Für die Erfindung ist wesentlich, daß die plattenförmigen Werkstücke beim Durchlauf durch die Profilierungszone nicht in seitlicher Richtung verlaufen können, also exakt durch das Zusammenspiel der an den Werkstücken angebrachten Führungsnut und der maschinenseitigen Geradführungseinrichtung in der vorgegebenen Durchlaufrichtung zwangsgeführt werden, in der bzw. parallel zu der die beidseitige Profilierung der Schmalflächenseiten der Werkstücke vorgenommen wird. Zwar muß die zumindest eine Führungsnut an den Werkstücken in einem separaten Arbeitsgang angebracht werden, auch muß dafür ein geeigneter Bereich an den Werkstücken gefunden werden, man erreicht jedoch ein wesentlich besseres Ergebnis gegenüber einer solchen Führung, bei der die Werkstücke während des Durchlaufs im Bereich ihrer in Durchlaufrichtung liegenden Schmalflächenseiten beaufschlagt werden. Denn die Führungsnuten werden dort an Stellen der Werkstücke angebracht, wo Bearbeitungen nicht oder nicht mehr vorgenommen werden. Zudem kann über die gesamte Länge der Werkstücke in der Durchlaufrichtung der führende Eingriff in die Führungsnuten erfolgen. In der Regel haben die Werkstücke in ihrer Durchlaufrichtung eine erhebliche Länge, wodurch eine besondere Führungssicherheit gegeben ist.
