Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a device and a calibration process of a multi-roller leveler.
  • Multi-roller levelers are used as as finishing tools for flattening sheets metallic steel.
  • the general principle of planing by multi-roller levelers, especially leveling under tension, consists in passing the sheet or strip to hover between two series of parallel rollers arranged so as to be nested within each other, the nesting being decreasing in the direction of sheet metal scrolling. During its passage between the rollers, the sheet is bent alternately one way then the other. The bending amplitude decreases from the entry of the leveler towards the exit, from so that the steel strip is subjected to a succession of alternating constraints suitable for removing or at least greatly reduce the internal stresses causing flatness defects.
  • the gradual decrease in the amplitude of the deformations provides the output leveler a strip as flat as possible and with the less possible internal constraints.
  • the strip is driven through the leveler between a supply reel and a reel receptor by “S” drive blocks which cause it to scroll, ensuring moreover a traction on the strip.
  • FIG. 1 there is shown schematically such a leveler, comprising a set of lower rollers 11, and a set of upper rollers 12, carried respectively by a lower bed base 13 and an upper bed base 14.
  • the band metallic 10 scrolls in the leveler between two blocks motorized 31, 32 of drive drums and traction arranged in "S", in the direction of arrow F.
  • the rollers are all parallel and offset in the direction of travel of the strip between the top and the low, so that they can be more or less nested within each other.
  • the strip is relatively strongly deformed by bending alternated between the input rollers 11a, 12a, 11b, etc. which are strongly nested, while in the area the deformations are very small because the output rollers 11m, 12m, 11n are little or not at all all nested.
  • FIG. 2 there is shown also schematically an example of ways to leveler adjustment, to adjust the nesting of rolls.
  • the upper box spring 14 is supported on a frame upper 15 by sets of adjustments 16a, 16b, 16c, 16d, for example of the screw-nut type with return angle, respectively arranged two sets 16a, 16b towards the entry of the leveler and the other two 16c, 16d towards the exit, and on each side in the direction longitudinal.
  • the two input adjustment assemblies 16a, 16b are connected by a drive shaft 17a and a coupling 18a, and driven together by a motor entry 19a.
  • the two sets of adjustment of output 16c, 16d are connected by a drive shaft 17b and a coupling 18b, and driven together by a output motor 19b.
  • the couplings 18a, 18b allow temporarily uncoupling the sets of settings that they link, to be able to adjust the parallelism transverse, or "wobbling", between the rollers lower and upper, and this as input as exit from leveler. Then the adjustment of the nests rollers of the leveler is carried out by means of motors that drive simultaneously and so identical to the adjustment sets, either at the input of leveler, or exit.
  • the parallelism or sway adjustment is not carried out only in the event of major interventions on the leveler.
  • Calibration of the leveler is carried out more commonly, to readjust the nestings of the rollers, or modify them according to the characteristics of the planed bands.
  • FIG 3 there is also shown schematically the leveler, in front view, for show the means of adjusting the bending or bending rollers.
  • the leveling rollers are actually supported by support rollers, themselves supported by backing rollers.
  • This set is mounted in a chassis called cassette placed on a set of shims bias or actuators or even against supports independent and adjustable in height, distributed over the width of the leveler.
  • the position vertical support rollers can be adjusted to 22 adjustable wedges, each acting under all of the support rollers located on a same line parallel to the running of the strip and on the entire length of the leveler.
  • the shape of the rollers gliders therefore depends on the vertical position of the rollers of counter support.
  • FIG. 5 An example of an adjustable counter-support system is shown in Figure 5.
  • the height of the counter-support is adjustable by means of wedges 23 interposed between the support rollers and a frame rigid lower 15 'and sliding one over the other.
  • the relative displacement of the bias wedges is effected by a cylinder 24, and can be measured for example by a sensor position 25.
  • the object of the present invention is to resolve the problems previously mentioned. It aims in particular to allow to determine with better precision the characteristics of a multi-roller leveler, performing a load, reproducible and under calibration known efforts. It also aims to determine the ceding of the overall leveler, under different loads, so that these values can be integrated into setting models. It still aims to determine with more precision the influences of the settings of counter-supports, so as to fine-tune the settings of these and be able to correct the transverse ceding of soaring rollers, to finally get a better flatness of the planed strips.
  • the object of the invention is a device for calibrating a multi-roller leveler for planing a metal strip, comprising an assembly of lower rollers and a set of rollers upper, arranged substantially parallel, perpendicular to the leveling direction according to which scrolls the strip to be leveled.
  • the device is characterized in what it has a metal measuring plate, especially with high elastic limit, of suitable size to be positioned between the roller assembly upper and lower roller assembly in extending substantially over the entire length of said rollers, the said plate comprising means for positioning to ensure its positioning by relative to the rollers in the leveling direction, and strain gauges to measure strains elastic of the plate, the so-called strain gauges being fixed on the plate so as to form several transverse rows of gauges each located at plumb with one of the said rollers, on the face of the plate opposite the said roller.
  • the invention also relates to a method of calibration of a multi-roller leveler, using the device according to the invention, characterized in that places the measuring plate in the leveler, positioned by means of positioning so that each gauge row is located directly above a roller, and the two sets of rollers are brought together, one of the other so as to exert a clamping force on the measuring plate, and we measure by means of said gauges the deformations undergone by the plate to the right of each roller located directly above the gauges, to deduce the clamping force applied by the rollers to the right of each gauge, as well as the actual tightening between rollers.
  • strain gauges placed vertically rollers we can measure the deformations of bending of the surface of the plate, caused by the support rolls on the plate, and deduce from it, knowing the mechanical characteristics of the plate, the intensity support force at each gauge. From of these measures, so we can have knowledge specifies the characteristics of the leveler, from the point of view of the geometry of the leveling path defined between the rolls.
  • the plate has at least one row of gauges located so to be placed directly above one of the rollers located towards the entry of the leveler, and a row of gauges located so as to be placed directly above one of the rollers exit.
  • We can thus determine the clamping forces in and out of the leveler, for example accordingly initialize the command motors of the position of the upper box spring, in a position corresponding to identical tightening at input and output, to then be able to assess the tightening gap real between input and output, and therefore the difference nesting between the input rollers and the output rollers. Note that we will not place the gauges to the right of the first roller, upper or lower, nor to the right of the last upper roller or lower, so measurements will only be made to the right of rolls loaded only substantially vertically.
  • a row of gauges has at least one gauge located in the center line and a gauge on each side towards the edges of the leveler, which makes it possible to determine, and therefore to correct, if necessary, differences in tightening between the sides of the leveler. In combination with measures mentioned above, it becomes possible to detect, and therefore also correct, swaying of the leveler.
  • a row of gauge has a central gauge and several gauges lateral, arranged so as to be each located at plumb with each counter-support of the leveler.
  • the invention also makes it possible to understand the glider behavior under load, determining the overall clamping force in different positions measured by the tightening control means, and deducing a yield curve from the leveler, which can then be taken into account to perform the presets for work, depending on dimensional and mechanical characteristics of the bands to hover, and depending on the importance of nesting rollers required to correct known defects said bands, for example.
  • the overall clamping force determined from all the measurements made by all the gauges we could also appreciate variations in tightening more localized, to distinguish for example the cedage clean of each column of the leveler, or to follow independently the behavior of the counter-supports during load variations.
  • the instrumented plate according to the invention is typically a high-grade steel plate elastic limit, for example of 1000 MPa, and of thickness for example of the order of 0.7 mm, in any case of thickness very much higher than that of the bands to be leveled, which typically have a thickness of 0.1 to 0.2 mm per example.
  • the means of positioning have at least two sets of positioning gauge respectively arranged towards each side edge of the plate, the farthest possible from each other, directly below the same roller, to precisely determine the positioning of the plate relative to this roller in the leveling direction, and therefore the relative position of all rows of measurement gauges relative to their respective rolls.
  • the positioning gauges are preferably gauges of the type known as "chains", conventionally constituted under the form of a set of five strain gauges associated online over a global length of the order of centimeter. Each chain is precisely glued on the face of the plate opposite to a working roller, so that the center line of the chain gauge is perfectly in line with the axis of said roller.
  • the positioning of the plate is done in observing the signals from each gauge of the chain, until a symmetry is obtained on the gauges located on each side of the central gauge of a part and until detection of a maximum by the gauge central on the other hand, significant of the location of this one just below the axis of the roller, where the curvature of the plate is most pronounced.
  • the instrumented plate 5 given by way of example and produced for a particular type of multi-roller leveler, shown in Figure 6 is typically a plate made of sheet steel with high elastic limit, thickness 0.7 mm and 500 mm in the direction of leveling and 1 m in the transverse direction. She wears several rows of gauges deformation 50 bonded to the surface of the sheet, as follows:
  • a first row 51 of gauges is located on the upper side, to be positioned directly above the second lower roller 11b, as shown in the figure 7.
  • a second row 52 of gauges is placed so similar to the penultimate penultimate roll inferior.
  • a third row 53 is preferably placed at the level of a median roller of the series of roller.
  • Each of these rows has seven gauges, such that the gauges 51a, 51b, 51c, 51f, 51i, 51j, 51k, of the first row, respectively placed directly above the counter-supports 22a, 22b, 22c, 22f, 22i, 22j, 22k.
  • gauges are placed opposite bottom of plate 5, such as a row of 54 gauges placed directly above the second upper roller 12b, a row 55 placed directly above the penultimate upper roller, and a row 56 placed vertically of a middle roller of the series of upper rollers.
  • Each of these rows comprises for example three gauges, placed respectively in line with the counter-supports 22b, 22f, and 22d.
  • gauges of positioning 61, 62 made up of chains of five gauges aligned in the leveling direction, of the type known per se, and whose central gauge is located precisely on line 54.
  • the plate 5 also has two stops adjustable 60, each comprising a fixed part 63 secured to plate 5 and a movable part 64 adjustable relative to the fixed part, for example by a micrometric screw, the end of which is positioned so as to abut against the first lower roller, as shown in figure 7.
  • the tightening measurements can then be carried out means of the various gauges.
  • Such a yield curve can then be integrated in the adjustment parameters of the leveler.
  • the graph in Figure 9 shows, by example, the profile of the rollers entering a leveler.
  • Route 71 corresponds to an adjustment of the counter-supports at 0; plot 72 at a setting at -0.05 mm; route 73 to an adjustment to -0.1 mm.
  • Each point of the plots corresponds to a measurement gauge, and the values indicated in ordered represent the clamping of the rollers on the plate, determined from the measurements made.
  • the invention is not limited to the mode of realization of the instrumented plate described above only as an example.
  • the number and the arrangement of the rows of gauges and the number of gauges per row may be modified, depending on the number of leveler rollers, number of counter supports and desired actions.
  • the gauges positioning as well as the adjustable stops can be replaced by equivalent means specific to ensure the most precise positioning possible of rows of measuring gauges directly above the rollers.
