  • the vehicle window which in the present case is designed as a composite pane for roof glazing of a motor vehicle, comprises an outer layer 10 and an inner layer 12, between which at least sections a functional layer 14 is arranged, by means of which a light transmission characteristic of the vehicle window is to be influenced.
  • the light transmittance and thus the degree of darkening of the vehicle window are influenced by absorbing or reflecting part of a spectrum of a light entering in accordance with the arrows Ia and transmitting the remaining part according to the arrows Ib into an interior of the motor vehicle .
  • the functional layer 14 is additionally switchable and coupled to an electrical energy source (not shown) to provide a somewhat adjustable light transmission characteristic.
  • the vehicle window shown produces, for example, from sunlight falling in accordance with the arrows Ia a darkened or, in the case of a switchable functional layer 14, darkenable light with a dark blue hue.
  • vehicle windows with functional layers 14 are known, which can be switched between a "clear”, translucent and a “matte” state, in which they produce a diffused white light without significant darkening.
  • the functional layer 14 is usually formed as a film or applied to the outer layer 10 and the inner layer 12 by means of a coating process.
  • a disadvantage of the known vehicle windows is the fact that even with vehicle windows with switchable trained functional layers 14, only the opacity or the transmittance can be influenced, the color and thus the transmitted part of the spectrum of the incident light, however, is predetermined.
  • Object of the present invention is therefore to provide a vehicle window of the type mentioned and a motor vehicle with such a vehicle window, in which a more variable light transmission characteristic is enabled.
