Abstract

The products of the partial oxidation of cyclohexane by molecular oxygen are freed from cyclohexyl peroxides by adding a catalytic amount of dispersible copper and manganese salts and stripping the unreacted cyclohexane therefrom. The residue containing the salts may then be admixed with a monocarboxylic acid, contacted with molecular oxygen and the resulting adipic acid separated. The salts may be acetates or naphthenates and are either soluble in, or capable of being suspended or dispersed in the partially oxidised mixture.
