- the version number of the software of the respective banknote processing machine 10, 11 is compared with the version number of the most up-to-date software for the type of the respective banknote processing machine 10, 11. If a newer version is available, the corresponding software is sent from the service center 100 to the banknote processing machine 100.
- connection can also be established to the additional service centers 100 'or the service organization 106 described above.
- the service center 100 or 100 ' or service organization 106 to check whether the respective banknote processing machine 10, 11 is entitled to obtain software. This can be done by checking the identification data.
- a password can be requested from the respective banknote processing machine 10, 11. To secure data transfer, you can use the more secure or encrypted connections described above.
- the checking of the availability of new software by the respective banknote processing machine 10, 11 can be caused cyclically, for.
- the controller 4, 40 may perform the above-described procedure once a week, preferably at a time when the bank-note processing machine 10, 11 has not been used. The time can be fixed, z. For example, every Sunday at 4:00.
- the controller 4,40 can also log the periods in which there is a use or in which there is no use and then make the availability of new software based on this protocol, if usually no use is expected.
- the availability of new software can be checked depending on certain events, e.g. B. when the banknote processing machine 10, 11 is turned off by the operator. In this case, the bank note processing machine 10, 11 automatically shuts down after the verification and any loading of software is completed.
- the banknote processing machine 10,11 can be selectively checked whether certain software parts are available. For example, it can be specifically checked whether there are new comparative data, for the production of which newly emerged counterfeits have been taken into account.
- Distribution of software may be initiated by the service center 100.
- the service center 100 establishes a connection via the network 60 with the respective banknote processing machine 10, 11 or with a plurality of banknote processing machines 10, 11.
- the respective banknote processing machine 10, 11 checks whether the authorized service center 100 actually intends to establish the connection; B. done via an identification of the service center 100 and / or a password.
- the connection may be established as a secure and / or encrypted connection.
- the connection can also be established by the additional service centers 100 'or the service organization 106 described above.
- connection will always take place at specific, predetermined times.
- connection can also be established if there are special events, eg. B. if a new software version for a particular type of banknote processing machines 10, 11 is present in the data storage of the service center 100.
- the respective bank-note processing machine 10, 11 will transmit at least its identification data, ie type, serial number, version numbers of the software, etc. so that the service center 100 checks the data stored in its data memory for the respective bank-note processing machine 10, 11 and / or can update. Due to the identification data, the new software is transmitted from the service center 100 to the respective banknote processing machine 10, 11. The respective banknote processing machine 10, 11 stores the transmitted software in the non-volatile memory 5, 41.
- the respective banknote processing machine 10, 11 rejects the storage of the new software or even the establishment of the connection with the service center 100. This may be the case, for example, if the respective banknote processing machine 10, 11 is not ready at the moment, eg. B. because banknotes BN are processed. Another reason may be that the respective banknote processing machine 10, 11 is excluded from updating the software, e.g. B. because it is a test device. In the described cases, it may be provided that the service center 100 sends a special password to the respective banknote processing machine 10, 11, with which the rejection of the connection setup or the storage of new software is canceled.
- the above-described procedure for the distribution of software by the service center 100 can be carried out by the service center 100 for all banknote processing machines 10, 11, which are known to the service center 100, ie their identification data are stored in the data storage of the service center 100. If banknote processing machines 10, 11 are put into operation for the first time, their identification data must be recorded accordingly in the data memory. The same applies to a change in the identification data, z. For example, if the bill handling machine 10, 11 is again put into operation at another location, thereby changing the connection via the network 60, and a new address necessary for connection setup is required. The inclusion of the identification data in the data memory of the service center 100 may, for.
- Example take place in that the identification data are entered by a service person directly or via the network 60 in the data memory, but it can also be provided that the identification data from the newly put into operation banknote processing machine 10, 11 are transmitted via the network 60 to the service center 100, which then stores the identification data in their data memory. In addition, it can be checked whether the bank-note processing machine 10, 11 is authorized to register its identification data. This can be z.
- Example take place in that the final storage of the identification data in the data storage of the service center 100 only takes place when the identification data from the sales department 104, which has all the sales data of banknote processing machines 10, 11 have been checked.
- the service center 100, the service person, the operator or the operator of the banknote processing machine 10, 11 can also specify which software is provided by the service center 100 of the respective banknote processing machine 10, 11. For example, it can be specified that only new comparison data are made available, which have been produced due to newly appeared counterfeits.
- the service center 100 determines, as described above, to which banknote processing machine 10, 11 software to be distributed. For this purpose, the identification data of the banknote processing machine 10, 11 are evaluated by the service center 100 in order to be able to determine the software required by the respective banknote processing machine 10, 11. In particular, the type of banknote processing machine 10, 11, the version of the existing software, special wishes of the operator or the operator, a subscription for special embodiments or parts of software, etc. considered.
- the software required for the respective bank-note processing machine 10, 11 software is selected by the service center 100 and transmitted via the network 60 to the bank-note processing machine 10, 11. It may be provided that the service center 100, the software for the banknote processing machine 10, 11 completely processed, z. B. in addition to the software the necessary comparison data, presets, etc. 1966yoggt so that they can be transmitted as a functional unit to the banknote processing machine 10, 11. This ensures that the banknote processing machine 10,11, for example, after the software update works in the manner previously set by the operator. In addition, this compatibility problems can be avoided if z. B. a new version of software is not compatible with existing comparison data or preferences.
- the new software After the new software has been completely transferred from the service center 100 via the network 60 to the bank-note processing machine 10, 11, it is stored in the non-volatile memory 5, 41. Likewise, it may be provided that the storage in the non-volatile memory 5, 41 is already made during the transmission via the network 60.
- the current software state of the bank-note processing machine 10, 11 can be stored. If the non-volatile memory 5, 41 of the bank-note processing machine 10, 11 has sufficient capacity, the software state can also be correspondingly stored in the bank-note processing machine 10, 11 itself or the original software can be kept unchanged.
- the current software state contains in particular also information about all individual settings, stored statistics and log files, etc.
- the safeguarding of the functionality of the bank-note processing machine 10, 11 is additionally improved if basic components of the so-called firmware are excluded from changes.
- Firmware is understood to be the parts of the software which determine elementary functions of the control device 4, 40. If such parts of the firmware can not be changed via the interface 6, 42, can be achieved be that the banknote processing machine 10,11 remains functional even in the event that when loading new software errors occur and the software is not stored correctly. In this case, the loading process can be repeated because it is controlled by the unchanged firmware.
- the banknote processing machine 10, 11 checks whether the software originates from an authorized source 100, 100 ', 106, the software being permanently stored in the non-volatile memory 5, 41 of the banknote processing machine 5, 41 only if the software is from the authorized source 100.100 ', 106 is from.
- new software is loaded via the interface 6, 42 and stored in the non-volatile memory 5, 41, it is checked by the controller 4, 40 before storing the software in the non-volatile memory 5, 41, if the software from the authorized source, eg , B. the service center 100,100 'of the manufacturer of the banknote processing machine 10,11, the service organization 106, etc., comes.
- the software from the authorized source so z. B. the service center 100, characterized, for.
- the software and / or the hash value can be encrypted, in particular with an asymmetrical encryption method, ie the authorized source uses a secret key for the encryption.
- an unillustrated programmable logic module can be connected to the control device 4, 40.
- special data and / or software to be protected may be stored, as well as the basic for the control of the banknote processing machine 10,11 and its control unit 4, 40 basic software that z. B. the firmware described above is called.
- the software can also be part of the firmware, which is used for checking software to be loaded via the interface 6, 42, as described above.
- the storage of the software to be loaded into the non-volatile memory 5, 41 takes place only after checking by the logic module.
- secret data can be stored in the logic module and especially be protected, z. B. secret key, and / or the public key described above.
- the programmable logic device can be formed, for example, by a CPLD (Complex Programmable Logic Device) or an FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array).
- a programmable logic device is programmed by establishing connections between gates of the programmable logic device. This programming can be done by means of a user-designed design in which the connections of the gates are determined so as to determine the function of the programmable logic device.
- the utilities used to program the logic chips also contain mechanisms to protect the designed design.
- the programming of the logic modules is usually carried out by means of a binary data stream which is interpreted within the logic modules.
- the format of the programming data used is kept secret in order to greatly impede or render impossible a back translation and thus the analysis of the design.
- Programmable logic devices that are programmed only once, because they permanently store the connections specified during programming, are also protected against reading out the data by an internal protection circuit. This can also prevent the copying of the design to an identical programmable logic device, which results in a particularly high level of protection for the data.
- the data is stored within the described secure environment in the programmable logic device and can only be made available by it for further processing.
- the software to be loaded consists of an identification part and the actual software, the identification part contains the identification of the authorized source.
- the identification part contains the identification of the authorized source.
- it may be z. B. may be the hash value described above, which may also be encrypted.
- the actual software can, as described, consist of programs which control the banknote processing machine 10, 11 by means of the control device 4, 40.
- data may be included, the z. B. as the comparison data described above for the evaluation of the signals of the sensor device 3, 30 are used.
- the associated data will always be contained in the software, and with changed or new data always the programs.
- the software may then be checked for whether it originates from an authorized source whenever the software is read from the nonvolatile memory 5, 41 by the controller 4, 40 for execution.
- a proof of payment for the use of software, data, etc., on certain Bank note processing machines 10, 11 is generated, wherein the software is permanently stored and / or executed only in the presence of the proof of payment.
- the proof of payment can be realized, for example, that the identification part contains an individual identifier that corresponds to an individual identifier of a particular banknote processing machine 10, 11, and the z. B. in the non-volatile memory 5, 41 and, respectively, the logic module described above is stored.
- the individual identifier present in the identification part is compared with the individual identifier of the banknote processing machine 10, 11 by the control device 4, 40 or the logic module. Only if the two individual identifiers match, the software is stored in the non-volatile memory 5, 41. In this way it is possible that software can be selectively loaded and stored only in a specific banknote processing machine 10, 11. Which among other things it can be ensured that for paid software a corresponding remuneration was paid or becomes.
- the identification part may further contain a common identifier corresponding to a common identifier of several banknote processing machines 10,11, and the z. B. is stored in the nonvolatile memory or the logic module described above.
- the common identifier with the common identifier of the respective banknote processing machine 10 present in the identification part is 11 compared by the control device 4, 40 or the logic module. Only if the two common identifiers match does the software be stored in the nonvolatile memory 5, 41. In this way, it is possible that software can be selectively loaded and stored only in a fixed group of banknote processing machines 10,11, all having the same common identifier. Among other things, this ensures; that paid software has been or will be paid a corresponding fee, since it is known how many bank-note processing machines 10, 11 belong to the group of bank-note processing machines 10, 11 with their own common identifier.
- the software can always be checked whether a fee has been paid if the software from the control device 4, 40 for execution from the non-volatile memory 5, 41 is read.
- the payment of the fee can also be ensured if the service center 100 determines the identity of the particular bank-note processing machine 10, 11 during the transfer of software to a specific bank-note processing machine 10, 11 on the basis of its identification data and bills the operator for the corresponding fee. For example, an invoice can be omitted if the operator has signed a contract for the renewal of software, for which this z. B. paid monthly payments.
- the banknote processing machine 10, 11 sends an activation message to the service center 100 when the new software is first activated via the interface 6, 42 and the network 60.
- the service center 100 then charges the new software to the operator as described above.
- the service center 100 sends an acknowledgment to the banknote processing machine 10, 11, without which the new software can not be executed .
- the confirmation of the service center 100 may be, for example, a password or a key.
- the payment of the fee can also be achieved by the operator acquiring a specific credit balance from the manufacturer or service organization 106, which is reduced each time new software is stored in the non-volatile memory 5, 41 or first executed.
- a chip card 14 can be used, in which the credit is stored.
- the calculation of the corresponding amount can z. B. on the basis of the used functionality, for example, the sorting of banknotes, and / or the throughput, for example, the number of processed banknotes occur.
- new software is provided for test purposes by the service center 100.
- the new software is stored in the non-volatile memory 5, 41 and can be executed for a certain period of time and / or for a certain number of processing operations. If the operator of the banknote processing machine 10, 11 pays the required fee, the new software can continue to be used even after the period has expired or if the number of processing operations has been exceeded. If the payment is not made, the original state of the bank note processing machine is restored. This can for example be done in the manner described above, that before storing the new software in the non-volatile memory 5, 41, the current software state of the bank-note processing machine 10, 11 is stored, for. In the service center 100.
- comparison data used for the recognition of the type and authenticity as well as the evaluation of the state of the banknotes BN to be processed are of crucial importance.
- the comparison data of all banknote processing machines 10,11 can be constantly updated, for. Example by means of the distribution of software described above, which may also contain the comparison data.
- comparison data is, as described above, usually performed by the department for the adaptation of comparison data 102.
- the banknotes of various currencies to be processed are examined, and corresponding comparative data are produced for each denomination of each currency.
- a special processing mode can be started, for. B. by means of the input / output device 12, 45. It may be necessary for the operator to prove his authorization to activate the special editing mode, e.g. B. by means of the card 14th
- the operator is requested to insert the novel counterfeit or banknotes of the not yet known currency into the input compartment 1, 21 of the banknote processing machine 10, 11.
- the novel counterfeit or banknotes of the unknown currency are then processed by the banknote processing machine 10, 11 in the manner described above.
- the data of the sensor device 3, 30 are unprocessed or processed by the control device 4, 40, z. B. compressed, transmitted via the interface 6, 42 and the network 60 to the service center 100 and stored in the data storage of the service center 100.
- the operator may be repeatedly asked for reinserting the counterfeit or banknotes of the unknown currency, for example, to be able to detect the banknotes in all four possible positions with the sensor device 3, 30 to to generate corresponding data for each of the possible positions.
- the data stored in the data storage of the service center 100 of the counterfeit or banknotes of the unknown currency are evaluated to produce comparative data. This can be done automatically by the service center 100 or by the department for the adaptation of comparison data 102. However, it is also possible for an expert of the department for the adaptation of comparison data 102 to carry out the evaluation of the data or to control it in order to produce the comparison data. It may also be provided to aid the expert of the Department for the Adaptation of Comparative Data 102 in his assessments be that images of each banknote to be assessed from the banknote processing machine 10, 11 in the service center 100 and the department for the adaptation of comparison data 102 via the internal network 105 are transmitted.
- the images of the respective banknote to be assessed can be generated from the data of the sensor device 3, 30, but it is also possible to use a special camera or a scanner.
- the expert of the department for the adaptation of comparison data 102 can also give instructions to the operator of the bank-note processing machine 10, 11 via the network 60, for example, to generate data for certain banknotes again.
- the instructions may in particular be acoustic and / or optical, z.
- Example by means of videophone which can be realized by the network 60 as Internet telephony, the acoustic and / or optical instructions by means of the display and a speaker of the input / output device 12,45 of the banknote processing machine 10, 11 can be reproduced for the operator.
- the expert of the department for the adaptation of comparison data 102 directly controls the bank-note processing machine 10, 11 for obtaining the data of the counterfeit or banknotes of the unknown currency via the network 60.
- the comparison data produced are stored in the data memory of the service center 100 and made available via the network of the banknote processing machine 10, 11 and stored therein in the nonvolatile memory 5, 41. Since the comparison data produced are stored in the data memory of the service center 100, they are now also available to the other banknote processing machines 10, 11.
- the comparison data are prepared by evaluating the data of the counterfeit or the banknotes of the unknown currency in the service center 100, it is also possible that the comparison data are produced by the bank note processing machine 10,11, the purpose of the Operator is operated.
- the production of the comparison data can be carried out automatically by evaluation of the data of the counterfeit or the banknotes of the unknown currency by the control device 4, 40.
- the expert may also be present at the location of the banknote processing machine 10 and use a service computer 50 connected to the banknote processing machine 10.
- the expert on site can use the input / output device 12, 45 of the banknote processing machine 10, 11. It may be necessary for the expert to identify himself by means of a card 14.
- the comparison data thus prepared are stored in the non-volatile memory 5, 41 of the bank-note processing machine 10, 11.
- the comparison data may be transmitted over the network to the service center 100 to be stored in its data memory.
- the comparison data are then also available to the other banknote processing machines 10, 11.
- banknotes BN When processing banknotes BN with the bank-note processing machine 10, 11, the banknotes BN to be processed are then compared both with the comparison data already present in the nonvolatile memory 41 and with the subsequently generated additional comparison data of the novel counterfeits. If banknotes are identified as counterfeits on the basis of the comparative data for novel counterfeits, these are marked as counterfeit according to the usual procedure and treated accordingly, eg. B. stored in the special output tray 25.
- the checking of the banknotes can be carried out more effectively if, in the banknote processing machine 10, 11, it is first determined by the control device 40 which type of banknote is involved, ie. H. which currency the banknote belongs to and which denomination it has. Was already in the verification of the authenticity of the bill with the original in the non-volatile memory 5, 41 comparative data found that it is a forgery, a further review can be omitted. Otherwise, it is then selectively checked whether there are additional comparative data for novel counterfeits for the determined type of banknote (currency, denomination). If no comparison data are available, the check can be ended. In the case of the presence of comparative data for one or more novel counterfeits, the corresponding comparison data can be compared with the data of the sensor device 3, 30 for the respective banknote in order to determine whether the respective banknote is forged.
- the described embodiments and examples for the production of comparative data have the advantage that the comparison data are available to all banknote processing machines 10, 11 within the shortest possible time. This is possible with very little personnel, since the process of producing the comparison data is largely automatic. These advantages result to a large extent from the fact that the novel counterfeits, or the banknotes of the unknown currency, do not the service center 100 or the department for the adaptation of comparison data 102 must be transported.
- the distribution of the new comparison data can be further accelerated if the service center 100 actively transmits the newly established comparison data to further bank-note processing machines 10, 11 as soon as they are present in the data storage of the service center 100.
- a further safeguard of the operation of the banknote processing machines 10,11, in particular of the banknote processing machines 10 used for the deposit of banknotes, can be achieved if z.
