Definitions

  • the invention relates to a method for suppressing incipient explosions using an extinguishing device, in the housing (8) of which a pyrotechnic gas generator (1) and a container (5) of an extinguishing agent (6) closed with bursting membranes (3, 4) are provided, wherein the extinguishing agent (6) is ejected with the help of the compressed gas generated by the gas generator (1) and distributed to the side by the gas jet following at the speed of sound and is also accelerated forward.

  • No. 5,305,957 proposes to equip an extinguishing device with a liquid extinguishing agent, a long, tubular acceleration section and a gas generator with a low delivery pressure of approximately 10 bar. Although a high exit velocity of the extinguishing agent is achieved, the lateral spread of the extinguishing agent jet remains low and the droplet decay only takes place at a greater distance in front of the device due to the velocity-dependent air resistance. This extinguishing device is therefore only suitable for point-specific fire fighting.

  • the explosion is thus intercepted and suppressed well before its maximum formation. This effectively prevents major damage such as the destruction of the container or room to be protected and the fire spreading after the explosion.
