Definitions
- the invention relates to a protective device for a plug connection according to the preamble of claim 1.
- the RJ45 connector is a standard for IEC 60603-7 and is used worldwide for connectors in communication and data networks.
- Such a connector comprises a plug and a socket.
- the socket is usually arranged in a socket, a rack, or a so-called patch panel.
- a disadvantage of these known connectors is the fact that they are hardly suitable for industrial applications, since a secure network function under difficult environmental conditions, as they occur in the industry is not guaranteed.
- known connectors based on the RJ45 connector system may have a protection class such as the IP 67 (in accordance with standard IEC 60529), which means that the in itself very widespread and inexpensive RJ45 connector can not be used in an industrial environment, because of external influences such as vibrations or impairments caused by cooling liquids or solvents, oil and the like, and / or dirt and / or dust preventing their application.
- a protection device after the The generic term of the approach 1 is ans US 5718596 It is an object of the present invention to provide a protective device for a connector, which allows the use of known connectors in a wider field of use.
- a protective device comprising a coupling part and a plug housing for a plug to be arranged therein, wherein the coupling part has an opening for the plug, and wherein the opening is surrounded by a protruding, in particular 360 degrees, collar, wherein the collar a circumferential groove, and wherein the plug housing comprises a groove adapted adapted to the Einrastteil to connect the plug housing by means of the engaging in the groove engaging portion with the coupling part.
- the plug is configured as an RJ45 plug, wherein the plug can also be designed, for example, as an optical waveguide plug or as a universal serial bus plug, also referred to as a USB plug.
- the protective device allows a waterproof and / or dustproof connection of the plug housing with the coupling part.
- the coupling part can be designed as a component of the socket.
- the coupling part is designed flange-shaped.
- This flange-shaped coupling part is preferably waterproof and / or dirt and dust-proof mounted in front of the socket.
- the protective device according to the invention thus makes it possible to connect the plug, in particular the RJ45 plug, securely and in compliance with the protection class IP 67 with the socket.
- the flange-shaped coupling part is made of metal or a plastic, for example. This flange-shaped coupling part also has the advantage that existing sockets can be retrofitted to the protection class IP 67.
- the flange-shaped coupling part can be configured with a relatively small dimensioned flange part, so that the bushings to be provided with it can be mutually very closely spaced.
- This flange-shaped coupling part is thus also suitable, for example, for retrofitting racks.
- the coupling part has a guide opening for the plug, which ensures a reliable plug connection.
- the connector housing has a seal arranged on the end face thereof, which rests on a plug-in connection arranged on the collar of the coupling part to seal the gap between the connector housing and the coupling part.
- the plug housing is preferably designed as a robust plastic housing.
- the protective device according to the invention thus enables an RJ45 plug-in connection which meets the protection class IP 67 and is therefore protected against water, dirt, oil and mechanical damage.
- the flange configured coupling part can be integrated with little effort in each device and in each box. It can also be mounted in front of each RJ45 socket.
- the protective device has, in addition to the sealing function, both a guide function to guide the plug safely, as well as a mechanical connection function to give the connector increased mechanical resistance. Any vibrations occurring on the connector housing are redirected by the clamping action of the seal on the coupling part, and thereby not transmitted or in only damped form on the sensitive electrical contacts of the connector. In addition, there is a strain relief of the plug, since tensile forces occurring on the cable attack on the connector housing on the coupling part.
- FIG. 1 shows a flange-shaped designed coupling part 1, which is arranged in front of a socket, not shown. From the in FIG. 2a shown front view and the in FIG. 2b shown section along the line AA details of the coupling part 1 can be seen.
- the coupling part 1 comprises a flange 1g and a collar 1a, and has a guide opening 1b with a guide 1c for laterally guiding the plug 3.
- this flange also directly to a front cover and / or a housing, in particular using conventional fastening means, such as snap-in connections or screws and using additional sealing means, such as sealing rings.
- this flange is integrated in the housing or in the front cover.
- the collar 1a has at the in FIG. 2b shown end face on a protruding bulge 1d, which forms a running on the outside of the collar 1a, 360 ° circumferential groove 1e.
- the bulge 1d is also designed to project forward over the collar 1a, so that a sealing edge 1f is formed, which, as shown FIG. 2a can be seen, rectangular extending the guide opening 1b encloses.
- the plug housing 2 with plug 3 is fed to the coupling part 1 in the direction of movement 1h.
- the collar 1a has a height above the flange 1g of, for example, between 1 mm and 5 mm.
- This height is preferably between 2 mm and 3 mm.
- the height of the collar 1a is according to the invention dimensioned so that the unlocking tab of the plug 3 protrudes in the inserted state about this collar 1a, that is accessible in each case from the outside and can be manually operated.
- a basic housing 2d has an interior designed in such a way that the plug 3 (embodied in the illustrated embodiment, an RJ45 plug) is firmly held therein.
- the base housing 2d comprises, for example, four resilient, tongue-shaped connecting means 2e, at the end of each one is arranged against inside protruding latching part 2f.
- the four connecting means 2e with latching part 2f are adapted and arranged such that each latching part 2f can engage in the groove 1e of the coupling part 1.
- An elastic, annular seal 2a is arranged lying between the connecting means 2e, and has the task of sealing the gap between the base housing 2d and the sealing edge 1f.
- locking means 2b On the base housing 2d resting a displaced in the direction of movement 2p locking means 2b is arranged, which limits the freedom of movement of the resilient connection means 2e depending on the position.
- the locking means 2e has upwardly and downwardly a protruding latching cam 2c, which is designed to engage in the latching recess 2g, so that the locking means 2b can assume two fixed predetermined basic positions relative to the basic housing 2d.
- the basic housing 2d also comprises a thread 2h, which are arranged downstream of lamellae 2i, which enclose the cable 4.
- a cable 4 enclosing sealing ring 5 is provided.
- a nut 2k with kink protection 21 can be screwed onto the thread 2h in order to connect the base housing 2d and the cable 4 firmly together and to seal them against one another.
- FIG. 3 shows the assembled connector housing 2 just before it is inserted together with the plug 3 in the coupling part 1 and the rear-mounted socket.
- the locking means 2b is retracted and is in the first basic position, so that the connecting means 2e can perform a resilient movement.
- FIG. 4 is the connector housing 2 connected to the coupling part 1 by the example, four latching parts 2f of the connector housing 2 are latched into the groove 1e.
- the seal 2a closes the gap between the sealing edge 1f and the base housing 2d.
- the connector housing 2 can be released again from the coupling part 1 by such a large tensile force on the connector housing 2d or the cable 4 is exercised that the latching parts 2f slide out of the groove 1e by the resilient connecting means 2e spread outwards.
- An unintentional spreading of the connecting means 2e is prevented by the locking means 2b is displaced in the direction 2p to the coupling part 1 toward the second home position, so that the locking means 2b, the in FIG. 5 position shown assumes.
- the protective device 6 is locked in this position.
- the resilient connection means 2e can not spread outwards, so that large tensile forces are transmitted from the connector housing 2 via the latching parts 2f to the coupling part 1.
- An advantage of this arrangement is the fact that the protective device 6 substantially or completely absorbs these tensile forces, so that these tensile forces do not act on the plug 3 or its electrical connection.
- the base housing 2d is preferably designed such that the unlocking tab 3b of the housing 2 d held in the housing 3 constantly rests on the surface of the plug 3. As a result, the unlocking tab 3b can not come into operative connection with the arrangement provided for locking in the socket. The locking between plug 3 and socket is thus not effected by the unlocking tab 3b, but by the locking of the plug housing 2 with the coupling part. 1
- the lock can be released in such a way that the locking means 2b is displaced in the direction 2P '.
- FIGS. 6, 7 and 8 A second embodiment of the inventive protection device 6 is in the FIGS. 6, 7 and 8 shown.
- the plug housing 2 is designed as an elastic hollow body which opens into a seal 2 a via a flexible bellows in order to seal the interior of the plug housing 2 against the cable 4.
- the plug housing 2 is preferably made of an elastic, soft plastic.
- the plug housing 2 at the coupling part 1 facing end face on an inwardly projecting latching part 2f which is preferably designed to be 360 degrees circumferentially, so that the latching part 2f over the entire circumference of the collar 1a in the Nut 1e is located. This results in a tight connection between the coupling part 1 and the connector housing 2.
- Coupling part 1 shown has, for example, hooks 1i, which can engage in appropriately designed openings of a female cover, so that the coupling part 1 can be very easily placed on an existing socket.
- the locking of the RJ45 plug 3 takes place in the socket in a conventional manner via the locking tab 3a, which is an integral part of the unlocking tab 3b, since the elastic connector housing 2 can hardly absorb tensile forces.
- the illustrated protection device is used such that, in a first step, as in FIG. 7 shown, the plug 3 is inserted into the coupling part 1 and the plug 3 is locked via the locking tab 3a in the socket. Then, as in Fig. 6 shown, the elastic connector housing 2 shifted to the coupling part 1 and brought the latching part 2f into engagement with the groove 1e, as shown in FIG. 8 is shown.
- the plug 3 is protected by the protective device 6, comprising the connector housing 2 and the coupling part 1, from contamination and from liquids.
- FIG. 8 shows schematically the position of the release tab 3b at the plugged into the socket connector 3. It may prove advantageous to provide the connector housing 2 with a protruding cam 2n, which is arranged so that it comes to lie below the unlocking tab 3b. In order to release the plug 3 from the socket, the plug housing 2 is pushed upwards at the point provided with the cam 2n, so that the unlocking tab 3b is lifted and the plug connection is released. Then, the plug 3 can be removed together with the connector housing 2. Also in this embodiment, the collar coupling part 1 is dimensioned such that the unlocking tab 3b is accessible from the outside and can be operated manually.
- the protective device can be combined with known plugs, in particular with a Fiber optic connector, universal serial bus connector (USB) or RJ45 connector.
