Abstract

994,040. Submerged tanks. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. Dec. 5, 1962 [Dec. 7, 1961], No. 45940/62. Heading E1H. [Also in Divisions B7 and F1] An installation for gathering fluid from underwater wells, comprises a vessel adapted to be positioned buoyantly under water at a selected depth having separate fluid intake and discharge means and a fluid receiving tank. As shown, the vessel 11 comprises at least one normally closed buoyancy chamber 46 and at least one chamber 44 whose buoyancy can be controlled. Chamber 44 is in direct communication via openings 45 with the water surrounding vessel 11, the level of the water in chamber 44 being sensed by meter 90 (Fig. 7, not shown) which controls a valve in a gas line for introducing gas into the chamber. The vessel is held fast by anchors 16, each anchor line 13, 14, 15 being of a length sufficient to reach from its respective anchor to the vessel when the vessel is floating on the surface of the water. Pendant weights 30, 31 and 32 e.g. chains are positioned between the ends of the anchor lines (Fig. 3, not shown) such that some part of them is in contact with the seabed. The vessel 4 has a flexible flow lines, 37, for discharging liquid e.g. oil to a remote location; 38 extending to the same location where it is connected to a gas source; 40 extending to a well for flow of fluid from the well to the vessel and 41 extending to the well for supplying gas to the well. The vessel also contains a separator for separating at least oil from the production fluid of the well and pumping means for transferring the oil from the vessel 11.
