Definitions
- the invention relates to the technical sector of bags. backs used especially in hiking and mountain running.
- backpacks in their generality, are equipped with straps which are threaded by the wearer, and they offer no adjustment in position.
- certain hiker bags have, at the front overflow of the bag, two straps which are positioned to come at the level of the wearer's shoulders. These straps can be grasped by the wearer by each hand and allow a partial lifting of the bag and thus relieve the shoulders of said wearer.
- the applicant proposed to arrange the hiking backpack by allowing the wearer to position the bag part before the race relative to the carrying harness part, and this to meet two objectives, namely:
- the applicant has developed backpacks in which the back of the bag could receive a carrying harness which can be adjusted in position manually using a fastening system of the type, for example, hook-and-loop means, strap ladder, sliding straps.
- the wearer should therefore either prior to the hiking race, or during it, deposit the backpack, then, approximately, adjust and fix the harness relative to the back of the bag.
- Patent EP 628265 suggests another solution with means of remote control of the position of the components of the backpack adjustable in height, but in a complex arrangement.
- Patent DE 3843597 also suggests adjusting the height of the backpack in a complex implementation.
- the applicant has therefore continued his research, in order to seek a more efficient, faster solution, allowing adjustment of the function of the backpack on and by the wearer which offers better comfort, which is instantaneous adjustment, without the wearer having to remove the backpack, as was previously done.
- Another object sought after according to the invention was to optimize the precision of the adjustment by the wearer himself, in an easy, reliable manner, without complex gesture.
- the device for adjusting the position of carrying a backpack of the type comprising a back of the bag on which is positioned, in an adjustable manner, a carrying harness by manual remote control
- it comprises two means for controlling and adjusting the position established using commands manual from a distance, independent from each other, and allowing the back of the bag to be adjusted in position relative to the carrying harness, the first means allowing the back of the bag to be raised relative to the harness, and the second means lowering the back of the bag relative to the harness, in order to adapt the size of the back of the bag to the back of the wearer and to modify the support zones during walking to limit and reduce possible trauma
- the back of the bag is arranged to receive an endless belt arranged in its median longitudinal plane, said belt being secured by a strand to the carrying harness and allowing the relative movement of the back of the bag relative to the harness by the means or means of control and adjustment in position, and in that a locking mechanism (15) urged by the second control means acts and authorizes the locking in

- FIG. 22 is a partial perspective view illustrating the use of the protective cover for the control in position of the adjustment strap in position of the harness relative to the back of the bag.
- the backpack especially for hiking, is referenced as a whole by (S). It comprises a bag back (1) from which is fixed in a known manner the textile part forming the envelope (2) defining the volume of the bag. This arrangement is classic and can be carried out in any suitable manner.
- the back of the bag is made with a rigid lining material or in the form of a thermoformed shell and covered with a textile covering lining.
- the back of the bag can also present, internally, a tubular frame or any other reinforcement inserts.
- the back of the bag is capable of receiving, on its face on the carrier side, a carrying harness (3) equipped with shoulder straps (3 a - 3b) capable of allowing the porting.
- the adjustable positioning of the harness relative to the back of the bag being known per se, as recalled previously, and can be carried out along tabular (4) or otherwise profiled slides arranged along the back of the bag, the harness having loops of passage along said slides.
- the invention relates to a particular device for adjusting the position of the back of the bag relative to the carrying harness, and thus the arrangement of the backpack-harness assembly to perform this function. Said adjustment must therefore be made in two movements in displacement of the back of the bag relative to the carrying harness, the latter being in a fixed position on the carrier.
- the problem posed by the invention was therefore to create an arrangement which allows relative movement of the back of the bag relative to the carrying harness in a situation of raising the back of the bag or lowering the back of the bag relative to the harness, and this in an immediate and accessible way to facilitate the adjustment maneuver.
- the device for adjusting the back of the bag relative to the carrying harness comprises a first adjustment means (MI) established by means of a remote control manually requested by the operator himself.
- This first means essentially allows and has the function of causing the back of the bag to be raised relative to the harness. More specifically, it comprises a non-elastic traction cable (5), a first end (5a) of which is located in the lower part of the back of the bag, on one side thereof, the other end (5b) having a clamp or gripping loop (5 c).
- This said fixed end (5b) is in fact also positioned in the lower part of the back of the bag but opposite the first end.
- a return means (6) is positioned fixed in the lower middle part of the carrying harness allowing the passage of the cable and its travel.
- control loop is advantageously located in the lower part of the back of the bag at the lumbar level of the wearer and the latter can, without difficulty, act manually on this control.
- it is planned to hold it by one or more elastic tension strands (8) which are arranged between parts of the cable (FIG. 9) to form a serpentine configuration.
- said cable is always maintained and cannot swing unexpectedly, thus allowing the control loop to be kept in position.
- the loosening of the action on the cable by the carrier makes it possible to position the back of the bag relative to the carrying harness in the desired manner.
- the device of the invention also comprises a means (M2) making it possible to lower the back of the bag relative to the harness and thus to refine the adjustment in position of one relative to the other.
- said means (M2) taken as a whole, comprises a connecting means (9) between the harness and the back of the bag allowing the movement of one relative to the other, according to the maximum lifting positions , or maximum lowering or intermediate positions, and a second control means (7) allowing the desired positions.
- the connecting means (9) can be produced in the form of an endless belt made of any suitable material, this belt being located in the longitudinal median axis of the back of the bag.
- This belt is kept in tension, but is in free movement and is positioned relative to a first return means (10) fixedly located in the upper part of the back of the bag, and to a second return means (11) fixedly located in the lower part of the back of the bag.
- each return means comprises a yoke part (10a - l ia) with an axis (10b - 11b) over which the strand of the belt passes.
- the yoke (10a) of the upper return means is fixed to the back of the bag by any appropriate means.
- the second lower return means (11) can be located either directly in the lower part of the back of the bag, or in an intermediate position, as shown in FIG. 3. In this case, and if it is not possible to have a fixing at the place of the back of the bag, it is expected that the second return means is of a configuration allowing the fixing of two flanges (12) for connection and holding arranged for example in V and fixed in (12a ) in the lower part of the back of the bag.
- these can be closed loops, of rectangular configuration by example, part of which is secured to the back of the bag and the other free for the passage of the endless belt.
- the frame reinforcement has a U-shaped configuration with two longitudinal parallel branches forming slides and the horizontal connection part in the upper part of the back of the bag.
- the upper return means is fixed to the horizontal part of the frame. Said horizontal upper part has an opening for passage of the means (M2) which will be described later.
- the endless belt can be placed on one side of the back of the bag.
- the back of the bag has a transverse slot (la) allowing the free passage and sliding of the belt.
- said endless belt is, by one of its strands, secured to the carrying harness by one or more connecting means (13). It is thus understood that the movement of the harness relative to the back of the bag is closely associated with the movement of said endless belt according to an amplitude which is defined by the external parts, high and low, of the harness relative to the back of the bag. Said harness-endless belt connection is established by all appropriate means.
- said second means (M2) comprises a second control means (7) by the wearer.
- this second control means consists of a traction cable (7a) made of all suitable materials, this cable being remarkable in that at its lower end (7) it is associated with a second pulling loop ( 14) and to his upper end (7c) it is associated with a locking mechanism (15) and locking in position of the aforementioned endless belt, the intermediate part being referenced by (7a).
- this traction cable can be sheathed and follow a particular path along the back of the bag. It can be arranged, as shown in Figure 3 of the drawings, freely along the back of the bag being guided, for example, by the return means of the first cable associated with the harness and along an oblique path in the lower back of bag and vertical then.
- the tubular framework (4) established in the back of the bag to introduce said cable therein and bring it at its ends towards the upper part of the back of the bag at the location of the upper return means ( 10) of the strap, and close to the lower part of the back of the bag for the pulling loop, as shown in figure 10.
- said second control cable (7) is associated with a locking mechanism (15) capable of acting on the aforementioned endless belt in order to authorize or prevent movement of the latter. this under certain conditions.
- the yoke constituting the first upper deflection means (10) of the endless belt (9) is arranged to receive a complementary horizontal axis (16) mounted between the wings of said yoke and allowing the reception of a means of articulated blocking (15) constituting the locking mechanism.
- This comprises a tab (15a), forming a lever, having in its middle part a ring (15b) disposed around the aforementioned axis. Said tab extends on either side of the ring in having a serrated profiled shape (15c) capable of coming into contact and pressure on the opposite part of the belt, and an extension (15d) at the rear allowing the end of the second control cable to be hooked.
- a pin spring type return means (15e) is mounted on the aforementioned ring and tends to tilt the tab part so that there is always a continuous contact with the endless belt.
- this second command (M2) is carried out as follows.
- the actuation by the wearer of the associated loop (14) makes it possible to exert traction on the cable (7) by causing it to pull down and consequently raising the locking lever (15) and releasing the endless belt ( 9) ( Figure 7).
- the locking mechanism makes it possible to act in blocking on the belt when the control means (Ml - M2) are not used.
- the means (Ml) is requested, allowing the lifting of the back of the bag relative to the harness, the locking means is raised automatically allowing the endless unwinding of the belt.
- the means (M2) is requested, the locking means is raised allowing the lowering of the back of the bag by its own load.
- FIGS. 11 to 16 An alternative embodiment of the adjustment device in the position for carrying the backpack has been illustrated in FIGS. 11 to 16. In this setting work, the parts or components described above retain the same references.
- the connecting belt (9) remains secured to the harness by connecting means (13) of the aforementioned type.
- said belt is wound around an axis (17a) of a loop fastener (17), while the second axis (17b) thereof allows the winding of a passer-by (18 ) whose lower end (18a) is suitably attached to the back of the bag in its lower part.
- the endless connecting belt (9) is kept in higher tension on the axis (10b) of the upper deflection means (10) described above and located between the wings (10d) of the latter.
- the return means (10) includes the complementary axis (16) on which the locking mechanism (15) is articulated.
- the return means includes an upper axis (10e) between the wings (10d), the function of which will be explained later.
- the locking means pivotally mounted on the axis (16) is arranged with a serrated profiled shape (15c) capable of coming into contact and pressure on the opposite part of the endless belt (9).
- the locking means (15) has an extension (15f) which is in a V-shaped angle with the serrated shape (15c) being in a plane externally with respect to the plane of said form (15c), as shown more particularly in FIG. 12.
- the return spring (15e) of the pin type is mounted on the axis (16) and one of its branches (15el) is capable of bearing on a bearing wall (101) formed on the return means (10) and the other branch (15e2) bears on the rear face of the extension (15f).
- this variant implementation of the control device (M2) consists in using a strap (19), one end (19a) of which is secured to the connecting belt (9) in an area located at the place of attachment of said belt (9) with the harness, or alternatively at the same place.
- Said strap (19) as it appears in FIGS. 11 to 16, bypasses the locking mechanism (15) and is supported thereon in particular on the extension part (15f) of the rocking lever.
- the strap is then guided around the upper axis (10e) to be then guided between the back of the bag and the rear strand of the connecting strap (9).
- the second end (19b) of the strap is associated and secured to the loop (14) of the aforementioned type of the control means (M2).
- Said second end (19b) of the strap (19) is free in position as shown for example in Figure 13 to be pulled by the user in all positions. It is thus conceivable that the strap (19) is guided by one or more loops fixed in the lower part of the back of the bag.
- FIG. 14 also shows the use of a flange (20) for guiding the strap or a strand of the connecting belt (9) towards the return means (10).
- the cable (5) of the first means control is attached by means of a connecting flange (21) to the harness.
- the strap can be tilted freely laterally with respect to the back of the bag and be actuated by the user in the most practical manner for the latter.
- FIGS. 15 and 16 to explain the methods of using the device of the invention.
- the actuation of the control means (Ml) causes the stress on the cable (5) and therefore the traction of the connecting belt (9) associated with the harness to which the end (5a) of the cable is attached. .
- This causes the belt (9) to scroll downwards, against the locking means (15) which pivots according to the arrow (FI), the back of the bag rises according to the arrow (F2), the harness remaining in place on the user.
- the actuation is carried out this time on the control means (M2); this causes the strap (19) to be actuated.
- the strap pivots the lever (15) by pressing on its branch in extension (15f) thus releasing the connecting belt (9). This allows the downward movement of the back of the bag as shown in Figure 3.
- the upper return means (10) has an axis (10e) which allows the passage and return of the strap (19).
- the axis (10e) is shaped in a convex or conical configuration (lOel ). This convex or conical configuration is a function of the width of the strap (19) and of the choice of the orientation given to the positioning of the latter. This has the effect of allowing the strap (19) to be oriented laterally by sliding and causing it to assume the oblique position as shown in FIGS. 17 and 18.
- said axis (10e) has a convex configuration and the strap (19) is less than half the width of the length of the axis (10e) to be positioned and slid alternately to the right or to the left, giving the desired orientation. If the orientation of the strap (19) obliquely is only on one side, the axis (10e) is conical with a slope oriented in the direction of the positioning side of the strap. The width of the strap may then be greater.
- the strap (19) present on its free end strand (19b), the strand (19a) being secured to the harness and to the endless belt, with an end shape (19bl) narrowed, directly obtained by weaving, braiding or other to mate with the control handle of the means (M2) produced in the form of a strip gripping (25) of elastomeric material for example.
- the strap (19) thus arranged as a whole constitutes the control means (M2) for placing the back of the bag and the harness in relative position.
- the strap (19) has over a part of its length substantially at the point of passage and bypass of the return means (10) a graduated scale (22) according to a predetermined pitch and thus defining relative positions of the back of the bag in relation to the harness.
- This graduated scale (22) is visible to the wearer and a locating index (23) can be established on the aforementioned return means (10) making it possible to establish the reference base.
- the upper deflection means (10) is arranged to receive a protective cover (24) of the entire locking mechanism (15).
- This protective cover (24) is mounted fixed or articulated on the return means, and it is made of any suitable material. It has on its front face (24a) a vertical window (24b) which is likely to be opposite the strap (19) and its graduated scale in particular. The cover then presents the reference index
- the wearer can therefore perfectly visualize the graduated area of the strap (19), and memorize the appropriate graduations corresponding to specific positions of the back of the bag relative to the harness.
- This arrangement is practical, the adjustment being rapid, all the more if there are several different carriers of the backpack, or if there are, as a result of improper handling, modifications of adjustment.
- the graduated scale can be numeric, alphanumeric or other.
- the solution for using the strap (19) is practical for a more suitable industrial implementation of the invention. However, all of the implementations of the invention applying the concept of the invention on the connecting belt and of the locking / unlocking mechanism in position thereof can be used.
- the wearer can adjust and optimize, in a micro-metric manner, the positioning of the back of the bag relative to the carrying harness by playing on the two loops at his disposal. This adjustment is made when the backpack is carried by the hiker, without there being a need for the latter to put it down.
- the installation is easy to carry out and simple in its implementation.
- the solution provided makes it possible to offer better comfort to the wearer who can adjust his bag position in all circumstances and immediately.
- the control of the position of the back of the bag relative to the harness also presents a comfort of use.
- control means namely the loops
- the control means can also be arranged on the sides of the carrier, only the positioning and displacement circuits of the control means being arranged.
- the traction cables can alternatively be established in the form of straps, hooks, cords or the like, for the same function.
