Abstract

1,116,538. Finding thread ends. W. REINERS. 11 Aug., 1965 [17 Aug., 1964], No. 34340/65. Heading D1J. In apparatus wherein a pivoted slot type, suction nozzle 4 finds the thread end. of a wound package 2 which is rotated in the unwinding direction for this purpose, a thread dividing device, e.g. a knife 8 is provided on and adjacent the nozzle so that if a loop 7 is drawn into the nozzle the portion of the loop 7" leading to the free thread end is severed to leave a single thread in the nozzle for the subsequent operation, e.g. knotting. The knife 8 may be oscillated during at least part of the end seeking operation. In an alternative form thread dividing means similar to hair clippers may be used. The thread dividing device may be pivoted on the the region of the slot only during operation of the slot particularly in machines in which the package is pivoted into the region of the nozzle for the purpose of thread seeking.
