Abstract

Surplus ink is removed from the surface of intaglio printing plate 3 mounted on a rotatable cylinder 9 by means of a plurality of radially extending flexible strips 2 mounted on a roller 1 which is rotated at high speeds. The surplus ink is projected from the strips 2 by centrifugal force on to a train of rollers 4-7 which delivers it to a recovery blade 8. The strips 2 may be of a plastics material and a plurality of the removal and recovery units may be provided for multi-colour printing.
