Abstract
1,181,244. Yarn guides; crimping yarns. LEESONA CORP. 31 Jan., 1967 [25 March, 1966], No. 4605/67. Headings DID and D1F. A substantially frictionless yarn guide 10 comprises two plates 12 and means to emit compressed fluid between the plates so that a yarn Y passing therebetween floats on a cushion of the fluid. Pins 16 prevent the yarn engaging the fluid outlet if not entirely supported by the fluid. The guide may be used on a winding machine (Figure 2, not shown) so that as the yarn traverses the package it is drawn more or less deeply into the guide to maintain constant tension. The guide may also cooperate (Figure 5, not shown) with a fluid driven wheel around which the yarn passes. The guide may also be incorporated in the heater of a false twist machine to change the direction of travel of the yarn, without contacting it or affecting the false twist, so that the length of path of the yarn through the heater is increased.
