Abstract
Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft einen neuartigen, schnellen Initiierungsmechanismus zur anionischen, ringöffnenden Polymerisation von Lactonen mittels latenter Initiatoren auf der Basis von thermisch aktivierbaren N-heterozyklischen Carben-Verbindungen, wie insbesondere N-heterozyklischen Carben-CO2-, Carben-CS2- bzw. Carben-Metall-Verbindungen (NHC). So können mit dem neuen Initiierungsmechanismus bei der Polymerisation von ε-Caprolacton Molekulargewichte von 2 000 bis über 20 000 g/mol und enge Polydispersitaten realisiert werden. Die Polymerisationen können sowohl in Substanz als auch in Lösung durchgeführt werden. Verbindungen dieses Typs sind thermisch latent und initiieren bei Erwärmung eine Polymerisation zu Polylactonen in zum Teil hohen Ausbeuten, bis hin zu einer quantitativen Umsetzung, während bei Raumtemperatur eine Reaktion unterbleibt. Polydispersität und Molekulargewicht des Polylactons lassen sich durch Wahl des Initiators und der Reaktionsbedingungen einstellen.
Description
Lacton-Polymerisation mit latenten Initiatoren Gebiet der Erfindung
Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft einen neuartigen, schnellen Initiierungsmechanismus zur anionischen, ringöffnenden Polymerisation von Lactonen mittels latenter Initiatoren auf der Basis von thermisch aktivierbaren N-heterozyklischen Carben-Verbindungen, wie
insbesondere N-heterozyklischen Carben-C02-, Carben-CS2- bzw. Carben-Metall- Verbindungen (NHC). So können mit dem neuen Initiierungsmechanismus bei der
Polymerisation von ε-Caprolacton Molekulargewichte von 2 000 bis über 20 000 g/mol und enge Polydispersitaten realisiert werden. Die Polymerisationen können sowohl in Substanz als auch in Lösung durchgeführt werden. Verbindungen dieses Typs sind thermisch latent und initiieren bei Erwärmung eine Polymerisation zu Polylactonen in zum Teil hohen
Ausbeuten, bis hin zu einer quantitativen Umsetzung, während bei Raumtemperatur eine Reaktion unterbleibt. Polydispersität und Molekulargewicht des Polylactons lassen sich durch Wahl des Initiators und der Reaktionsbedingungen einstellen.
Stand der Technik
Die Polymerisation von Lactonen erfolgt in der Regel mittels einer anionischen ringöffnenden Polymerisation. Als Initiatoren werden dazu Basen Bzw. Lewis-Basen verwendet. Geeignet sind so zum Beispiel Metallalkyle, Amine, Phosphine oder Alkoxide. Insbesondere werden für die anionische ringöffnende Polymeristion (ROP) von Lactonen Alkoholate verwendet.
Alternativ ist auch eine kationische ringöffnende Polymerisation geeignet. Diese kann mit Protonensäuren, Lewis-Säuren oder auch Alkylierungsmitteln initiiert werden. Insgesamt neigt die kationische Polymerisation jedoch zu Nebenreaktionen, wie z.B Umesterungen oder Zyklisierungen. Damit ist das erreichbare Molekulargewicht gegenüber einer anionischen ROP deutlich reduziert. Weiterhin gibt es auch noch die Möglichkeit, Lactone mittels enzymkatalysierter ROP mit Lipasen herzustellen. Diese Reaktion erfolgt jedoch spontan und lässt sich nach Zugabe des Initiators nur schwierig stoppen.
Großtechnisch bedeutend ist dagegen die metallkatalysierte Koordinations-Insertions- Polymerisation. Hierzu werden in Substanz Zinn-, Aluminium- oder Titanverbindungen eingesetzt.
Alle diese Methoden haben jedoch gemeinsam, dass die Polymerisation bereits bei geringen Temperaturen, wie Raumtemperatur, beginnt. Damit sind Lactone gemäß Stand der Technik für besondere Anwendungen, wie insbesondere zur Herstellung von Composite-Materialien nur sehr schlecht geeignet. Hierfür würde eine temperaturabhängige Latenz des Initiator- bzw. Initiatorsystems benötigt.
N-Heterocyclische Carbene (NHC) sind schon lange als Co-initiatoren zu den Silylinitiatoren in einer Group Transfer Polymerization (GTP) bekannt (vgl. Raynaud et al.,
Angew.Chem.Int.Ed., 2008, 47, S.5390, bzw. Schölten et al.,Macromolecules, 2008, 41 , S.7399). Genauso sind N-heterocyclische Carbene als Initiatoren in einer Step-Growth Polymerization von Terephthalaldehyd bekannt (vgl. Pionaud et al., Macromolecules, 2009, 42, S.4932). Zhang et al. (Angew.Chem.Int.Ed., 2010, 49, S.10158) offenbart NHC auch als Lewis-Base in Kombination mit Lewis-Säuren, wie z.B. NHC'AI(C6F5)3 oder NHC«BF3. Diese Kombination ist als Initiator für MMA geeignet. In Zhang et al. (Angew.Chem., 2012, 124, S.2515) wird 1 ,3-di-tert-Butylimidazolin-2-yliden auch allein als Initiator zur Polymerisation von MMA oder von Furfurylmethacrylat offenbart. Dabei wurde jedoch festgestellt, dass andere NHC keine initiierende Wirkung für MMA, sondern nur für die cyclischen Monomere wie a-Methylen-Y-butyrolacton (MBL) oder γ-Methyl-a-methylen-Y-butyrolacton (MMBL) haben. Zudem sind die hier eingesetzten Carbene an sich sehr reaktiv, so dass zum einen der Umgang damit schwierig ist und zum anderen die Polymerisation schnell und relativ schwer kontrollierbar gestartet wird.
Kamber et al. (Macromolecules 2009, 42, S.1634-1639) beschreiben substituierte Imidazole als N-heterocyclische Carbene (NHC) zur Initiierung einer ROP von ε-Caprolacton. Die Polymerisation findet dabei mit hoher Aktivität bereits bei Raumtemperatur statt. Nyce et al. (J.Am.Chem.Soc, 2003, 125, S.3046-3056) beschreibt dazu die in-situ Carben-Bildung aus einem Imidazol-Halogenid mit einem Alkoholat. Auch hier erfolgt die Polymerisation spontan bei Raumtemperatur mit einer sehr hohen Geschwindigkeit. Shion et al. (Macromolecules, 201 1 , 44, S.2773-2779) beschreiben die gleiche Methode mit Imidazol-Ylidenen. Diese Zwitterionen führen - gleichfalls bei Raumtemperatur - zu Polymeren mit deutlich höheren Molekulargewichten.
Aufgabe
Aufgabe der vorliegenden Erfindung vor dem Hintergrund des diskutierten Standes der Technik war es, neue latente Initiatoren zur Polymerisation von cyclischen Estern, insbesondere Lactonen zur Verfügung zu stellen. Die Polymerisation soll dabei einerseits kontrolliert gestartet werden können und gleichzeitig nach der erfolgten Initiierung schnell und einfach durchführbar sein.
Darüber hinaus war es Aufgabe der vorliegenden Erfindung, eine Verbindung als latenten Initiator zur Verfügung zu stellen, die in Gegenwart von Monomeren bei Temperaturen von bis zu 40 °C für mindestens 8 h stabil ist, d.h. maximal zu einem 5%igen Monomerumsatz führen, und gleichzeitig nach der Aktivierung zu einem mindestens 90%igen Umsatz der Monomere zu Polymeren führen.
Darüber hinaus sollen die als latente Initiatoren eingesetzten Verbindungen an sich lagerstabil und leicht, sowie sicher handelbar sein.
Darüber hinaus soll eine Mischung aus den Initiatoren und Lactonen derart lagerstabil sein, dass ohne Probleme eine Gewebe oder Gestricke damit getränkt werden kann und danach durch Aktivierung der Polymerisation aus den getränkten Geweben oder Gestricken ein Composite-Material herstellbar ist.
Weitere nicht explizit genannte Aufgaben können sich aus der Beschreibung, den Beispielen sowie den Ansprüchen ergeben, auch ohne an dieser Stelle explizit aufgeführt zu sein.
Lösung
Gelöst werden die Aufgaben durch ein neuartiges Verfahren zur Initiierung einer
Polymerisation von Lactonen. Bei diesem Verfahren wird die Monomermischung oder Momomerlösung mit einem geschützten N-heterozyklischen Carben versetzt und die Polymerisation durch die Erhöhung der Temperatur auf eine Starttemperatur, die mindestens 40 °C, bevorzugt mindestens 50 °C beträgt, gestartet. Besonders bevorzugt wird die
Polymerisation bei einer Temperatur zwischen 50 °C und 100 °C gestartet. Die
erfindungsgemäßen Initiatoren zeichnen sich insbesondere dadurch aus, dass diese bei einer tieferen Temperatur, insbesondere bei Raumtemperatur keine bzw. kaum eine Aktivität zeigen und somit eine Mischung aus den Initiatoren und den Lactonen lagerstabil ist.„Kaum eine Aktivität" meint in diesem Zusammenhang, dass es in einer Mischung aus den Lactonen und dem Initiator über einen Zeitraum von 20 h bei Raumtemperatur zu einem maximal 5%igen Umsatz der Monomere kommt.
Die Formulierung Monomermischung umfasst dabei insbesondere auch Mischungen, die nur eine Art von Lactonen, wie z.B. ε-Carpolacton enthalten.
Bevorzugt wird zusätzlich zu den N-heterozyklischen Carbenen zusätzlich ein Alkohol, insbesondere ein Alkohol mit sehr acidem Wasserstoffatom zugegeben. Besonders bevorzugte Alkohole sind dabei Phenole oder Benzylalkohole. Wenn solche Alkohole zugegeben werden, werden diese besonders bevorzugt in einem Stoffmengenverhältnis zu den N-heterozyklischen Carbenen zwischen 0,1 zu 1 und 10 zu 1 zugegeben.
Somit lassen sich solche Mischungen insbesondere sehr gut zur Herstellung von
Composites verwenden. Dazu werden z.B. faserförmige Träger, beispielsweise in Form von vorgeformten Gelegen oder Gestricken mit der Mischung getränkt und anschließend auf die Initiierungstemperatur erwärmt. Die genaue Initiierungstemperatur hängt dabei von dem jeweiligen Initiator, d.h. von dem Carben und der verwendeten Schutzgruppe ab und ist im Einzelfall einfach für einen Fachmann zu ermitteln.
Die faserförmigen Träger können beispielsweise aus Glas, Kohlenstoff, Kunststoffen, wie Polyamid (Aramid) oder Polyester, Naturfasern oder mineralischen Fasermaterialien wie Basaltfasern oder keramische Fasern bestehen. Die Fasern bilden dabei bevorzugt ein textiles Flächengebilde aus Vlies, Maschenware, Gewirke oder Gestricke, nicht maschige Gebinde wie Gewebe, Gelege oder Geflechte. Die Fasern können aber auch schlicht als Langfaser- oder Kurzfasermaterial vorliegen.
Dieses Verfahren ist geeignet zur Polymerisation von Lactonen. Auch Mischungen verschiedener Lactone können mit dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren polymerisiert werden. Insbesondere ist das erfindungegmäße Verfahren zur Polymerisation von γ-Butyrolacton, δ- Valerolacton und/oder ε-Caprolacton geeignet. Insbesondere handelt es sich bei dem geschützten N-heterozyklischen Carben um eine Verbindung mit einer der beiden Formeln (I) oder (II)
Dabei steht R-ι für einen CH2-, C2H4-, C3H6- oder einen entsprechenden substituierten Rest. R2 und R3 können identisch oder jeweils unterschiedlich zueinander sein. Bevorzugt handelt es sich bei R2 bzw. bei R3 um einen cyclischen, verzweigten oder linearen, optional
Heteroatome aufweisenden Alkylrest mit 1 bis 20 Kohlenstoffatomen oder einen
substituierten oder nicht substituierten aromatischen Rest. R4 und R5 können identisch oder jeweils unterschiedlich zueinander sein. Bevorzugt handelt es sich bei R4 bzw. bei R5 um Wasserstoff, einen cyclischen, verzweigten oder linearen, optional Heteroatome
aufweisenden Alkylrest mit 1 bis 20 Kohlenstoffatomen oder einen substituierten oder nicht substituierten aromatischen Rest. X steht für C02, CS2, Zn, Bi, Sn oder Mg, wobei die aufgeführten Metalle stellvertretend für unterschiedliche Metallverbindungen stehen.
Insbesondere handelt es sich bei den metallischen Schutzgruppen um ZnX'2, BiX'3, SnX'2 oder MgX'2, wobei X' für ein Halogen oder ein Pseudohalogen, bevorzugt für Cl steht.
Weiterhin können die metallischen Schutzgruppen weitere, koordinierte Moleküle, wie z.B. ein Lösungsmittelmolekül wie insbesondere Tetrahydrofuran (thf) aufweisen.
Carbene mit einer dieser Gruppe X sind lagerstabil und einfach sowie sicher zu verwenden. Bevorzugt sind Carboxylate (C02-Schutzgruppe) oder Dithionate (CS2-Schutzgruppe), da mit diesen Verbindungen die Polymerisation metallfrei erfolgen kann. Beispiele für das N-heterocyclische Grundgerüst der erfindungsgemäß verwendeten
Initiatoren sind insbesondere Imidazol, Imidazolin, Tetrahydropyrimidin und Diazepin.
Alternativ kann es sich bei dem geschützten N-heterozyklischen Carben um eine Verbindung mit einer der beiden Formeln (II I) oder (IV)
handeln.
Dabei steht R-ι wiederum für eine CH2-, C2H4-, C3H6- oder einen entsprechenden
substituierten Rest. R2 und R3 können gleichfalls wieder identisch oder jeweils
unterschiedlich zueinander sein. Bevorzugt handelt es sich auch in diesen Fällen um einen cyclischen, verzweigten oder linearen, optional Heteroatome aufweisenden Alkylrest mit 1 bis 20 Kohlenstoffatomen oder einen substituierten oder nicht substituierten aromatischen Rest. R4 und R5 können identisch oder jeweils unterschiedlich zueinander sein. Bevorzugt handelt es sich bei R4 bzw. bei R5 um Wasserstoff, einen cyclischen, verzweigten oder linearen, optional Heteroatome aufweisenden Alkylrest mit 1 bis 20 Kohlenstoffatomen oder einen substituierten oder nicht substituierten aromatischen Rest. Bei der Schutzgruppe Y dagegen kann es sich um einen CF3-, C6F4-, C6F5-, CCI3- oder OR6,-Rest, mit R6 als einen Alkylrest mit 1 bis 10 Kohlenstoffatomen, handeln. Analog zu den Verbindungen (I) und (I I) kann es sich auch bei den Verbindungen (II I) und (IV) um N-heterozyklische Carbene mit einer metallischen Schutzgruppe aus Zn, Bi, Sn oder Mg handeln. Dabei stehen auch hier die aufgeführten Metalle stellvertretend für unterschiedliche Metallverbindungen.
Insbesondere handelt es sich bei den metallischen Schutzgruppen um ZnX'2, BiX'3, SnX'2 oder MgX'2, wobei X' für ein Halogen oder ein Pseudohalogen, bevorzugt für Cl steht.
Weiterhin können die metallischen Schutzgruppen weitere, koordinierte Moleküle, wie z.B. ein Lösungsmittelmolekül wie insbesondere Tetrahydrofuran (thf) aufweisen.
Nachfolgend werden einige C02-geschützte N-heterozyklischen Carbene aufgezeigt, ohne, dass diese Auflistung in irgendeiner Form einschränkend zu verstehen ist. Dabei ist vor allem auch die Schutzgruppe durch eine der anderen aufgezählten Schutzgruppen ersetzbar. Beispiele für N-heterozyklischen Carbene der Formel (I) mit einem Sechsfring - d.h. bei Ri handelt es sich um eine (CH2)2-Gruppe - sind 1 ,3-Dimethyl- tetrahydropyrimidinium-2-carboxylat (1 ), 1 ,3-Diisopropyltetrahydropyrimidinium-2-carboxylat (2), 1 ,3-Bis-(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)tetrahydropyrimidinium-2-carboxylat (3),1 ,3-Bis-(2,6-
diisopropylphenyl)tetrahydropyrimidinium-2-carboxylat (4), 1 ,3- Biscyclohexyltetrahydropyrimidinium-2-carboxylat (12) 1 ,3-Bis(4- heptyl)tetrahydropyrimidinium-2-carboxylat (12) und 1 ,3-Bis-(2,4- dimethoxyphenyl)tetrahydropyrimidinium-2-carboxylat (15):
Dabei steht Mes für eine 2,4,6-Trimethylphenyl-Gruppe und Dipp für eine 2,6- Diisopropylphenyl-Gruppe.
Beispiele für Formel (I) mit einem Siebenring, d.h. bei Ri handelt es sich um eine (CH2)3- Gruppe, sind 1 ,3-Bis-(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)tetrahydro-[1 ,3]-diazepinium-2-carboxylat (10) und 1 ,3-Bis-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)tetrahydro-[1 ,3]-diazepinium-2-carboxylat (1 1 ):
Beispiele für Verbindungen nach Formel (II) sind 1 ,3-Diisopropylimidazolium-2-carboxylat (5), 1 ,3-Ditertbutylimidazolium-2-carboxylat (6), 1 ,3-Dicyclohexylimidazolium-2-carboxylat (7), 1 ,3-Bis-(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)imidazolium-2-carboxylat (8) und 1 ,3-Adamantyl- imidazolium-2-carboxylat (9):
Dabei steht Cy für eine Cyclohexyl-Gruppe und Ad für eine Adamantyl-Gruppe.
Beispiele für Initiatoren der Formel (I) mit R-ι gleich CH2 ist 1 ,3-Ditertbutyl-imidazolinium-2- carboxylat (14) und 1 ,3-Di-(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)-imidazolinium-2-carboxylat (14a):
Beispiele für metallgeschützte N-heterocyclische Carbene sind die Verbindungen (16) bis (19):

Metallgeschützte N-heterocyclische Carbene können auch in einer dimeren Form vorliegen. Ein Beispiel dazu ist die Verbindung (20):
Die Herstellung dieser Verbindungen ist allgemein literaturbekannt. Insbesondere die Cyclisierung von Amidinen, welche aus Aminen und Orthoestern leicht verfügbar sind, ermöglicht einen einfachen Zugang zu unterschiedlichen Ringgrößen.
Bevorzugt erfolgt darauf die Deprotonierung mit einer starken, sterisch gehinderten Base, wie z.B. Kaliumhexamethyldisilizan (KHMDS) in einem Lösungsmittel wie z.B. THF. Das Lösungsmittel wird entfernt und der Rückstand z. Bsp. mit Et20 aufgeschlämmt. Nach Filtration wird C02 oder eine andere Schutzgruppe wie beispielsweise SnCI2 zugegeben. Eine weitere anschließende Filtration in z.B. Diethylether und Trocknung im Vakuum erlaubt die Synthese sauberer Zielverbindungen, so dass oft nicht einmal mehr umkristallisiert werden muss. Zusammen mit der einfachen Bildung von Amidinen und ihrer Zyklisierung mit Dihalogeniden liegt ein attraktiver Syntheseweg mit einer minimalen Stufenanzahl bereit, bei dem keine Chromatographien oder andere Aufreinigungen nötig sind. Diese beiden
Reaktionen können zum Beispiel auch in Luftatmosphäre erfolgen. Lediglich die Bildung des freien Carbens durch Umsetzung mit der starken Base muss unter Luftausschluss erfolgen. Die Synthese kann beispielsweise in Iglesias et al., Organometallics 2008, 27, 3279-3289 nachgelesen werden. Die Synthese entsprechender CS2-Komplexe beispielsweise in Delaude, Eur. J.lnorg.Chem. 2009, 1681 -1699 oder in Delaude et al. , Eur. J.lnorg.Chem. 2009, 1882-1891 nachgelesen werden. Überraschend wurde gefunden, dass die Polymerisation bei verhältnismäßig geringen
Temperaturen von z.B. 80°C je nach Auswahl des geschützten N-heterozyklischen Carbens sehr schnell erfolgen kann. So ist bei 80 °C ein 50%iger Umsatz der Monomere bereits bei t50 < 50 min möglich. Gleichzeitig sind die Polymerisationslösungen oder auch eine reine Monomermischung, das N-heterozyklischen Carben enthaltend, derart kombinierbar, dass
diese bei Raumtemperatur für mehrere Stunden zu keiner Polymerisation führen. Ein großer Vorteil der vorliegenden Erfindung ist somit die Latenz der Polymerisation.
Dieser Zusammenhang bringt große Vorteile in großtechnischen Verfahren. So können Reaktionsmischungen hergestellt werden und kontrolliert zu einem beliebigen Zeitpunkt durch eine simple Temperaturerhöhung gestartet werden. Damit können die Mischungen zum Beispiel außerhalb eines Reaktionsgefäßes gemischt werden und nur für die reine Polymerisation in einen Reaktionskessel überführt werden. Darüber hinaus kann auf Basis eines solchen Initiatorsystems eine kontinuierliche Polymerisation, unter kontinuierlicher Zugabe der Reaktionsmischung in einen Rohr- oder Schlaufenreaktor bzw. einen Extruder oder Kneter erfolgen.
Weiterhin kann die Polymerisation so optimiert werden, dass ein nahezu quantitativer Umsatz der Monomere erfolgt. Dies ist sowohl in Lösungs- als auch in einer
Substanzpolymerisation möglich.
Darüber hinaus können mit dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren die Molekulargewichte der Polymere in einem breiten Spektrum eingestellt werden. So sind insbesondere Polymere mit einem mittels einer GPC-Messung gegen einen Polystyrol-Standard bestimmten
gewichtsmittleren Molekulargewicht zwischen 5000 und 50 000 g/mol herstellbar.
Weiterhin sind auch neue geschützte N-heterozyklische Carbene Bestandteil der
vorliegenden Erfindung. So stellen die oben aufgeführten Verbindungen (17), (18) und (20) neue Verbindungen dar. Insbesondere die Verbindungen (17) und (18) sind dabei besonders aktive Initiatoren für die Polymerisation von Lactonen. Dabei sind die neuen Verbindungen (17) und (18) nicht auf Verbindungen mit einem am Metall koordinierten
Lösungsmittelmolekül, wie THF beschränkt. Somit sind insbesondere die Verbindungen (17') und (18') gleichfalls Teil der vorliegenden Erfindung:

Beispiele
Allgemeine Polymerisationsvorschrift
Zur Polymerisation wurden die Monomere, der Initiator, ggf. Benzylalkohol und ggf. ein Lösungsmittel, z.B. DMSO, DMF oder Toluol, in einer Glove-Box unter Argon-Atmosphäre zusammen abgewogen und im Falle einer Substanzpolymerisation in ein
Überdruckglasgefäß überführt. Im Falle einer Lösungspolymerisation wurde getrocknetes DMSO als Lösungsmittel und als Reaktionsgefäß ein Schlenkkolben verwendet. Die genauen Mengen und die Art der verwendeten Initiatoren und ggf. weiterer Komponenten können den Tabellen 1 bzw. 2 entnommen werden. Das Überdruckglasgefäß bzw. der Schlenkkolben wurde in einem auf die gewünschte Temperatur vorgeizten Ölbad für die Zeit der Polymerisation erwärmt. Im Falle einer Substanzpolymerisation wurden die entstandenen Polymermassen anschließend in
Chloroform gelöst. Ausfällung erfolgte durch Tropfen dieser Lösung bzw. des Produktes einer Lösungspolymerisation in Pentan. Nach Zentrifugieren wurde die überstehende Lösung abgetrennt und das Polymer im Vakuum getrocknet. Die angegebenen Ausbeuten sind die isolierten Mengen an Polymer nach der Trocknung.
In Tabelle 1 finden sich erste Ergebnisse einer Substanzpolymerisation von ε-Caprolacton (Monomer).

Aus den Beispielen geht hervor, dass der Umsatz, die Starttemperatur und das
Molekulargewicht durch die Wahl der Initiatoren und die Polymerisationstemperatur eingestellt werden können. Zudem ist ersichtlich, dass ein breites Molekulargewichts- Spektrum mit zum Teil sehr engen Molekulargewichtsverteilungen (PDI) erzielbar ist.
Weiterhin ist ersichtlich, dass selbst quantitative Umsätze in sehr kurzen
Polymerisationszeiten erreicht werden können.
In Tabelle 2 finden sich Vergleichsbeispiele (VB). Mit VB1 und VB2 wird gezeigt, dass das gleiche System ohne Zugabe des erfinderischen Initiators keine Polymerisationsaktivität
zeigt. Mit VB3 bis VB5 wird gezeigt, dass bei Raumtemperatur erfindungsgemäß keine bis keine nennenswerte Polymerisation stattfindet. Die Systeme sind somit latent.
Angemerkt sei, dass die Ausbeuten kleiner 10% in VB3 bis VB6, sowie im
erfindungsgemäßen Beispiel 18 mittels 1H-NMR bestimmt wurden. Tabelle 2: Vergleichsbeispiele

Claims
1 . Verfahren zur Initiierung einer Polymerisation von Lactonen, dadurch
gekennzeichnet, dass die Monomermischung oder Momomerlösung mit einem geschützten N-heterozyklischen Carben versetzt wird und die Polymerisation durch die Erhöhung der Temperatur auf eine Starttemperatur, die mindestens 40 °C beträgt, gestartet wird.
2. Verfahren gemäß Anspruch 1 , dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass es sich bei dem Lacton um γ-Butyrolacton, δ-Valerolacton oder ε-Carpolacton handelt.
3. Verfahren gemäß Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass es sich bei dem geschützten N-heterozyklischen Carben um eine Verbindung mit einer der beiden Formeln (I) oder (II)
handelt, wobei es sich bei
R-i um einen CH2-, C2H4-, C3H6- oder einen entsprechenden substituierten Rest handelt, bei R2 und R3 identisch oder jeweils unterschiedlich zueinander um einen cyclischen, verzweigten oder linearen, optional Heteroatome aufweisenden Alkylrest mit 1 bis 20 Kohlenstoffatomen oder einen substituierten oder nicht substituierten aromatischen Rest, bei R4 und R5 identisch oder jeweils unterschiedlich zueinander um Wasserstoff, einen cyclischen, verzweigten oder linearen, optional Heteroatome aufweisenden Alkylrest mit 1 bis 20 Kohlenstoffatomen oder einen substituierten oder nicht substituierten aromatischen Rest und bei X um C02, CS2, ZnX'2, BiX'3, SnX'2 oder MgX'2, wobei X' für ein Halogen oder ein Pseudohalogen steht, handelt.
4. Verfahren gemäß Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass es sich bei dem geschützten N-heterozyklischen Carben um eine Verbindung mit einer der beiden Formeln (III) oder (IV)
handelt, wobei es sich bei
R-i um einen CH2-, C2H4-, C3H6- oder einen entsprechenden substituierten Rest handelt, bei R2 und R3 identisch oder jeweils unterschiedlich zueinander um einen cyclischen, verzweigten oder linearen, optional Heteroatome aufweisenden Alkylrest mit 1 bis 20 Kohlenstoffatomen oder einen substituierten oder nicht substituierten aromatischen Rest, bei R4 und R5 identisch oder jeweils unterschiedlich zueinander um Wasserstoff, einen cyclischen, verzweigten oder linearen, optional Heteroatome aufweisenden Alkylrest mit 1 bis 20 Kohlenstoffatomen oder einen substituierten oder nicht substituierten aromatischen Rest und bei Y um einen CF3-, C6F4-, C6F5-, CCI3-, OR6,-Rest, mit R6 als einen Alkylrest mit 1 bis 10 Kohlenstoffatomen, ZnX'2, BiX'3, SnX'2 oder MgX'2, wobei X' für ein Halogen oder ein Pseudohalogen steht, handelt.
5. Verfahren gemäß mindestens einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Monomermischung oder Monomerlösung vor der Polymerisation mit einem Alkohol versetzt wird.
6. Verfahren gemäß Anspruch 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass es sich bei dem
Alkohol um ein Phenol oder einen Benzylalkohol handelt, und dass dieser in einem Stoffmengenverhältnis zu den N-heterozyklischen Carbenen zwischen 0,1 zu 1 und 10 zu 1 zugegeben wird.
7. Verfahren gemäß mindestens einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 6, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das aus dem Verfahren erhaltene Polymer in einer GPC-Messung gegen einen Polystyrol-Standard ein gewichtsmittleres Molekulargewicht zwischen 5000 und 50 000 g/mol aufweist.
8. Verfahren gemäß mindestens einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 7, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Starttemperatur zwischen 50 °C und 100 °C liegt.
9. Verfahren gemäß mindestens einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 8, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass vor der Polymerisation ein faserförmiges Trägermaterial mit einer
Zusammensetzung enthaltend Lactone und geschützte N-heterozyklische Carbene getränkt wird und anschließend die Temperatur auf die Starttemperatur erhöht wird.
10. Geschütztes N-heterozyklisches Carben, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass es sich bei dem N-heterozyklischen Carben um
M§C12 oder um ZnC12 handelt, wobei an das Metall ein zusätzlicher Ligand, insbesondere ein Lösungsmittelmolekül koordiniert sein kann.
