Definitions
- the present invention relates to a watch having a case which contains a electronic clock movement and an electric battery comprising at least a battery or at least an accumulator, the box having a lower opening circular which allows to insert and extract the battery and which is closed so waterproof by a removable cover provided with bayonet fixing means, the cover comprising a plate, which covers a housing for the battery and forms at least part of the bottom of the box, and an annular part substantially cylindrical which extends perpendicular to said plate and fits into said opening, said annular part carrying at least two latches forming part of the bayonet fixing means.
- the removable cover that closes the hatch giving access to the battery can either constitute the bottom of the watch case itself, or close the opening formed in a bottom itself fixed to the middle of the box or made in one piece with this build.
- electrical battery we mean here a source electrical energy which may include one or more single-use batteries, or one or more rechargeable batteries.
- the invention applies particularly, but not exclusively, to watches electronic comprising one or more additional devices which consume electrical energy, such as for example a communication device by radio, optical or acoustic transmission, a measuring device using a sensor pressure or other, a navigation device, an electronic camera, an agenda electronics, etc.
- a communication device by radio optical or acoustic transmission
- a measuring device using a sensor pressure or other e.g., a GPS device
- a navigation device e.g., a GPS navigation device
- an electronic camera e.g., a navigation device
- agenda electronics etc.
- the energy consumption of these devices additional need to include in the watch a fairly large electric battery, comprising either several batteries or accumulators, or a battery or accumulator large size.
- the opening necessary in the bottom of the box to give access to this battery can then become very large and extend over the majority, even the entire bottom surface.
- the removable cover closing this opening is fixed by a bayonet system, the dimensions of the elements of this system and associated sealing
- Patent application EP 272 515 describes a wristwatch of the kind indicated in the preamble above and having at the rear a large cover to give access to the electric heater.
- the circular opening at the bottom of the box has a significantly larger diameter large that the diameter of the circle circumscribed to the assembly formed by the movement clock and battery.
- the bayonet fixing means are arranged in outside this circle, at a level above the underside of the movement.
- the cylindrical annular part of the cover serves to stiffen the latter and to bring to its top the latches of the bayonet fixing device, which are directed towards the outside to be able to hang on the inside edges of the middle part of the box. Sealing around the opening is ensured in a conventional manner, by means of a O-ring placed in a groove on the underside of the middle part and compressed axially by the cover.
- the present invention relates to a watch arranged so as to avoid in to a large extent the aforementioned drawbacks, particularly in order to be able to limit the size of the cover in relation to the circle circumscribed to the battery when the latter is particularly bulky, for example when it comprises several batteries or Accumulators.
- a watch of the kind indicated in the preamble in which said cover latches extend towards the inside of the annular part substantially cylindrical of the cover and cling to shoulders of at least a fixed element mounted in the box, said shoulders being inside said annular part when the cover is fixed to the box.
- the arrangement of the locks towards the inside of the annular part of the cover advantageously allows the packing to be arranged around this annular part, so that the lining is pressed radially against a circular surface forming the periphery of said opening, in particular a surface substantially cylindrical.
- the opening may further have a flared entry for ensure radial compression of the seal during installation of the cover.
- This arrangement of the packing takes up very little space in radial direction and therefore makes it possible to significantly reduce the width of the cover by compared to the prior art cited above. Thanks to the radial compression of the lining, tightness is guaranteed even if the cover has not been turned fully when it has been in place, and moreover compression of the lining practically does not induce extra effort on locks.
- gripping means are arranged on a peripheral part of the cover so as to allow a user to manually operate the cover without special tool.
- Figure 1 shows in perspective a wristwatch 1 comprising a box 2 of non-circular shape, closed above by a glass 6 arranged above a dial for an analog display of the time using hands 4 and 5 driven by an electronic watch movement.
- the dial can also have a window for a digital or alphanumeric display 7.
- One or several control members 8 are arranged on the box.
- the wristwatch can be put around the wrist by means of two strands of bracelet 10 and 11 attached to the middle of the box 2 and joined by a clasp of known type.
- FIG 2 we can see more particularly the underside of the watch case 2.
- this is made of a one-piece construction comprising a middle part 13 and a base 14, in which is formed a circular opening 15 serving as an access hatch to the electric heater (not shown in this figure).
- the peripheral wall of the opening 15 has a circular surface 16 substantially cylindrical.
- the case back of the watch case 2 is equipped attachment members 17 and 18 allowing it to be attached to the strands 10 and 11 of the bracelet.
- the opening 15 is sealed off by a cover removable circular 20 which, in the view of FIG. 2, has been removed to reveal a battery holder 22 fixedly mounted inside the box 2.
- the cover 20, when it is placed in the opening 15, is fixed to the support 22 by a fixing device of the bayonet type, which will be described in detail below.
- the support 22 has two circular housings 23 and 24 for two batteries together forming the electric battery intended to supply the contained circuits in the watch.
- the box and the lid are preferably metallic, but other materials are possible.
- FIGs 3 and 6 show in more detail the internal structure of the watch and the main components of it. The details of the cover 20 will be described in reference to Figures 4 and 5.
- This additional device can be of one of the types mentioned above and include, for example, one or more circuits integrated 38 and memories 39. It is supplied with electrical energy, just like the components mounted on the board 33, by the electric battery formed by the two batteries 41 and 42 housed in the support 22 and connected in series using blades metal integrated into this support, which is made of insulating synthetic material. In order to simplify the drawing, the electrical connections between the batteries 41 and 42, the support 22, card 37 and card 33 are not shown. Of course, we could also provide separate power supplies, one of the batteries supplying the mounted components on card 33 and the other the components mounted on card 37.
- the removable cover 20 comprises a circular plate 44 which covers all the opening 15 at the bottom of the box and which has a peripheral part 45 thicker than its central part. This peripheral part forms a rim which is applied against the flat underside 46 of the bottom 14 of the box, when the cover 20 is in position closing.
- Two notches 47 are formed in the outer face of the part device 45 to allow a user to manually rotate the cover by means of his nails or a common object, for example a key or a buckle of the watch strap clasp.
- knurling could be provided as a means of manual grip on the peripheral part of the cover.
- an electro-acoustic transducer 48 preferably composed of piezoelectric elements, is glued to the central part of the plate 44 in order to make it vibrate, to transmit an acoustic and / or tactile signal to the wearer of the watch.
- a bead 49 is provided around the transducer 48 for improve the vibration regime of the plate 44.
- the cover 22 includes a part annular 50 substantially cylindrical, the outer face of which has a groove 51 to receive an annular seal 52 formed in this case by a seal elastomer ring. To reduce friction, this joint can be made of a material self-lubricating.
- the groove 51 is closed upwards by a flat metal washer 54 which is welded at points 53 on the top of the annular part 50 of lid.
- the outer diameter of this washer is substantially equal to that of the cylindrical outer face 55 of the annular part 50.
- the washer 54 has two radially inward projecting parts which are diametrically opposite and form two locks 56 of the bayonet fixing device for the cover. In the case present, the two locks 56 are flat and located in the same plane as the rest of washer 54, but in other embodiments they could be tilted or Z-folded, as required. On the other hand, the number of locks 56 could obviously be greater than two.
- FIG. 6 shows the battery holder 22 seen from below.
- This is a room molded in rigid and insulating synthetic material, which is held in position at the inside of the watch case by pressing against the bottom 14 and using feet 60 and 61.
- each foot 61 fits into a hole blind 62 from the bottom of the box.
- this foot is integral with a protruding part 63 of the support, which clamps one of the contact blades 64 which provide the connection between the battery and the electrical circuits of the watch.
- Other blades of this kind are housed in suitable recesses of the support 22, in particular those which bear the references 65 to 67 in FIG. 6.
- the recess 67 contains one or more blades connecting the transducer 48 to its circuit ordered.
- the support 22 also serves to hold in place the removable cover 20 and it for this purpose comprises the fixed elements of the bayonet fixing device.
- These elements include two shoulders 70 and 71 located on the upper face of two edges 72 and 73 of the support 22 which are directed outwards.
- the shoulders 70 and 71 have in plan a short arc shape and they can be tilted slightly longitudinally to pull the cover towards inside the box. Above these shoulders are notches 74 and 75 respectively through which the locks 56 of the cover 20 can pass.
- the fixed elements 72 to 75 of the device for bayonet fixing, as well as free spaces 76 and 77 allowing the passage of latches 56 in the axial direction when the cover 20 is introduced into the box, are all located in places which are not occupied by the battery formed by the batteries taking place in the housings 23 and 24. If one refers to figure 2, one observes that these elements are located all the same inside a circle 80 circumscribed with the battery when it is viewed in plan. In practice, we take advantage of the fact that the whole of the battery does not have a circular shape and therefore leaves areas unoccupied inside the circumscribed circle 80. The same advantage could be put to profit, for example, if a single battery or accumulator constituting the battery had a square or rectangular shape in plan.
- the diameter of the opening 15 must be only a little larger than that of the circumscribed circle 80, to a sufficient extent to allow the thickness of I has cylindrical annular part 50 of the cover.
- the outer edge of the cover does not need to go much beyond the periphery of the opening 15, the latter can be as large as possible, given the dimensions of the bottom 14 of the box, and therefore provide access to a large battery.
- the cover 20 ensures excellent sealing of the bottom of the box in all circumstances.
- the flared entry 81 of the latter progressively crushes the lining in elastomer 52, which is then permanently compressed radially between the annular part 50 of the cover and the fixed cylindrical surface 16 even before the cover is completely pushed into the box.
- the cover While we then spin the cover to engage the locks 56 on the shoulders 70 and 71, which will pull the cover until its edge bears against the underside 46 of the bottom, the sealing conditions do not change and compression of the lining 52 does not induce no effort on the locks 56, nor on the support 22. It is obviously the same during the lid opening operation.
- FIG. 7 schematically represents an embodiment of a watch in which the removable cover 20 completely constitutes the bottom of the box shows, its peripheral part 45 covering the lower face 82 of the middle part 13 and going to be applied against it under the effect of the bayonet fixing device of the lid.
- the interior locks 56 of the cover hang on a fixed support any 83 mounted inside the box, each leaning on a shoulder 71 of a rim 73 of the support as in the previous example.
- the support 83 is held in abutment against a shoulder 84 of the middle part, for example thanks to conventional flat flanges 85 each of which is fixed to a surface lower of the support by a screw 86 and engaged in a notch 87 of the middle part 13.
- the flanges 85 are preferably located somewhere other than the components hooking 71 and 73 of the bayonet fixing device.
- Support 83 is not necessarily a battery holder, but could be formed for example by a plate from a watch movement or from a plastic container molded which contains such movement. It could also form a circle socket supporting the movement in the box 2.
- the elements 50, 52 and 54 of the bottom cover 20 are similar to those of the example in Figures 2 to 6, but obviously have a plus large diameter.
- the notches 47 of the previous example are replaced by knurling 88 on the underside of the peripheral part 45, to serve as manual gripping means allowing the user to open and close the cover without no tools.
