Abstract

1,118,944. Wells &c. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 27 May, 1966, No. 23827/66. Heading E1F. An underwater well-head installation comprises a chamber 1 mounted on a tube 8 cemented to the formation 2 below the bottom 4 of the water such that the top 9 is substantially flush with said bottom 4. The well-head 15 is arranged in the chamber with outlet conduit 16 passing either through the side 6 or bottom 7. The top 9 is removable for access to the chamber which may contain a ladder 18. In another arrangement, the top is part spherical and contains an access door. The tube extends up into the chamber to support a working platform, the space beneath the platform being used to store a liquid, e.g. glycol, which is injected by a pump into the well-head to prevent hydrate forming in a gas-producing well. In a modification a tank for the anti-hydrate formation liquid may be situated in said space.
