Definitions

  • the present invention relates to an iron and more particularly to an iron comprising a device for spreading an additive on the laundry.
  • the additive To be used with such spreading devices, the additive must have a viscosity adapted to the spreading device, be chemically neutral vis-à-vis the materials of the spreading device and in particular the reservoir, and preferably be soluble and concentric in water.
  • Such constraints have the disadvantage of considerably restricting the choice of the additive and leads to the removal of additives of greater efficiency.
  • the spray of the latter on the linen is accompanied by a strong diffusion of the perfume into the atmosphere, which leads to perfume the atmosphere with an intensity that can become unpleasant for the user.
  • an object of the present invention is to overcome these disadvantages.
  • the subject of the invention is an iron comprising an additive reservoir and a device for spreading the additive on the laundry, characterized in that the reservoir contains at least one additive packaged in the form of microcapsules in suspension. in a liquid, the membrane of the microcapsules being made of a material chemically compatible with the materials of the device used to spread the additive.
  • chemically compatible material is meant a material which does not noticeably degrade the materials of the spreading device of the additive over the lifetime of the iron.
  • the microencapsulation of the additive has the advantage of eliminating the contact direct between the additive and the elements of the device for spreading the additive, which reduces the problems of chemical aggression or clogging related to the nature of the additive.
  • the microencapsulation of the additive makes it possible, without the addition of any additional agent, to use additives which are insoluble in water and do not offer the possibility of being concentrable or dilutable to be spread on the linen in optimal conditions.
  • microencapsulation of the additive also makes it possible to produce, without emulsifier, homogeneous and stable suspensions with an equivalent concentration of additive ranging from 0 to 45% by weight, this maintaining a very low viscosity allowing adaptation to any distribution system.
  • microencapsulation also has the advantage of preventing the additive from losing its effect when the reservoir of additive is subjected to high temperatures following the operation of the iron.
  • microencapsulation of the additive has the advantage of avoiding diffusion into the atmosphere of the additive when the latter is spread by means of a spraying device. This prevents the user from inhaling the additive when using the spraying device.
  • the microcapsules are suspended in water.
  • the water which then serves to convey the microcapsules also has the advantage of moistening the laundry, which facilitates ironing.
  • the additive contained in the microcapsules comprises a perfume.
  • the additive contained in the microcapsules comprises an anti-odor active ingredient, such as undecylenic acid.
  • the liquid in which the microcapsules are in suspension contains another type of additive. than that contained in the microcapsules, such as an additive to improve the glide of iron.
  • Such a characteristic has the advantage of making it possible to obtain a two-effect additive, a first immediate effect, associated with the additive included in the liquid supporting the microcapsules, and a second delayed effect, associated with the additive included in the microcapsules.
  • the device for spreading the additive on the laundry is a spraying device.
  • Such a device has the advantage of being simple and in perfect adequacy with the use of a microencapsulated additive since the encapsulation of the additive makes it possible to avoid the excessive diffusion of additive into the atmosphere during spraying.
  • the spraying device comprises a nozzle fed by a pump.
  • the iron is a steam iron and the spray device is a sprayer using the driving force of the steam.
  • Such a characteristic has the advantage of making it possible to obtain a powerful low-cost sprayer, the encapsulation of the additive making it possible to very strongly limit the emission into the atmosphere of the additive inherent in the spray.
  • the tank is removable from the iron.
  • Such a feature makes it easy to fill the tank or exchange it quickly for another.
  • the invention also relates to a removable reservoir for equipping an iron as described above, characterized in that it contains at least one additive packaged in the form of microcapsules suspended in a liquid, the membrane of the microcapsules being made in a material chemically compatible with the materials of the tank.
  • the figure 1 represents a steam iron conventionally comprising a heating soleplate 1 and a vaporization chamber fed by a main reservoir, not shown in the figure.
  • the iron also comprises a spraying device comprising a piston pump 2 fed by an additive reservoir 3 and connected to a spraying nozzle 4.
  • the additive reservoir 3 is preferentially in the form of a mounted cassette. removable on the body of the iron.
  • the additive reservoir 3 contains microcapsules suspended in a liquid, the microcapsules containing an additive.
  • microcapsules are preferably constituted by capsules with polymeric walls of a diameter of a few micrometers and are prepared according to a method known per se, for example according to one of the methods described in US Pat. French patents FR 1 334 918 and FR 2 548 046 .
  • the membranes of the microcapsules will be made of melamine-formaldehyde so as to be chemically neutral vis-à-vis the plastic materials, polypropylene type, usually used to achieve the spraying device and in particular the additive reservoir .
  • the microcapsules contain a perfume and are suspended in water.
  • the water and the microcapsules of the tank 3 are sprayed through the nozzle 4 and are deposited in the fibers of the laundry.
  • This spraying is carried out without significant dispersion of perfume in the atmosphere, the perfume remaining contained in the microcapsules.
  • the perfume of the microcapsules is released into the laundry either following a mechanical stress such as the passage of the iron or the handling of the garment, or gradually over time, the main mode of release can be chosen easily depending on the size of the capsules and their wall thickness.
  • Such an iron in which the spray pump is fed with a microencapsulated perfume thus has the advantage of allowing the perfuming of laundry during ironing in a simple and fast way, and this without excessively perfuming the atmosphere so that this application remains pleasant for the user.
  • microencapsulation of the perfume also makes it possible to prevent the perfume contained in the reservoir from losing its bouquet, in particular under the effect of the elevation of the temperature of the reservoir during the operation of the iron.
  • Such use of a microencapsulated perfume also has the advantage of allowing the use of a wide variety of perfumes and in particular perfumes which, if they were not encapsulated, would degrade the spraying device and in particular the walls of the tank.
  • microencapsulation of the perfume makes it possible to obtain a retarding effect in the diffusion of the perfume, the diffusion and remanence parameters being able to be modified by modifying the size and the thickness of the walls of the capsules.
  • This additive may be associated with a perfume so as to perfume the laundry while impregnating the laundry anti-odor additive.
  • Such an embodiment has the advantage of allowing, by a simple and rapid operation, the application of an anti-odor active principle whose action over time will be prolonged by the gradual release of the active ingredient on the laundry. the progressive breakage of the microcapsules during the handling of the laundry.
  • the liquid in which the additive microcapsules are located may itself contain an additive, preferably different from that contained in the microcapsules, so that the additive contained in the reservoir and the additive contained in the microcapsules make it possible to obtain two separate effects.
  • the liquid, such as water, in which the microcapsules are suspended may contain silicone to promote the sliding of the iron, as described in the application of EP Patent 1 201 818 .
  • the silicone-additive water is sprayed directly onto the laundry, which makes it possible to immediately obtain an improvement in the glide of the iron.
  • the additive contained in the microcapsules projected by the spray pump will be released only gradually during the passage of iron or handling of the laundry.
  • the microcapsules suspended in the liquid of the reservoir may contain different types of additives.
  • some capsules of the tank will contain perfume and other capsules an active ingredient anti-odor or anti-bacterial.
  • the figure 2 represents an application of the invention to an iron associated with an external steam generator, not shown in the figure.
  • the iron comprises a pressurized steam inlet pipe 11 which feeds a spray device comprising a valve 12 controlled by a push button 13 and a spray nozzle 14 disposed on the front of the iron.
  • the vaporization nozzle 14 is supplied with steam by the valve 12 and comprises a venturi at the level of which opens an end of a tube 15, the other end of the tube immersed in an additive reservoir 16 arranged under the nozzle 14.
  • This reservoir 16 is in the form of a removable cassette and contains, in accordance with the invention, at least one additive packaged in microcapsules which are in suspension in a liquid.
  • the liquid supporting the microcapsules and the additive contained in the microcapsules will advantageously be chosen from the various examples previously described.
  • Such a spray device using the driving force of the steam has the advantage of being powerful, inexpensive and particularly advantageous when used in combination with a microencapsulated additive. Indeed, the packaging of the additive in capsules significantly reduces the dispersive effect inherent in such a steam spraying device. It then becomes possible to perfume linen without this causing excessive perfume of the ambient air.
  • the figure 3 represents the application of the invention to an iron having a dispensing system in which the additive is diluted at the dispensing device before being sprayed onto the laundry.
  • the iron comprises an electric pump 21 controlled by a knob 22, a main water reservoir 23 serving to supply a vaporization chamber, not shown in the figure, and a removable additive reservoir 24 disposed on the upper front part of the iron body.
  • the pump is electrically powered by two cables 25 and has two hydraulic inlets respectively connected to the additive tank 24 and a tube 26 immersed in the main tank.
  • the pump 21 comprises a mixing chamber in which the water coming from the main tank 23 is mixed with the liquid coming from the additive tank 24 and comprises an outlet connected to a pipe whose end is connected to a nozzle of spraying 27.
  • the microcapsules contained in the additive reservoir are present in high concentration, thus making it possible to obtain an equivalent concentration of additive of the order of 20% by mass or more.
  • the additive contained in the microcapsules is advantageously chosen from the various examples previously described.
  • the button 22 When the user wishes to treat his laundry with the additive, he presses the button 22, which triggers the start of the pump 21.
  • the pump 21 then draws the water from the main tank 23 and the liquid and the microcapsules of the additive tank 24 and then rejects a diluted mixture to the spray nozzle 27.
  • the use of a microencapsulated additive has the advantage of allowing a high concentration of additive in the tank while maintaining a reduced viscosity perfectly suited to a conventional pumping device.
  • the high concentration of additive thus makes it possible to use an additive reservoir of low capacity, which is compact and therefore easy to handle.
  • the microencapsulated additive can be introduced directly into the tank feeding the vaporization chamber of the iron so that the microcapsules will be deposited on the laundry by the steam outlet holes of the sole.
  • the microencapsulation of the additive has the advantage of protecting the coating of the vaporization chamber against a possible chemical attack of the additive.
  • the microencapsulation also makes it possible to protect the additive from the heat shock and thus enables the latter to maintain its integrity until it reaches the laundry.
