Definitions
- the invention relates to a fuel supply control system for an engine with a plurality of cylinders and one Fuel supply unit to control the respective Amount of fuel delivered depending on the cylinder Control unit supplied control signals, and one Control unit for generating these control signals and a Method of controlling fuel delivery at a multiple Cylinder engine.
- a fuel delivery control system will become available the fuel supply to an engine with a Controls a plurality of cylinders.
- a fuel supply unit which are formed, for example, by an injection pump can, depending on by a control unit generated control signals fuel to each of the cylinders.
- the electronic control unit determines one for each cylinder Cylinder ignition value, which depends on the quality of the combustion depends on the respective cylinder.
- the cylinder ignition value is with a limit value and the fuel supply is in Dependence on this cylinder ignition value only for the cylinders prevented, for which the comparison is an incomplete Combustion results. There can be a maximum number cylinders which can be deactivated at the same time are provided.
- the cylinder ignition value is preferably a Engine acceleration value, which from one by one Crankshaft sensor generated crankshaft position value is derived.
- a cylinder is switched off, so it preferably remains for a predetermined period of time preferably by a predetermined number of firing cycles is determined, switched off. After this time the Cylinders are then supplied with fuel normally again, so that it can ignite normally.
- a fuel supply control system 10 controls the Fuel supply to an engine 12 having a plurality of Injectors or fuel injectors 14-24, which fuel to a plurality of cylinders 26-36 deliver.
- Fuel is delivered to the fuel injectors 14 - 24 by an injection pump or a Fuel supply unit 38, for example an electronic one controlled radial piston injection pump, such as that from Bosch is manufactured, delivered, which an individual control the injectors 14-24 and the cylinders 26-36 allowed.
- the fuel supply unit 38 could be one High-pressure common rail unit or by injection units (unit injectors) or electro-hydraulic Injection units are formed.
- 1 shows an engine 12 with six cylinders 26-36 shows the present Invention can be used on any engine that more than has a cylinder.
- An engine control unit based on a microprocessor (ECU) 40 provides control signals to the fuel supply unit 38.
- the engine control unit 40 works with the fuel supply unit 38 and the injectors 14-24 together to provide fuel to cylinders 26-36 of the Motors 12 as a function of several determined parameters and determine inputs that can be entered by an operator, how a Focus TM control unit does so far used John Deere engines in production has been. How the Focus TM control unit calculates the Engine control unit 40 the amount of fuel to the next igniting cylinders 26-36 to be fed, and causes that the fuel supply unit 38 indicates this amount of fuel supplies the cylinder 26-36 to be ignited.
- the engine control unit 40 generates depending on one Coolant temperature signal from a coolant temperature sensor 42, a crankshaft position signal of a crankshaft sensor 44, an intake air temperature signal from an intake air temperature sensor 46 and a fuel temperature signal Fuel temperature sensor 48 control signals.
- a motoring mode or a function 115 which supplies fuel to all Cylinders under certain conditions, such as a Delay, prevents.
- the Engine control unit 40 also continuously maintains a cylinder index value N on which the particular cylinder which is currently in Ignition process is indicating.
- the engine control unit 40 also repeatedly runs algorithms 100 and 200, which correspondingly through the flow diagrams of FIGS. 2 and 3 are reproduced, once for each cylinder to be ignited out. Transferring these flowcharts into one Standard language for implementing the through the Algorithms described in a digital flowchart Computer or a microprocessor is used for the usual Be obvious to a professional.
- the cylinder index value N is represented by engine control unit 40 outside of algorithms 100 and 200 as a function of the crankshaft position signal of the Crankshaft sensor 44 set.
- the normal controller or operating mode can preferably be as the normal engine governor-controlled operating state of the engine 12 can be determined and represents one from a start state, Fuel limit or torque curve operating condition and a stop mode deviating operating state.
- step 112 sets the index value NC of the cylinders to be switched off to zero, since none Cylinder will be shut off when the engine 12 is normal is operated.
- step 112 also sets the number Injection events NF to be switched off for all cylinders Zero and sets the cylinder factor CF to 1 for all cylinders, and step 114 enables a normal mode of operation (Cylinder deactivation deactivated).
- the normal operating mode includes several common engine operating modes including one Startup mode 115, in which fuel is supplied to all cylinders is ended, as in the case of deceleration of the engine 12.
- the cylinder shutdown algorithm 200 is on Result of steps 106 and 110 activated when the Engine speed in a range from about 700 to 1900 rpm lies, but these speeds are purely exemplary are and can be changed without the invention departing.
- algorithm 200 goes to step 202 occurred whenever algorithm 100 step 116 executes and the cylinder deactivation is activated.
- these values are set within the algorithm 200, reduced or increased and these changed values continue be set and used by algorithm 200 until the Algorithm 100 in turn deactivates cylinder deactivation and the values are reinitialized by step 112.
- Step 204 compares NF (N) to zero and if NF (N) does not is zero (i.e. that cylinder N was deactivated) step 210 decreases the count NF (N) by 1 and step 212 sets CF (N) to zero (to cause the Nth cylinder is switched off).
- NF (N) is not equal to zero, i.e. that the Nth cylinder less than CO or 50 times, for example has been turned off and step 214 directs the subroutine Step 222 so that the Nth cylinder due to Step 212 will be switched off.
- NF (N) is zero in step 214 is, i.e. the Nth cylinder indicates the maximum number allowed Paint, CO, has been turned off, and step 214 the subroutine to step 216, which decrements NC by 1 (by to indicate that the number of cylinders to be deactivated is reduced is set) and CF (N) to 1, so that the Nth cylinder during the next firing order is ignited (not switched off) and then returns the subroutine via step 222.
- step 206 if NF (N) is zero (i.e. if the Nth cylinder is not switched off will be) EA equal to a calculated engine acceleration value set and step 208 compares EA to one Acceleration limit AT.
- EA NF (N) is zero (i.e. if the Nth cylinder is not switched off will be)
- step 208 compares EA to one Acceleration limit AT.
- step 208 Acceleration limit AT
- EA in step 208 is not greater than AT
- Step 218 compares the number of cylinders which are turned off, NC, with a maximum number of MNC, like for example half of the total number of cylinders of the Motors 12. If NC is not less than MNC in step 218, this means that no additional cylinder has to be switched off and the algorithm is directed to step 222. If in Step 218 NC is less than MNC, it means that additional cylinders can be switched off and the The algorithm is directed to step 220.
- Step 220 sets the Index value NF (N) is CO, the number of times (for example 50) a cylinder should be turned off after a misfire has been determined. Step 220 also reduces NC by 1 (to indicate that another cylinder is switched off will) and sets CF (N) equal to zero, making the cylinder N during the next firing order of cylinders 26-36 will be switched off.
- control unit 40 determines whether a particular cylinder or certain cylinders misfire and switch only those Cylinders that misfire, at most half of the Cylinder is deactivated. As a result, this system switches not automatically a predetermined, selected group of Cylinders, but instead determines which cylinder (s) really misfired by the amount of acceleration of the Crankshaft is measured and only switches the fuel supply to the misfiring cylinders.
- the acceleration and the Misfire is caused by the use of a crankshaft sensor 44 and the measurement of the time between the pulses of the Crankshaft sensor 44 determined. Once it was determined that a particular cylinder does not ignite, the cylinder becomes for a certain number of firing sequences switched off. After Number of firing sequences becomes the normal one in the cylinder Amount of fuel injected (steps 214, 216 and 222).
