 15 by handle 16 decreases buoyancy by allowing air to escape when the air-water interface of the air space within the chamber is at or below opening 16a and increases buoyancy by causing air to be introduced when the interface is at or above the water level sensing means. Fig. 3 (not shown) illustrates the buoyancy control system attached to an anti-shark cage. It may also be part of a mine or warhead or be attached to a submarine observation platform or prospecting device.
