Definitions

  • the present invention pertains to a device for clamping a fixture attachment to a wire saw cutting machine, comprising tension rods for fixing the fixture attachment to an adapter piece fixed to a machine part, according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • a device for clamping a fixture attachment to a wire saw cutting machine comprising tension rods for fixing the fixture attachment to an adapter piece fixed to a machine part, according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • Such a device is known, for example for clamping a fixture attachment to which a silicon ingot is glued to be machined by a wire saw cutting machine.
  • the fixture attachment is provided with two guiding shoulders with angled faces sliding in a correspondingly formed L-shaped strip, which in turn is fixed to an adapter piece.
  • the fixture device is clamped to the adapter piece by the tension rods, whereby the angled surfaces are clamped.
  • Normal sawing machines have multiple tension rods, normally placed- in a row extending in the direction the work piece extend in. In the Figure this is the direction perpendicular to the face of the drawings.
  • the angled surfaces on both the adapter piece and the fixture attachment has to be manufactured with high accuracy.
  • one or both these surfaces may be formed by standard parts, reducing the costs .
  • a further advantage of the present invention is that the surfaces of the adapter piece relevant for accurately clamping the fixture attachment can be cleaned easily because their surface is smaller.

  • Fig. 4 show a variant of the embodiment of Fig. 3.
  • Fig. 1 only some parts which are essential for the present invention are shown in a rather schematically way.
  • the working piece 1 for example a silicon ingot, is fixed to a transitional part 2, which in turn is fixed to a fixture attachment 3 of clamping device 4.
  • This clamping device 4 is attached to a machine part 5, in occurrence a feed carriage.
  • the machine 6 comprises sawing or cutting means like saw bands or saw wires 7 which may form a field of bands or wires and which are held between wire guiding rolls 8. Slurry may be used for sawing or the wires may have an abrasive coating or layer.
  • the wire may be pulled over the work piece in a continuous or a reciprocing manner.
  • besides silicon many other materials, preferably brittle materials, may be cut, such as sapphire, bore, stone, glass. Since the working piece is fixed, for example by gluing, to the intermediate part, which in turn is also glued to the fixture attachment, the positioning of the workpiece precision of the cutting operation—depends largely on the clamping of the fixture attachment to the machine part.
  • Prior art clamping 9 device comprises a fixture attachment 10, which is clamped to an adapter piece 11 with the aid of tension rods 12.
  • the connection of the attachment to the adapter is in the form of a dovetail connection.
  • T-shaped fixture attachment 10 comprises two angled guiding surfaces 13 at both edges of the top surface 14, in which an appropriate groove 15 has been formed for receiving the tension rods 12.
  • Adapter piece 11 comprises corresponding parts, e.g. a flat bottom 16 and two angled guiding surfaces 17, closed by L- shaped strips 18.
  • Adapter piece 11 is fixed to feed carriage 5.
  • this construction involves the danger of a slanted clamping, lowering thus the precision and quality of the cutting operation, because there is necessarily some lateral play between the fixture attachment and the tension rods, so that the contact, during the clamping procedure, may not be the same on both sides of the guiding surfaces.
  • the fixture attachment can always be introduced in two different ways into the adapter piece since there are no orientation means.
  • adapter piece 21 is provided at least with one guiding means 22 in the form of a guiding rail which is received in a matching groove 23 in fixture attachment 19.
  • the profile of the end 22A of the guiding means cooperating with the groove is prismatic or tapered, tapered meaning a cross section that reduces in direction of the matching grooves and may be convex, concave, with flat or curved faces, providing two contact surfaces with the matching groove.
  • the walls of the groove may be slanted to match with the guiding rail.
  • the rail may extend over the complete length of a work piece , a part thereof or over multiple work pieces.
  • a guide bar 24 is provided, serving as abutment means, which is received in a matching groove 25 in fixture attachment 19.
  • the end 24A of the guide bar received in the groove is rectangular, such as the profile of the groove 25.
  • Guide bar 24 fits in the rectangular groove 25 so that the former can move in lateral direction, left to right in figs. 3 and 4. In this way the guide bar 24 does not define the lateral position.
  • the abutment means and the guiding means are made such that the mechanical system is statically determinated. Moreover only the guiding means delimit the movement of the fixture attachment from left to right in the drawings .
  • the guiding means and the guide bar are attached by screws to the adapter piece or can be made in one piece.
  • Fig. 4 shows a variant of the embodiment of Fig. 3 in that both the guiding means and the guide bar of clamping device 4A are not provided at the adapter piece but at the fixture attachment.
  • Fixture attachment 29 is similar to fixture attachment 19 with the difference that the guiding means 30 with the front end 30A and the guide bar 31 with its front end.31A are attached to it. As mentioned above those two pieces are interchangeably.
  • the groove 32 matching guiding means 30 is prismatic or tapered as well as the front end 30A of the guiding means, whereas groove 33 at the other end of the adapter piece matching guide bar 31 has the same rectangular profile as the end of guide bar 31, having a flat surface, that may be the bottom of a recess.
  • the matching of the guiding means and guide bars with the grooves has the meaning to delimit the transversal movement.
  • the guiding means extend at least partially over the length of the fixture attachment 19, 29.
  • the guiding elements provide for a separation of the charging and decharging function and the clamping function.
  • Both sides of the adapter piece 21, 34 are provided with a guide plate 26 forming a knee, whose longer member 27 is fixed to the adapter piece and whose shorter member 28 supports the fixture attachment when it is slid under the adapter piece.
  • the prismatic form of the guiding means has the advantage to be able to equalise in a certain measure tolerances, thus enabling a high precision in the longitudinal direction as well as in the height.
  • the guide bar provided on the other side of the tension rods results in a broader horizontal support which, together with the smaller distance of the slanted prismatic surfaces results in an enhancement of the clamping properties. This gives a clamping with higher precision and ⁇ -reproducibility .
  • the fixture attachment can be introduced into the clamping device in one way only. Theoretically, this would also apply with one guiding means or one guide bar only, but possibly with lesser precision.
  • All the guiding elements, guiding rails or means 22, 24 or guide bars 30, 31 can be executed as an integral part of the adapter piece 21, 34 or of the fixture element 19, 29, or foreseen to be removably attached.
  • Clamping device 4 or 4A according to the invention comprise tension rods 20 for clamping the fixture attachment 19, 29 to the adapter piece 21, 34.
  • the tension rods are introduced into the fixture attachment in a determined position and then rotated by 90° for lifting off and clamping the fixture attachment.
  • the tension rods cannot be considered as guiding elements, which are arranged on both sides of the tension rods.
  • the adapter piece can be provided with two guide rails. Theoretically this could apply also to two guide bars, only that in this case this would demand either a very high precision or result in a relatively important play.
