Definitions
- the invention relates to a pedal crank drive for a bicycle with two pedal cranks that are non-rotatably connected to one another via a pedal crank shaft, with a sprocket rotatably mounted on a bearing attachment of one of the two pedal cranks, and with a compression spring running in the circumferential direction between this pedal crank and an abutment for the compression spring carrying sprocket.
- the invention is therefore based on the object to design a pedal crank drive for a bicycle of the type described above with simple constructive means such that the advantages of a pressure-transmitting force transmission spring between the pedal crank and the sprocket rotatably mounted on the pedal crank for a more uniform torque distribution over a pedal crank revolution can be used without the use of additional damping springs.
- the invention achieves the stated object in that the pedal crank carrying the chain wheel engages with a projection protruding against the chain wheel in a recess of the chain wheel which forms rotary stops for this pedal crank in both circumferential directions.
- the stop-limited, spring-loaded initial position of the sprocket relative to the pedal crank allows easy adjustment of the prestress of the compression spring.
- the constructive solution to the mutual rotation limitation of the sprocket and pedal crank does not require any special additional effort, because on the pedal crank only a protrusion against the sprocket and a recess on the sprocket are provided, in which the approach engages with play in the circumferential direction.
- This game determines the possible angle of rotation between the sprocket and pedal crank, which should not exceed 10 ° and will preferably be between 7 ° and 9 °.
- the approach protruding against the sprocket also enables a force application in the central plane of the bearing for the sprocket in the stop position, which entails favorable bearing loads.
- the compression spring which is arranged laterally next to the sprocket and runs in the circumferential direction and which finds its abutment on the sprocket side, preferably in a bracket that can be screwed onto the sprocket, causes a tilting moment the sprocket about an axis transverse to its axis of rotation.
- the sprocket can be mounted on the bearing boss of the pedal crank with the help of two needle bearings, which have conical races and are installed with cone angles that open in opposite directions.
- the pedal crank carrying the chain wheel can be extended via the pedal crank shaft to a two-armed lever, two compression springs, each supported on a lever arm of the lever, diametrically opposite one another with respect to the pedal crank shaft, between the pedal crank and the sprocket are provided.
- This division into two rotationally symmetrically arranged compression springs allows the tilting moments that occur to be compensated, which allows the use of conventional roller bearings for mounting the sprocket, especially since the force limitation on the sprocket via the stop of the pedal crank protruding against the sprocket, again under advantageous load conditions, due to the stop-related rotation limitation he follows.
- Show it 1 shows a pedal crank drive according to the invention for a bicycle in a simplified side view
- Fig. 3 shows an axial section through the sprocket mounted on the pedal crank in the area of its storage on a larger scale
- Fig. 4 is a representation corresponding to FIG. 1 of a construction variant of a pedal crank drive according to the invention.
- the pedal crank drive according to the exemplary embodiment according to FIGS. 1 to 3 essentially consists of a pedal crank shaft 1 which is rotatably held in a bearing of a bicycle frame and which carries two pedal cranks 2 provided in the usual manner with pedals, and a chain wheel 3 on which at least one ring gear 4 is attached.
- the chain wheel 3 is not connected in a conventional manner to the pedal crankshaft 1 in a rotationally fixed manner, but is rotatably mounted on a bearing boss 5 of the one pedal crank 2.
- This sprocket bearing is carried out via two needle bearings 6 and 7 with tapered races 8 and 9. As can be seen in Fig. 3, these needle bearings 6 and 7 are installed so that the taper angle of the races 8 and 9 open in opposite directions.
- a pressure spring 12 is used to transmit power between the crank 2 and the sprocket 3 mounted on this crank 2, which is on the one hand on a Supporting approach 13 of the pedal crank 2 and on the other hand is supported on an abutment 14 which is formed by a bracket 15.
- This bracket 15 is screwed together with the ring gear 4 on the sprocket 3 according to FIG. 1.
- the pedal crank 2 has a projection 16 protruding against the chain wheel 3, which engages in a recess 17 of the chain wheel 3.
- the shoulder 16 of the pedal crank 2 is held in the recess 17 with play in the circumferential direction, so that the radial boundaries of the recess 17 result in rotary stops 18 and 19 for the pedal crank 2 in both circumferential directions.
- the pedal crank 2 is thus pressed against the direction of rotation 20 for forward travel against the rotary stop 18 by the compression spring 12.
- the preload of the compression spring 12 can thus also be set via an actuator 21.
- the projection 16 passing through the recess 17 results in a force attack on the chain wheel 3 with respect to the bearing of the chain wheel 3 in the region of the bearing center plane, so that favorable load conditions are set for the chain wheel bearing in the stop position of the projection 16.
- the angle of rotation of the pedal crank 2 between the rotary stops conditions 18 and 19 should not be greater than 10 ° so that the desired uniform rotation of the pedal crank drive can be ensured without using a damping spring which retards the relaxation of the compression spring 12. Since a considerable tilting moment can be exerted on the chain wheel 3 when the compression spring 12 is tensioned due to the one-sided force application by the compression spring 12, appropriate support of the chain wheel 3 must be provided both in the axial and in the radial direction, which is due to the chosen bearing arrangement Help of the needle bearings 6 and 7 with conical races 8 and 9 is achieved without special design effort.
- the pedal crank drive according to FIG. 4 does not need such needle bearings because the compression spring 12 according to FIG. 1 is replaced by two rotationally symmetrically arranged compression springs 12a, 12b.
- the pedal crank 2 is extended via the pedal crank shaft 1 to a two-armed lever 22, so that the compression springs 12a, 12b can be supported on the two arms of this two-armed lever 22.
- the abutments 14 for the compression springs 12a, 12b in the area of the sprocket 3 are formed by lugs 23 which are integrally formed on the hub 10 of the sprocket 3.
- the hub 10 interchangeably carries one or more sprockets 4 in a conventional manner.
- the use of two compression springs 12a, 12b prevents tilting moments which otherwise occur due to the one-sided spring arrangement, which enables the use of conventional roller bearings for mounting the chain wheel 3.
- the two compression springs 12a, 12b hardly bring a greater weight load with them, because the two compression springs can be dimensioned weaker and the molded projections 23 of the hub 10 of the chain wheel 3 represent a lower weight load compared to the bracket 15 according to FIG. 1.
- the function of the pedal crank drive is not affected by this division into the two compression springs 12a, 12b compared to the embodiment according to FIGS. 1 to 3.
