Abstract
Organic compounds are oxidised using an oxygen donor and a peroxide according to the following shceme;- X + H2O2 right arrow XO + H2O XO + RH right arrow ROH + X Peroxides other than H2O2 such as alkaline mono and di persulphates can also be used. X is pref., Se but Os, Co, Va, Mn, Cr, Fe and I may also be used. High yields and pure product obtained. Oxygen carrier and reaction solvent may be recycled. Suitable for large scale manufacture. Esp. useful for preparation of picolinic acid from 2-methyl pyridine.
