Definitions
- the invention relates to a film bag according to claim 1.
- the film bag is in particular a film packaging bag, with various configurations being possible.
- Foil packaging bags can be equipped, for example, with stand-up bases, gussets, carrying handles, pouring spouts, reclosures or the like.
- Foil packaging bags are suitable for providing, storing and transporting a wide variety of foods, household chemicals and other everyday goods.
- film packaging bags can be used for solid, lumpy, granular or powdery as well as liquid or pasty products, which are optimally protected by the bag body.
- Film packaging bags of this type are closed tightly or largely tightly after filling, so that safe transport and safe storage are then possible. If the film bag has a reclosure, further storage is possible even after opening it for the first time.
- the material for the bag wall is often a laminated composite as a bag film with an inner film made of polyethylene (PE) and an outer film based on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or biaxially oriented polypropylene (BO-PP), with a printed layer in such a laminated composite before the Gluing the inner film to the outer film is applied to the inside of the contact surface either on the outer film or the inner film and is then visible through the transparent outer film.
- PE polyethylene
- PET polyethylene terephthalate
- BO-PP biaxially oriented polypropylene
- Such conventional foil packaging bags are characterized by a particularly high-quality appearance and good functional properties.
- a single-variety plastic recycling is not possible, which is why corresponding film packaging bags as disposable items are usually landfilled or at best incinerated after use, with at least thermal recycling being possible.
- Single-origin plastic waste on the other hand, can be easily recycled, although the printing ink that is often present on the bag wall can, depending on the composition, hinder the formation of high-quality recycled products.
- JPH 5-84640 U a film bag for refilling a liquid is proposed, which is provided with a peripheral separate banderole.
- the film bag is stabilized by the separate, comparatively stiff banderole, and a user can also easily grip the film bag by the banderole.
- multi-layer film bags and film packaging are known in which individual layers are peelable, ie are connected so that they can be separated from one another. Fastening seams are produced whose bond strength is adjusted in such a way that these fastening seams are separated when a tensile force is exerted on the contact surface of the successive layers.
- Various embodiments of such film bags and film packaging are, for example, in JPH 8-2536 A , US 2018/0009587 A1 , U.S. 3,114,643 A and U.S. 6,280,085 B1 described.
- a generic film bag is out EP 3 168 169 A1 ( 1 ) known.
- the printed material section only extends over a middle area and is attached there to permanent, ie non-peelable attachment seams in the form of heat-sealed seams on the underlying front wall.
- the two opposite front walls are each provided with a printed material section, such a design being particularly preferred within the scope of the present invention.
- the majority of the printed material section can be removed for optimized recycling be torn along lines of weakness which run directly adjacent to the sealing seams on the longitudinal edges. Narrow edges of the material section remain only directly at the heat-sealed seams. If the material section is deliberately not printed there, the bag body remaining after the material section has been torn off is completely unprinted. Simple recycling is then possible, particularly in the case of a single-variety configuration.
- the present invention is based on the object of specifying a film bag that has a high-quality appearance, has good functional properties and enables improved recycling.
- the continuous connecting seam closed in the form of a frame also avoids or at least significantly reduces the risk of soiling between the material section and the associated front wall. This applies even if, according to a variant described in more detail below, the material section has an opening within the frame-like closed connecting seam, because in typical applications during storage, transport and also use of the film bag, the edge areas are exposed to a greater risk of contamination.
- the material section is attached to the assigned front wall by the frame-like closed, continuous connecting seam, suitable measures can be taken to allow the bag film on the one hand and at least part of the material section to be recycled separately after the film bag has been used.
- the material section is essentially unconnected to the associated front wall within the connecting seam. After crushing the foil bag at least separate particles of the bag film on the one hand and of the material section on the other are formed in the unconnected areas. A separation is then possible with technical means. For example, optical devices can be used to determine whether the individual particles are printed, so that suitable sorting is possible on this basis.
- Sorting can also be carried out, for example, by air separation if the bag film on the one hand and the material section on the other hand have a sufficiently different thickness with a comparable density of the materials used in each case.
- the density is, for example, in a range between 0.9 g/cm 3 and 1 g/cm 3 , for example between 0.92 g/cm 3 and 0.97 g/cm 3 . If particles with the same area are then cut from the bag film on the one hand and the printed material section on the other hand, the weight of the different particles essentially depends on the thickness given a comparable density of the materials. The different particles can then be separated from one another by air classification.
- the thickness ratio of the bag film to the material section is at least 3:2, with a thickness ratio between 2:1 and 6:1 being particularly preferred from a practical point of view.
- the bag film is expediently unprinted. If, however, as part of the measures described above, particles are separated by optical means after the film bag has been shredded, printed parts of the bag film could also be sorted out, so that a reliable division into a high-quality and a less high-quality particle fraction can then take place. However, the disadvantage would then arise that with the printed sections of the bag film, due to the greater thickness, a relatively large amount of material would be assigned to the less valuable fraction.
- the bag film could be printed with a printing ink that is water-soluble, for example.
- a printing ink that is water-soluble
- the bag film is initially well protected from environmental influences by the material section arranged on it.
- only small areas of the bag film are provided with an imprint that does not lead to any significant impairment of the corresponding particle fraction.
- very small imprints in the sense of positioning marks or the like can be expedient for the manufacturing process without the corresponding recycling material being excessively impaired as a result.
- the material section has a weakened area adjacent to the fastening seam in order to be able to separate a frame fastened to the connecting seam from a central piece of the material section by separating the material within the material section. It is thus possible for a user, after using the film bag, to consciously tear off the center piece from the bag body, so that separate sorting and disposal is then possible from the outset.
- the material section is only printed on the central piece, so that the frame remaining on the associated front wall is then unprinted along the connecting seam.
- the entire remaining body of the bag is then not provided with printing ink and can be used as a particularly high-quality recycling product. This applies in particular when--as described in more detail below--the bag film and the material section are formed from a single type of polymer, in particular a polyolefin.
- single-variety is understood in particular when the various components are made of polyethylene or polypropylene, for example, with polyethylene or polypropylene of different densities such as ULDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, MDPE, LMDPE, HDPE being able to be recycled together as a mixture .
- polyethylene or polypropylene of different densities such as ULDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, MDPE, LMDPE, HDPE
- the center piece can be torn out by a user, various facilitating measures can be provided for this purpose.
- the weakened area has a weakened line or is formed by a weakened line.
- a weakening can initially result from the fact that the polymer material of the material section is weakened solely due to the formation of the connecting seam. This applies in particular if the connecting seam is formed as a heat-sealed seam according to a preferred embodiment of the invention.
- a weakening can result adjacent to the heat sealing seam solely due to the effect of temperature and the mechanical stress on the sealing jaws. Low strength is often observed at the root of the seam, that is to say at the lateral edge of such a heat-sealed seam.
- a weakening line can also be deliberately formed. This can be, without limitation, a perforation, an embossing, a section of material non-completely severing incision, laser line, or the like. The material can be weakened in its polymeric structure and/or partially cut or removed by a laser.
- an access opening can additionally or alternatively also be provided in the material section within the frame. For example, an area of the material section lying within the frame can be punched out. Such an access opening can, for example, be large enough for a user to insert a finger there. If a user then engages in this engagement opening, the middle piece can easily be torn off.
- the access opening is expediently arranged adjacent to the connecting seam, in particular in a corner area. Since the access opening is not located directly on the edge of the front wall, but is arranged inside the frame, good protection against accidental tearing off is achieved.
- a separate tear-off tab can be attached to the material section inside the frame.
- the tear-off tab can be formed, for example, from a foil strip which is firmly glued or sealed onto the material section at one end and can be gripped by a user at its other end.
- Corresponding tear-off tabs are known from the packaging sector, for example from packaging for handkerchiefs.
- the bag film is essential for the structural stability and shape of the bag body, while the printed material portion essentially serves as a type of information carrier and not essential must contribute to stabilization.
- the printed material section can thus be made comparatively thin, with the thickness being for example between 10 ⁇ m and 80 ⁇ m, in particular between 20 ⁇ m and 50 ⁇ m.
- the material section is formed in one layer from a monofoil, which can then be printed both on the inside in the direction of the associated front wall or on the outside.
- the film forming the material section or at least one layer of such a film can be monoaxially or biaxially oriented.
- an at least two-layer structure of the material section with a sealing layer and an outer layer can also be considered.
- the sealing layer and the outer layer can also be formed from a single type of polyethylene or polypropylene, for example, although different types or blends can be used with regard to the different requirements. If, for example, the sealing layer has a low melting or softening point compared to the outer layer, the appearance of the film bag on the outside is not impaired by the sealing seam at a suitable sealing temperature.
- the material section can also have an internal imprint which is arranged between the sealing layer and the outer layer at an internal transition. Further layers can of course also be provided.
- the sealing layer and the outer layer are also further variants in order to be able to tear off the center piece easily enable as previously described. Provision can be made for the sealing layer and the outer layer to be connected in a non-connected or peelable manner, optionally with the integration of further layers, in a partial edge section arranged above a section of the connecting seam, with the sealing layer and the outer layer being permanently connected in this way, optionally with the integration of further layers adjacent to the partial edge section that when the center piece of the material section is torn off from the associated front wall, starting from the edge section, the sealing layer tears and thus a layer separation at the permanent connection is avoided.
- the material section and the associated front wall are connected to one another exclusively at the connecting seam.
- the entire area of the material section lying within the connecting seam can then be easily separated by tearing it off or crushing it.
- individual connection points are provided for stabilization within the connection seam that is closed all around.
- connection points are formed by heat sealing, for example, they can be permanent or peelable without limitation.
- a permanent connection is then easy to produce, as is the case with the connecting seam itself.
- the imprint of the material section is also omitted at such connection points, so that no unwanted color residues remain on the bag film or are connected to the bag film.
- the connecting seam is preferably designed as a heat-sealed seam.
- the typical width of the connecting seam is between 1.5 mm and 10 mm, in particular between 2 mm and 8 mm.
- the bag film is formed from a single type of polyolefin, although thin functional and barrier layers are also possible.
- the bag film and the material section are particularly preferably made of a single type of polyolefin, for example of a single type of polyethylene or of a single type of polypropylene.
- the thickness of the bag film is typically between 50 ⁇ m and 300 ⁇ m, preferably between 80 ⁇ m and 170 ⁇ m.
- the material section only extends over a partial area of the front wall and is fastened there in the manner described in the manner of a frame with the continuous connecting seam.
- the material section particularly preferably extends over the entire assigned front wall or essentially over the entire assigned front wall, resulting in a double-walled design overall.
- both front walls can also be provided with an associated material section in the manner described, so that the film bag according to the invention cannot be distinguished from a conventional film bag, at least at first glance.
- the bag film is preferably unprinted. Proceeding from this, however, the bag film itself can be colored to a large extent clear, opaque or non-transparent, in particular white. Many plastic materials are clear or opaque in their pure form, so that this appearance results without the addition of additives.
- a colorant that is harmless for many applications such as, for example, titanium dioxide
- the film bag can also have functional elements such as pressure fasteners (zippers), zip fasteners (sliders) or pouring spouts.
- functional elements such as pressure fasteners (zippers), zip fasteners (sliders) or pouring spouts.
- Corresponding functional elements can without further be formed from the same material as the bag film, so that they then do not hinder recycling.
- the film bag comprises, on the one hand, the bag film and, on the other hand, the printed material section fastened in the form of a frame on at least one front wall formed from the bag film.
- the material section is usually also formed by a conventional foil.
- the separately manufactured and provided bag film on the one hand and the film for forming the material section on the other hand can then be supplied and handled differently.
- the bag body can be formed from a single material cut of the bag film or also from several sections of the bag film. If the foil bag has side folds, these side folds can either be inserted by folding from a single material cut or can be provided as separate strips when several sections are joined together.
- the bag film it is also possible first to connect the bag film to the film to form the material section and only then to finish shaping the bag.
- Such an upstream connection of the bag film and the further film can also be effected by adhesive, so that no additional heat sealing is then necessary for the connection where adhesive is provided.
- the bag film and a film forming the section of material may have longitudinal stripes of adhesive be connected, in which case a connection by adhesive or a connection by heat sealing is also possible in the transverse direction, depending on the process control.
- the connecting seam it is also possible within the scope of the invention for the connecting seam to be formed in different ways on different sections. All that is essential to the invention is that the connecting seam runs around the edge of the material section permanently, cannot be separated and is closed overall in the form of a frame.
- FIGS. 1A and 1B show a film bag with a bag body 2 made of a bag film and having two opposite front walls 1, wherein in the illustrated embodiment an associated printed material section 3 is attached to each front wall 1 with a permanent, non-separable connecting seam 4 in the form of a heat-sealed seam closed in the shape of a frame.
- the area of the material section 3 within the connecting seam 4 is not connected to the associated front wall 1 in each case.
- the material section 3 is less thick than the bag film, ie the associated front wall 1 .
- the material sections 3 extend over the entire surface of the respectively associated front wall 1, so that according to the Figure 1B a kind of double-walled construction results.
- the material sections 3 are each provided with an imprint 7 only in a central piece 6 surrounded by a weakening line 5 .
- the front walls 1 and a frame 8 of the material section 3 running around the center piece 6, with which the material section 3 is attached to the connecting seam 4, are completely unprinted.
- the bag body 2 having the front walls 1 and the material sections 3 are made of a single type of polyolefin, for example of a single type of polyethylene or of a single type of polypropylene, although different types or blends can be considered.
- the bag film, which forms the front walls 1, made of polyethylene with a thickness of 100 ⁇ m
- the material sections are each formed from a machine direction oriented polyethylene (MDO-PE) with a thickness of 25 ⁇ m.
- MDO-PE machine direction oriented polyethylene
- the material sections 3 have good mechanical properties, a high-quality appearance and good printability.
- the material sections 3 according to the Figure 1B printed on its side facing the respective front wall 1, so that the imprint 7 is well protected.
- the particles formed from the bag film on the one hand and the material section 3 on the other hand can thus be easily and reliably separated from one another.
- These particles are also comparatively heavy and can be separated together with the particles of the bag film. Since this third particle fraction is also not provided with an imprint according to a preferred embodiment of the invention, very good recycling is possible overall.
- the previously described weakening line 5 is provided, which can be in the form of a notch, perforation or laser seam.
- a notch is shown as an example in this context. In this context, it should be pointed out that such a separately formed weakening line 5 is not absolutely necessary, depending on the design.
- a weakened area can also arise because the polymer material at the edge of the connecting seam 4 has a reduced strength due to the effect of pressure and temperature due to the production of the connecting seam 4 .
- an engaging hole 9 is provided within the frame 8.
- the access opening 9 is provided in the area of a corner of the bag.
- the handle opening 9 is selected to be large enough that a user can insert a finger there and then tear out the central piece 6, as a result of which all printed material is removed from the bag body 2.
- FIG. 1 shows an alternative embodiment, a separate tear-off tab 10 being attached to the material section 3 within the frame 8 .
- One end of the tear-off tab 10 is firmly glued or sealed to the material section 3, while the other end of the tear-off tab 10 can be gripped with a finger, so that the center piece 6 can then be removed by pulling on the tear-off tab 10.
- the film bag has only two front walls 1 which are connected directly to one another.
- a film bag in the form of a gusseted bag is shown as an example. Additional side folds 11 run between the two front walls 1, with an internal functional element 12 in the form of a reclosure also being indicated in a head region of the bag body 2.
- an internal functional element 12 in the form of a reclosure also being indicated in a head region of the bag body 2.
- Also according to the 3 is attached to one of the front walls 1 of the material section 3 as described above with a permanent, inseparable seam.
- a specially designed partial edge section 13 is provided at one corner of the bag body 2, which in connection with the Figures 4a and 4b will be explained further.
- the material section 3 has a two-layer structure with a sealing layer 14 and an outer layer 15 .
- the imprint 7 can also be arranged on the inside between the sealing layer 14 and the outer layer 15, so that optimum protection results.
- the sealing layer 14 and the outer layer 15 are above a section of the connecting seam 5 arranged partial edge section 13 is not connected or can be peeled off, i.e.
- a release layer can be provided on the partial edge section 13, for example before a laminating adhesive is applied. In order to avoid a connection, the laminating adhesive can also be left out there.
- the bond strength between the sealing layer 14 and the outer layer 15 is thus greater than the strength of the sealing layer 14 along the thickness, for which purpose weakening lines (not shown) can also be provided in principle.
- a controlled cohesive fracture is achieved within the sealing layer 14 and an adhesive fracture between the sealing layer 14 and the outer layer 15 or a layer of laminating adhesive provided there is avoided on the center piece 6 .
- the printed film material of the material section 3 can be separated from the unprinted bag body.
- the width of the connecting seam 4 is usually between 2 mm and 8 mm.
