The internal space 6 communicates with a chamber 12 of the pressure regulator 10, while compressed air through a throttle valve 15 enters a chamber 13 of the regulator 10 and the space 7 above the bell 4. Excess pressure within the chamber 13 raises a membrane 11 within the regulator 10 to exhaust to atmosphere through a nozzle 14, so that the pressure in the space 7 follows that in the space 6. Further, Fig. 2 (not shown), a reservoir (16) may supply liquid to the bath 2, excess liquid leaving through a drain pipe (18) to a receiving reservoir (17), while pipes 21, 22 connect the spaces above the liquid in the reservoirs (16), (17) to the chamber 13 of the regulator 10. Alternatively, Fig. 3 (not shown), the membrane (25) may be incorporated directly into the wall of the vessel 1, the chamber 12 being replaced by the direct action of the pressure within the vessel 1.
