Dabei hat es sich als vorteilhaft herausgestellt, wenn der zum Zusammenbacken neigende heiße Zementklinker eine möglichst gleichmäßige Stückgröße und gleichmäßige Korngrößenverteilung aufweist. Daher ist es bereits bekannt, bei einem Rostkühler im Bereich einer Kühlroststufe als sogenannten Zwischenbrecher einen Walzenbrecher mit mehreren parallel angeordneten gegenläufig rotierbaren Brechwalzen anzuordnen, die sich über die gesamte Breite des Rostkühlers erstrecken und welche die Aufgabe haben, insbesondere die großen Klinkerstücke zu zerkleinern, die sich dann nach Durchgang durch die Walzenspalte im anschließenden Rostkühlerbereich weiter abkühlen lassen, siehe z. B.

Dadurch, dass beim erfindungsgemäßen einem Klinkerkühler zugeordneten Walzenbrecher als Brechwerkzeuge dienende auswechselbare Brechringe eingesetzt werden, von deren zylindrischer Außenseite Brechelemente vorspringen, die sowohl über den Umfang als auch über die Breite der Brechringkörper gleichmäßig verteilt bzw. gleichmäßig voneinander beabstandet angeordnet sind, werden die Aufgabegutmaterialien für die Brechwalzen einschließlich der in der heißen Klinkerschicht enthaltenen Glühnester von den Brechelementen der rotierenden Brechwalzen gleichmäßig aufgeschlossen, was eine gleichmäßige Korngrößenverteilung im Brecheraustragsgut und damit eine effektive Klinkerkühlung zur Folge hat.
