Definitions
- This invention relates to a dispenser assembly for a door for a refrigerator, freezer, wine cooler or any other type of cooler which is adaptable to receiving conventional sized vessels therein as well as larger vessels, which are usually too large to fit into such dispenser housing to fit.
- the invention relates to a dispensing assembly for use with various sized vessels in refrigerators of varying door fill strength.
- Most current designs for refrigerators typically include a system for producing chilled water and ice that can be dispensed without requiring the refrigerator door opening and engagement with its interior.
- Such systems typically include a supply of water to the interior of the refrigerator, which is cooled and / or frozen into ice that may be dispensed through an outlet assembly through the wall of the refrigerator and through a door dispenser assembly.
- Such door dispensers typically have a fixed size and can only accommodate vessels up to a predetermined size.
- the dispensing arrangements typically discussed typically include a refrigerator door compartment open to the exterior of the refrigerator and a cavity and underlying support surface for supporting a glass or similar vessel to be filled with chilled water and / or ice.
- the former dispensing arrangements have been made to be of limited size so as not to present a large cavity in the door of the refrigerator disturbing the eye.
- a problem with such a construction is that, if it is desired to dispense water into larger vessels, for example larger than conventional drinking glasses such as pitchers, etc., the door dispenser assembly may not be used for such purposes.
- a door dispenser assembly is provided, particularly for use with refrigerators, freezers, and / or wine coolers.
- the door dispenser assembly includes a housing having a cavity therein for receiving a vessel to dispense a substance into the vessel.
- a housing control mechanism is for controlling the discharge of substances such as water and / or ice discharged from the housing.
- An issuer is associated with the control mechanism for dispensing the substances therefrom.
- a tray or flap which is pivotable between a first position and a second position. In the first position, the shelf or flap is received in the cavity of the housing and provides a support surface on an upper level for a vessel to be supported thereon. Such support on an upper level accommodates vessels such as a conventional drinking glass.
- the shelf or door is pivotable to a second position in which the shelf or door is pivoted to be outside the housing and its support surface is removed from the cavity to provide additional clearance in the housing to enable a larger vessel is supported in the cavity at a lower level than the higher level in the cavity.
- a support point is used to accommodate larger vessels such as taller glasses and / or even smaller pitchers.
- jugs may be supported on the outside of the cavity at a third support point on the flap which extends outside the cavity.
- the door dispenser assembly includes the support surface with perforations to enable dispensed substances to be in liquid form be able to walk through it.
- the housing has a support surface therein which provides the support surface at the lower level for a vessel.
- the shelf or flap has an L-shape with one of the legs of the shelf or flap forming the support surface when in the first pivot position and the other leg of the tray or flap forming a front cover when in the first pivot position.
- the tray is constructed to have a gap at one end connecting to the housing to provide sufficient clearance when the tray is rotated to the second pivot position sufficient to clear the housing of the dispenser assembly.
- a door dispenser assembly which includes a housing having a cavity therein for receiving a vessel to dispense a substance into the vessel.
- a housing control mechanism is for controlling the discharge of substances discharged thereby, and an issuer is assigned to the control mechanism for discharging the substances therefrom.
- a tray or flap mechanism having a shelf or flap which is provided between a first position in which the tray or flap is received in the housing and provides a support surface on an upper level for a vessel to be supported thereon second position, in which the tray is pivoted to the outside of the housing, wherein the support surface is removed from the cavity, is pivotable to provide additional clearance, to allow a vessel is supported in the cavity at a lower level.
- the flap in the second position provides the third support surface.
- the storage mechanism further includes a drive for causing the tray to be moved out of and from the cavity at its point of connection to the cavity as it is pivoted from the first position to the second position.
- a drive for causing the tray to be moved out of and from the cavity at its point of connection to the cavity as it is pivoted from the first position to the second position.
- the tray is connected to the gear drives and the tray gear housing such that the tray is received in the cavity with the portion providing the support surface at an upper level located approximately at the top of the tray gear housing so that the tray, when the tray Tray is moved to the second pivot position is driven away by the drive wheels a predetermined distance from the cavity and the storage gear housing.
- This is effected by pivoting to the second position, which causes the tray to be displaced and projects a predetermined distance from the storage gear housing and the cavity.
- the amount by which the tray and gear drives project outwardly depends on the thickness of the door panel with which the dispenser assembly is used, and may be adjusted to a predetermined distance with appropriate stops, as will be apparent to one of ordinary skill in the art.
