Abstract
Die Erfindung betrifft Rutil-Titandioxid-Pigmentpartikel, die in der Lage sind, in hohem Maße Infrarotstrahlung zu reflektieren als auch pigmentierende Eigenschaften aufweisen, sowie ein Verfahren zu ihrer Herstellung. Die Partikel weisen eine mittlere Partikelgröße von 0,4 bis 1,0 μm auf und sind mit Zink und Kalium dotiert, nicht jedoch mit Aluminium. Die Partikel weisen eine gedrungene Partikelform auf mit einem bevorzugten Seitenverhältnis von 1,5:1. Die Partikel werden bevorzugt nach dem bekannten Sulfatverfahren zur Herstellung von Titandioxid hergestellt und nach der Calcinierung optional anorganisch und/oder organisch nachbehandelt. Die erfindungsgemäßen Rutil-Titandioxidpartikel sind geeignet zur Herstellung von wärmeisolierenden Farben, Lacken oder Kunststoffen sowie beispielsweise von Putzen oder Pflastersteinen.

Herstellung
Gebiet der Erfindung
Die Erfindung betrifft Rutil-Titandioxid-Pigmentpartikel, die in der Lage sind, sowohl in hohem Maße Infrarotstrahlung zu reflektieren als auch pigmentierende Eigenschaften aufweisen sowie ein Verfahren zu ihrer Herstellung. Die Titandioxidpartikel sind geeignet zur
Herstellung von wärmeisolierenden Farben, Lacken oder Kunststoffen sowie beispielsweise Putzen oder Pflastersteinen.
Technologischer Hintergrund der Erfindung
Als Infrarotstrahlung wird üblicherweise die elektromagnetische Strahlung bezeichnet, die sich im Wellenlängenbereich oberhalb des sichtbaren Lichts anschließt, d.h. von 780 nm bis etwa 1 mm. Das die Erdoberfläche erreichende Sonnenlicht liegt im wesentlichen im
Wellenlängenbereich von 300 bis 2500 nm und setzt sich zu etwa 3% aus Ultraviolett- Strahlung (UV), zu etwa 53% aus sichtbarem Licht und zu etwa 44% aus Infrarotstrahlung (IR) zusammen.
Nach der Mie-Theorie wird elektromagnetische Strahlung optimal von Partikeln reflektiert, deren Partikelgröße der halben Wellenlänge der elektromagnetischen Strahlung entspricht. Pigmentäre Titandioxidpartikel weisen dementsprechend eine Partikelgrößenverteilung von etwa 0,2 bis 0,4 μιη entsprechend der halben Wellenlänge des sichtbaren Lichts (380 bis 780 nm) auf. Zur Reflektion von IR-Strahlung im Wellenlängenbereich von 780 nm bis 2500 nm sind Partikel im Größenbereich von etwa 0,4 bis 1 ,3 μιη geeignet. EP 1 580 166 A1 offenbart Titandioxidpartikel mit primären Partikelgrößen von 0,5 bis 2,0 μιτι, die selektiv IR-Strahlung reflektieren und die leichte Verteilbarkeit von hiermit hergestellten kosmetischen Zusammensetzungen begünstigen. Die Partikel werden hergestellt durch Vermischung von hydratisiertem Titanoxid mit einer Aluminiumverbindung, einer Zinkverbindung und einer Kaliumverbindung sowie anschließender Calcinierung. Die Partikel gemäß EP 1 580 166 A1 sind stäbchenförmig.
US 5,811 ,180 A offenbart Pigmente, die Hitzestrahlung von Feuer reflektieren sollen. Die
Partikelgröße liegt bei über 1 und die Partikel können aus Flockulaten kleinerer
Primärpartikel bestehen.
US 5,898,180 A offenbart eine IR-reflektierende Emailzusammensetzung für Kochgeräte, die Ti02-Partikel, bevorzugt Rutil, enthält. Die Rutilpartikel werden durch Temperung der Emailzusammensetzung rekristallisiert und damit verstärkt IR-reflektierend.
WO 2009/136141 A1 offenbart eine farbige IR-reflektierende Zusammensetzung, die Ti02- Partikel mit einer Kristallgröße von mehr als 0,4 μιη, welche eine anorganische Beschichtung aufweisen, enthält.
US 6,113,875 A offenbart ein farbstabiles Anatas-Titandioxidpigment mit einer Partikelgröße von 0,1 bis 1 μιη, welches mit Aluminium und/oder Zink dotiert ist.
Aufgabenstellung und Kurzbeschreibung der Erfindung
Die Aufgabe der vorliegenden Erfindung besteht in der Bereitstellung eines alternativen, im nahen Infrarotbereich reflektierenden Pigments auf Basis Titandioxid, welches gegenüber üblichen Titandioxidpigmenten keine signifikante Einbuße an Helligkeit aufweist.
Die Aufgabe wird gelöst durch ein Infrarot-reflektierendes Pigment auf Basis Titandioxid enthaltend Rutil-Titandioxidpartikel charakterisiert durch folgende Merkmale:
- die Partikelgröße d50 liegt im Bereich von 0,4 bis 1 μιτι,
- die Titandioxidpartikel sind dotiert mit Zink und Kalium, und sie sind nicht dotiert mit
Aluminium.
Die Aufgabe wird desweiteren gelöst durch ein Verfahren zur Herstellung eines Infrarotreflektierenden Pigments auf Basis Titandioxid, wobei
ein Eisen-Titan-haltiger Rohstoff mit Schwefelsäure aufgeschlossen wird und Eisensulfat und Titanylsulfat entsteht,
das Eisensulfat abgetrennt und das Titanylsulfat hydrolysiert wird,
das entstandene Titanoxidhydrat einem Bleichschritt unterzogen wird,
das gebleichte Titanoxidhydrat mit Rutilkeimen, einer Zinkverbindung und einer
Kaliumverbindung, jedoch nicht mit einer Aluminiumverbindung vermischt und calciniert wird und Rutil-Titandioxidpartikel mit einer Partikelgröße d50 von 0,4 bis 1 μηι entstehen.
Weitere vorteilhafte Ausformungen der Erfindung sind in den Unteransprüchen angegeben.
Beschreibung der Erfindung
Alle im Folgenden offenbarten Angaben bezüglich Größe in pm usw., Konzentration in Gew.-% oder Vol. -%, pH-Wert usw. sind so zu verstehen, dass alle Werte, die im Bereich der dem Fachmann bekannten jeweiligen Messgenauigkeit liegen, mit umfasst sind.
Unter Partikelgröße werden im Folgenden die Messergebnisse verstanden, die bei der Partikelgrößenbestimmung eines Pulvers, hier der Vermessung von Titandioxidpartikeln, mit einer Scheibenzentrifuge (z.B. Disc Centrifuge DC 20000 der Fa. CPS) erhalten werden.
Die Erfindung geht von der Erkenntnis aus, dass Titandioxidpartikel mit mittlerer
Partikelgröße d50 im Bereich von 0,4 bis 1 ,3 μιτι IR-Strahlung reflektieren. Titandioxid kann bekanntermaßen nach verschiedenen Verfahren hergestellt werden. Die weltweit
kommerziell am häufigsten eingesetzten Verfahren sind der sogenannte Sulfatprozess und der sogenannte Chloridprozess.
Dem Fachmann sind verschiedene Verfahrensvarianten bekannt, um Ti02-Partikel mit gegenüber üblichem Ti02-Pigment gröberen Partikelgrößen herzustellen. WO 2009/136141 A1 gibt eine allgemeine Zusammenstellung solcher Verfahrensvarianten, die insbesondere den Sulfatprozess betreffen, wie beispielsweise die Erhöhung der Calcinierungstemperatur oder Calcinierungsdauer, die Zugabe von kristallwachstumsfördernden Additiven oder die Verringerung der Zugabe von Rutilkeimen. Es werden allerdings keine Angaben zu speziellen Additiven oder Mengen gemacht.
Die vorliegende Erfindung zeigt einen einfachen und wirtschaftlichen Weg auf, um Rutil- Titandioxidpartikel mit einer mittleren Partikelgröße d50 von 0,4 bis 1 pm, die mit Zink und Kalium dotiert sind, herzustellen. Die Partikel sind nicht mit Aluminium dotiert. Die Partikel weisen eine gedrungene Partikelform auf.
Die Partikel enthalten bevorzugt 0,2 bis 0,25 Gew.-% Zink gerechnet als ZnO und 0,18 bis 0,26 Gew.-% Kalium gerechnet als K20 und jeweils bezogen auf Ti02.
In einer besonderen Ausführungsform weisen die Partikel ein Seitenverhältnis von maximal 1 ,5:1 auf. Überraschenderweise hat sich gezeigt, dass die erfindungsgemäße Kombination von ZnO und K20 und in Abwesenheit von Al203 als Calcinierungsadditive zu einer mittleren
Partikelgröße d50 von 0,4 bis 1 μιτι und einer gedrungenen Partikelform führt.
Im Rahmen der Erfindung wird mit„Partikelgröße d50" der Median einer massebezogenen Partikelgrößenverteilung bezeichnet, welche mit einer Röntgen-Scheibenzentrifuge (z.B. Disc Centrifuge DC 20000 der Fa. CPS) bestimmt wurde.
Gegenüber den stäbchenförmigen Partikeln, die bei dem Verfahren gemäß EP 1 580 166 A1 entstehen, sind gedrungene, insbesondere kugelförmige Partikel von Vorteil, um eine optimale Reflektion im nahen IR-Bereich zu erreichen. Gedrungene Partikel lassen sich zudem besser in der Anwendermatrix dispergieren als stäbchenförmige Partikel.
Das erfindungsgemäße IR-reflektierende Rutil-Titandioxid wird durch Calcinierung von Titanoxidhydrat hergestellt, welchem Rutilkeime, eine Zinkverbindung und eine
Kaliumverbindung, jedoch keine Aluminiumverbindung zugegeben wurden. Das Titanoxidhydrat wird vorzugsweise nach dem Sulfatprozess hergestellt. Unter
Titanoxidhydrat wird erfindungsgemäß auch Titanhydrat, Metatitansäure, Titanhydroxid, wasserhaltiges Titanoxid oder Titanoxohydrat verstanden. Bei dem Sulfatprozess zur Herstellung von Titandioxid wird der Eisen-Titan-haltige Rohstoff, insbesondere llmenit, mit Schwefelsäure aufgeschlossen, wobei Eisensulfat und Titanylsulfat entsteht. Das Eisensulfat wird üblicherweise auskristallisiert und abgetrennt. Anschließend wird das Titanylsulfat hydrolisiert und das entstandene Titanoxidhydrat in einem Bleichschritt weitgehend von farbgebenden Übergangsmetallen befreit. Nachfolgend wird das gebleichte Titanoxidhydrat abgetrennt, filtriert und gewaschen. Dem Titanoxidhydrat werden anschließend Rutilkeime, mindestens eine Zinkverbindung und mindestens eine Kaliumverbindung, jedoch keine Aluminiumverbindung zugegeben. Anschließend wird das Titanoxidhydrat bei etwa 950 bis 1050 °C calciniert, wobei Rutil-Titandioxidpartikel entstehen. Dem Fachmann sind die einzelnen Schritte des Sulfatprozesses zur Herstellung von Titandioxid bekannt,
beispielsweise aus: G. Buxbaum, ed.,„Industrial Inorganic Pigments", VCH
Verlagsgesellschaft mbH, 1993, S. 51 bis 55.
Die nach dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren hergestellten Rutil-Titandioxidpartikel weisen eine gedrungene Form auf. Die Partikelgröße d50 liegt im Bereich von 0,4 bis 1 μηπ.
Das Seitenverhältnis beträgt bevorzugt maximal 1 ,5:1.
Vorzugsweise werden 0,5 bis 1 ,0 Gew.-% Rutilkeime bezogen auf Ti02 zugegeben.
Zink wirkt bei der Herstellung von Ti02 als Kristallwachstumspromoter. Geeignete
Zinkverbindungen sind beispielsweise Zinksulfat, Zinkoxid oder Zinkhydroxid, bevorzugt ist
Zinkoxid. Die Verbindung kann als wässrige Lösung oder Suspension zugegeben werden. Es wird bevorzugt eine solche Menge zugegeben, dass die Rutil-Titandioxidpartikel 0,1 bis 0,8 Gew.-% Zink, bevorzugt 0,2 bis 0,4 Gew.-% Zink und insbesondere 0,2 bis 0,25 Gew.-% Zink gerechnet als ZnO und bezogen auf Ti02 enthalten.
Kalium wirkt bei der Herstellung von Ti02 als Versinterungsinhibitor. Geeignete
Kaliumverbindungen sind beispielsweise Kaliumsulfat oder Kaliumhydroxid, bevorzugt ist Kaliumhydroxid. Die Verbindung kann als wässrige Lösung oder Salz zugegeben werden. Es wird bevorzugt eine solche Menge zugegeben, dass die Rutil-Titandioxidpartikel 0,1 bis 0,4 Gew.-% Kalium, bevorzugt 0,18 bis 0,26 Gew.-% Kalium gerechnet als K20 und bezogen auf Ti02 enthalten.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Rutil-Titandioxidpartikel können nach der Calcinierung einem Mahlvorgang unterzogen werden, um Agglomerate bzw. Aggregate zu zerkleinern. Geeignet sind beispielsweise Pendelmühlen, Rührwerksmühlen, Hammermühlen oder
Dampfstrahlmühlen.
In einer besonderen Ausführung des Verfahrens werden die Rutil-Titandioxidpartikel anschließend anorganisch und/oder organisch oberflächenbehandelt.
Die anorganische Oberflächenbehandlung umfasst die üblichen Verfahren, die auch bei Titandioxidpigmenten angewendet werden. Beispielsweise können die erfindungsgemäßen Rutil-Titandioxidpartikel mit einer Si02-Schicht und anschließend mit einer Al203-Schicht überzogen werden. Insbesondere kann eine dichte oder eine lockere Si02-Schicht aufgebracht werden wie sie z.B. beschrieben sind in: H. Weber,„Kieselsäure als Bestandteil der Titandioxid-Pigmente", Kronos Information 6.1 (1978). Es ist bekannt, dass die
Beschichtung mit anorganischen Oxiden wie Si02, Zr02, Sn02, Al203 etc. die Photostabilität von Ti02-Partikeln erhöht und insbesondere eine äußere Al203-Schicht die Dispergierung der Partikel in der Anwendermatrix verbessert.
Im Anschluss an die anorganische Oberflächenbehandlung können die Partikel in einer Dampfstrahlmühle oder einem ähnlichen Micronizer deagglomeriert werden.
Bei der Oberflächenbehandlung der erfindungsgemäßen Rutil-Titandioxidpartikel ist im Vergleich zu der Oberflächenbehandlung von bekannten Ti02-Pigmentpartikeln zu berücksichtigen, dass die unbehandelten erfindungsgemäßen Partikel (Partikelgrößen d50 von 0,4 bis 1 pm) eine wesentlich geringere spezifische Oberfläche nach BET aufweisen (etwa 2 bis 6 m2/g) als die unbehandelten Pigmentpartikel (Partikelgröße d50 etwa 0,3 μητι, spezifische Oberfläche etwa 8 bis 10 m2/g). Bei gleicher Menge zugegebener Substanz bei
der Oberflächenbehandlung würde sich somit auf dem gröberen Partikel eine wesentlich dickere Beschichtung bilden.
Bei der organischen Nachbehandlung können die bei der Nachbehandlung von Ti02- Pigmentpartikeln üblicherweise verwendeten Verbindungen eingesetzt werden.
Beispielsweise sind folgende Verbindungen geeignet: (Poly-)Alkohole wie Trimethylolpropan (TMP), Siliconöle, Siloxane, Organophosphate, Amine, Stearate..
Die erfindungsgemäßen Infrarot-reflektierenden Rutil-Titandioxidpartikel können in Farben, Lacken und Kunststoffen sowie beispielsweise in Putzen oder Pflastersteinen eingesetzt werden, um Wärmestrahlung zu reflektieren.
Beispiele
Die Erfindung wird anhand der nachfolgenden Beispiele genauer erläutert, ohne dass damit eine Einschränkung der Erfindung verbunden ist.
Beispiel 1
Es wurde Titanoxidhydrat, das nach dem Sulfatverfahren zur Herstellung von Titandioxid hergestellt wurde, verwendet. Die gewaschene Titanoxidhydrat-Paste wurde in Wasser angeteigt (300 g/L Ti02) und mit 0,2 Gew.-% ZnO in Form von Zinkoxid, 0,22 Gew.-% K20 in Form von Kaliumhydroxid sowie mit 1 Gew.-% Rutilkeimen versetzt. Die Suspension wurde anschließend 16 Stunden bei 120°C getrocknet. Anschließend wurden 3 kg des
getrockneten Materials in einem Drehrohrofen 2 Stunden bei 920°C zu Ti02 (Rutil) calciniert und mit einer Spiralstrahlmühle gemahlen.
Das gemahlene Ti02 wurde mit Wasser angeteigt (350g/L) und in einer Sandmühle gemahlen. Die Suspension wurde anschließend auf 80 °C aufgeheizt und mit NaOH auf einen pH-Wert von 11 ,5 eingestellt. Danach wurde 3,0 Gew.-% Si02 in Form von
Kaliumwasserglas innerhalb von 30 Minuten zugesetzt. Nach 10 Minuten Retention wurde der pH-Wert durch Zugabe von HCl innerhalb von 150 Minuten auf einen pH-Wert von 4 abgesenkt. Nach 10 Minuten Rühren wurde 3,0 Gew.-% Al203 als Natriumaluminat zusammen mit HCl innerhalb von 30 Minuten so zugegeben, dass der pH-Wert während dieser Parallelzugabe bei etwa 4 konstant blieb.
Die Suspension wurde mit NaOH auf einen pH-Wert von 6,5 bis 7 eingestellt und das
Material anschließend wie in der Praxis üblich filtriert, gewaschen, getrocknet und mit einer Dampfstrahlmühle unter Zugabe von TMP (Trimethylolpropan) zerkleinert.
Die Partikelgröße d50 betrug 0,56 μιη und die spezifische Oberfläche nach BET 4 m2/g.
Beispiel 2
Wie Beispiel 1 , jedoch mit dem Unterschied, dass 0,4 Gew.-% ZnO zugesetzt wurde.
Die Partikelgröße d50 betrug 0,88 μπι und die spezifische Oberfläche nach BET 2 m2/g. Figur
1 zeigt eine Rasterelektronemikroskop(REM)-Aufnahme der Partikel. Vergleichsbeispiel
Gewaschene Titanoxidhydrat-Paste wie aus Beispiel 1 wurde angeteigt (300 g/L Ti02) und mit 0,4 Gew.-% ZnO in Form von Zinkoxid, 0,4 Gew.-% Al203 in Form von Aluminiumsulfat, 0,22 Gew.-% K20 in Form von Kaliumhydroxid und 1 Gew.-% Rutilkeimen versetzt. Die Suspension wurde 16 Stunden bei 120°C getrocknet. Anschließend wurden 3 kg des
Materials in einem Drehrohrofen 2 Stunden bei 980°C calciniert und mit einer
Spiralstrahlmühle gemahlen. Anschließend wurden ca. 0,2 Gew.-% TMP auf die
Partikeloberfläche gesprüht.
Die Partikelgröße d50 betrug 0,98 pm. Figur 2 zeigt eine REM-Aufnahme der Partikel. Die Partikel weisen im Vergleich zu den Partikeln aus Beispiel 1 und 2 eine deutliche
Stäbchenform auf.
Die gemäß Beispiel 1 und Beispiel 2 hergestellten Rutil-Titandioxidpartikel wurden mit Si02 und Al203 auf bekannte Weise nachbehandelt und anschließend in ein weißes
Alkydharzlacksystem eingearbeitet. Die Reflektion entsprechender 90 pm Lackaufzüge wurde mit einem UV/VIS/NIR Spektralphotometer Lambda 950 mit 150 mm Integrationskugel und eingesetzter Glanzfolie gemessen.
Figur 3 (Beispiel 1) und 4 (Beispiel 2) zeigen die gemessenen Reflektionsspektren. Es ist deutlich zu erkennen, dass die Reflektion mit zunehmender Partikelgröße im Sichtbaren abnimmt und im nahen IR zunimmt.
Claims
1. Infrarot-reflektierendes Pigment auf Basis Titandioxid enthaltend Rutil- Titandioxidpartikel charakterisiert durch folgende Merkmale:
- die Partikelgröße d50 liegt im Bereich von 0,4 bis 1 μητι,
- die Titandioxidpartikel sind dotiert mit Zink und Kalium und sind nicht dotiert mit Aluminium.
2. Infrarot-reflektierendes Pigment nach Anspruch 1 dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Partikel 0,1 bis 0,8 Gew. -% Zink, bevorzugt 0,2 bis 0,4 Gew.-% Zink und insbesondere 0,2 bis 0,25 Gew.-% Zink gerechnet als ZnO und bezogen auf Ti02 enthalten.
3. Infrarot-reflektierendes Pigment nach Anspruch 1 oder 2 dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass
die Partikel 0,1 bis 0,4 Gew.-% Kalium, bevorzugt 0,18 bis 0,26 Gew.-% Kalium gerechnet als K20 und bezogen auf Ti02 enthalten.
4. Infrarot-reflektierendes Pigment nach einem oder mehreren der Ansprüche 1 bis 3 dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass
die Titandioxidpartikel ein Seitenverhältnis von maximal 1 ,5:1 aufweisen.
5. Infrarot-reflektierendes Pigment nach einem oder mehreren der Ansprüche 1 bis 4 dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass
die Titandioxidpartikel anorganisch und/oder organisch oberflächenbehandelt sind.
6. Verfahren zur Herstellung eines Infrarot-reflektierenden Pigments auf Basis
Titandioxid, wobei
ein Eisen-Titan-haltiger Rohstoff mit Schwefelsäure aufgeschlossen wird und Eisensulfat und Titanylsulfat entsteht,
das Eisensulfat abgetrennt und das Titanylsulfat hydrolysiert wird,
das entstandene Titanoxidhydrat einem Bleichschritt unterzogen wird,
das gebleichte Titanoxidhydrat mit Rutilkeimen, einer Zinkverbindung und einer
Kaliumverbindung, jedoch nicht mit einer Aluminiumverbindung vermischt und calciniert wird und Rutil-Titandioxidpartikel mit einer Partikelgröße d50 von 0,4 bis 1 μηη entstehen.
7. Verfahren nach Anspruch 6 dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass
die Zinkverbindung in einer Menge zugegeben wird, dass die Titandioxidpartikel 0,1 bis 0,8 Gew.-% Zink, bevorzugt 0,2 bis 0,4 Gew.-% Zink und insbesondere 0,2 bis 0,25 Gew.-% Zink gerechnet als ZnO und bezogen auf Ti02 enthalten.
8. Verfahren nach Anspruch 6 oder 7 dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass
die Kaliumverbindung in einer Menge zugegeben wird, dass die Titandioxidpartikel 0,1 bis 0,4 Gew.-% Kalium, bevorzugt 0,18 bis 0,26 Gew.-% Kalium gerechnet als K20 und bezogen auf Ti02 enthalten.
9. Verfahren nach einem oder mehreren der Ansprüche 6 bis 8 dadurch
gekennzeichnet, dass
die Rutilkeime in einer Menge von 0,5 bis 1 ,0 Gew.-% bezogen auf Ti02 zugegeben werden.
10. Verfahren nach einem oder mehreren der Ansprüche 6 bis 9 dadurch
gekennzeichnet, dass
die Titandioxidpartikel ein Seitenverhältnis von maximal 1 ,5:1 aufweisen.
1 1. Verfahren nach einem oder mehreren der Ansprüche 6 bis 10 dadurch
gekennzeichnet, dass
die Titandioxidpartikel anschließend anorganisch und/oder organisch
oberflächenbehandelt werden,
12. Verwendung des Infrarot-reflektierenden Pigments gemäß einem oder mehreren der Ansprüche 1 bis 11 in Farben, Lacken, Kunststoffen, Putzen oder Pflastersteinen.
