Definitions

  • the present invention relates to devices having a world time display device for deriving or directly displaying the local time at a plurality of locations on the planet earth, the surface of the world time display having indicia for various locations on the earth.
  • the devices mentioned above are known, for example, as wristwatches in the prior art. Although the present invention is in many respects independent of the particular application as a wristwatch, it is delineated relative to the prior art in the field of wristwatches. Wristwatches with the features mentioned above often have a conventional dial on which move an hour hand, a minute and possibly a second hand. So that the user of the wristwatch, who, for example, is in Germany, can directly read off or derive the time shift at the local time of another place on this earth with reference to the current local time (from Germany), is a display device for "world time", that is, the time at an arbitrary place of this earth, an outer ring provided, which carries a scale with different places or degrees of longitude.
  • the present invention therefore has the object to further develop the aforementioned devices so that the world time for a particular point or at least a certain region of the earth is intuitively and spontaneously readable or at least roughly estimated for certain area.
  • an article in particular a wristwatch, comprises a world-time display device comprising a rotary body, in particular a ball, wherein a drive is provided for the rotary body, which is arranged to rotate the rotary body once in 24 hours 360 degrees to turn.
  • the rotating body is to symbolize the globe from the view of the sun for the viewer.
  • the rotary body is formed as a ball. On its outer surface, it carries at least points of orientation that allow it to associate with different regions or places on this earth. For example, points and city names can be displayed.
  • a globe representation of the earth body may be used, with the continents depicted and, where appropriate, important islands such as Hawaii, Japan, England, etc. shown.
  • a cylinder-shaped rotary body can also be provided.
  • the observer will be able to see the local time of New York spontaneously at 6 pm Central European Time at a glance. At the same time he gets an idea of what time it is locally, for example in Los Angeles, or in Moscow. Because Los Angeles is on the left and Moscow further to the right of New York. Thus, a rough estimate of the local time of Los Angeles and Moscow is possible. At the same time, the observer spontaneously concludes that it is already night again in Japan, because the sun "just" does not "see” Japan.
  • lines are provided on the rotary body, marking the hourly intervals. If the rotary body has a cylindrical shape, these are parallel lines running in the north-south direction, whereas if it has a spherical shape, these are individual long-range time-zone lines. It is clear that distances other than one-hour intervals may be provided.
  • the device according to the invention also carries a further local time display device for displaying a freely definable local time.
  • a further local time display device for displaying a freely definable local time. This can be provided for example by a 12- or 24-hour dial with hour and minute or second hand with associated 12/24-hour drive, or by a digital number display.
  • the device includes a limit device for the rotary body, which is adapted to distinguish substantially one half of the rotary body visible separating from its other half, wherein the parting plane is substantially fixed and contains the shadow boundary in the twilight zone of the earth.
  • This frame part may be a mark formed by a certain part of the skirt of the rotary body in the housing, or may preferably be realized in that the rotary body is enclosed in the housing half and invisible to the viewer. This creates a visual impression for the viewer that he does not "see" more than the sun.
  • this instructive effect it is immediately clear in which areas of the earth is day, where the dusk zones are, and where it is just night. This facilitates the reading of any local time or facilitates their estimation.
  • the device according to the invention when the device according to the invention is designed as a wristwatch, at least parts of the drive of the rotary body are provided in its interior. This saves space compared to external attachment of the drive.
  • the drive includes a mechanical spring, in particular a spiral spring and the rotary body is formed as a hollow ball.
  • the invention is embodied in a modular manner encapsulated and can be embedded as a whole in the design concept of existing watches. It is advantageous if a mechanical and manual vorierder elevator of the rotary body drive is provided for it to provide the axis of rotation of the rotary body with a coupling member to an outside of the housing winding crown or the like.
  • the rotary body drive can also be provided with a coupling device for driving other, moving parts of the device, in particular for driving the abovementioned clock hands.
  • This coupling can in a preferred manner on the side facing away from the viewer in the interior of the housing, for example by a friction wheel or a perforation on the rotary body and a matching gear may be provided.
  • a 24-hour ring is provided, which is rotatably mounted, with a coupling device to a drive which rotates the ring once in 360 hours in 360 hours, in addition, a fixed local scale is provided in the Preferably concentric with the 24-hour ring is arranged and different according to different degrees of longitude.
  • the 24-hour ring is set to the local time of the viewer and is preferably mechanically coupled to the setting of the rotary ball.
  • the 24-hour ring allows the viewer to read a specific local world time directly from the ring of the Orteskala. He only has to localize the place of interest on the local scale and then read the time at the adjacent location of the 24-hour ring.
  • the reading mark can be provided fixed, for example, in the north direction.
  • the current time can be read directly at least at the hourly position in the 12 o'clock position, ie the north direction. New York would then be 6 hours delayed counterclockwise marked on the local scale, ie in the west direction. So that the clock can be used internationally in all countries of the world, the longitude scale can be moved in the circumferential direction and locked in a desired position.
  • the reading mark can also be provided for example by a mark in the cover glass of the clock, such as a magnifying glass or by a mark in the interior.
  • a marking object is arranged to be manually displaceable and fixable relative to the longitudinal scale. This makes it possible for a viewer to set a flag on certain Places of this earth that are not explicitly at a certain degree of longitude or that correspond to a particular location.
  • a manually rotatably trained Aufziehring (bezel), which is connected via a coupling member to the drive of the rotating body and the biasing of its drive is used.
  • the coupling member includes a gear which engages in matching teeth on the Aufziehring, wherein the gear is rigidly connected to the axis of the rotary body.
  • this is constructed of two half-shells, which can be plugged together.
  • the first gear is thus assigned to the pusher, and the second of the coupling to the setting / drive member respectively.
  • a further preferred embodiment contains a marking fixed to the rotating body at least logically associated and fixed on a longitude circumscribing ring 50.
  • the marker driven by a corresponding drive mechanism of the ring with proper translation, moves in one year from the north to the south tropic and back, giving information about the current zenith of the sun.
  • Fig. 1 In essence, the housing of a wristwatch is shown, which is developed according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention. The bracelet and its attachment is omitted for reasons of simplicity and clarity.
  • the housing 5 In the lower part of Fig. 1 the housing 5 is shown within which a movement is arranged which drives hour hand, minute hand and second hand. The movement may be constructed substantially in accordance with principles known in the art. Alternatively, a digital display may be present, wherein the housing 5 then receives the corresponding electronic components from the prior art.
  • a cover glass 10 is arranged as usual on the housing.
  • the rotary body 1 is a hollow sphere, which has a continental representation of the earth, see also Fig. 3 , The hollow ball is rotatably mounted about the axis of rotation 2.
  • the elevator mechanism for the globe 1 contains a Aufziehring 6 arranged around the watch case, which preferably consists of two annular half-shells, which can be put on each other.
  • This ring is held by a guide rail of the housing, which is not shown for reasons of clarity.
  • the Aufziehring 6 has not shown in its interior teeth, which can engage in a gear 8, the part of the drive train for the Earth globe is.
  • the gear 8 is rigidly connected to the axis 2 of the globe 1.
  • the spiral spring fixed with its inner end to the movable axis and fixed with its outer end to the inside of the spherical shell. Now, when the outer ring is rotated, the rotation is transmitted to the coil spring, which is then placed under pretension.
  • the axle tube 4 transmits the elevator movement and also forms with a gear 11 engagement points for the clock mechanism for the hands as well as for an escapement mechanism of the coil spring according to the prior art.
  • Fig. 2 which shows a schematic cross-sectional view through the equatorial line of the globe, an alternative connection of the drive for the globe with the clock mechanism and the escapement is shown: via a arranged on the outside of the globe sprocket engagement by a -Zahnrad 12 is enabled, the Coupling member for the clock mechanism and the escapement represents. Also, a perforation line on the globe may be provided to receive the gear in holes of appropriate size of the perforation and to drive the gear.
  • the globe is half enclosed in the housing, which is schematically represented by the edge 38.
  • the edge 38 is schematically represented by the edge 38.
  • This new embodiment includes a dial 36 and an hour hand 13 and a minute hand 14. These are driven by a ring mechanism which is not shown in further detail.
  • This mechanism is based on the same drive and construction principle as the 24-hour ring described above.
  • a separate ring is provided, which carries the inwardly free-standing pointer at the top.
  • the rings are concentric with each other and are concealed so that only the hands themselves are visible.
  • two rings on each of which a pointer pointing to the center of the ring is attached, mounted by balls or rollers in the housing and with each other movable.
  • the rings are equipped with recesses for this purpose.
  • the rings are provided with a sprocket into which a drive engages, which by a transmission gear from the drive wheel 11 (s. Fig. 4 ) or 12, (s. Fig. 2 ) is driven.
  • the ring mechanism is located in the housing below the globe 1.
  • this embodiment now includes a 24-hour ring 30 which is rotatably mounted, and connects with a transmission device, not shown, to the drive wheel, which rotates the ring once in 360 hours by 360 degrees.
  • the 24-hour ring 30 is also driven by the spiral spring located in the interior of the globe 1.
