Abstract

A traverse guide in a winding device has a drum (2) having a zig-zag slit (1) formed in it, and through which a yarn (3) passes so that as the drum (2) rottes, the slit (1) traverses the yarn backwards and forwards to produce a cross-wound package (14). An auxiliary yarn guide (13) having a V-shaped shank (133) and a hookend (132) is provided between the package support (9) and the traverse guide. The shank (133) is arranged parallel to the drum axis. The yarn contacts the shank of the auxiliary guide during traverse and is better controlled. The hook end limits and controls movement of the yearn or the end of a traverse ensuring that the yarn is not wound parallelly for a short period at the end of the traverse.
