Definitions
- the invention is in the field of anti-corrosion treatment of surfaces of steel, galvanized or alloy galvanized steel or of aluminum or its alloys.
- the process can serve as an independent anti-corrosion treatment before painting and can be used, for example, instead of iron phosphating.
- the method is also suitable for post-treating non-layer-forming or layer-forming phosphated metal surfaces.
- it is suitable for a corrosion-protective aftertreatment of components such as, for example, automobile bodies, which were produced from pre-phosphated material.
- the phosphate layer on cut edges or on grinding points is removed or damaged.
- Such areas have weakened corrosion protection.
- the aftertreatment of such components according to the invention on the one hand enhances the corrosion protection effect of the existing phosphate layer and on the other hand causes spots with removed or damaged phosphate layer to be coated with a corrosion protection layer.
- the components can then be painted.
- EP-B-713 540 teaches an aqueous treatment solution for metal surfaces which contain as essential components: a) fluorometallate anions of the elements titanium, zirconium, hafnium, silicon, aluminum and boron, b) cations of selected metals, for example copper, c) phosphorus containing inorganic oxo anions and / or phosphonate ions and d) water-soluble or water-dispersible polymer.
- WO 97/02369 discloses aqueous solutions for the treatment of aluminum surfaces which contain a) phosphate ions, b) titanium ions or titanium compounds, c) fluoride ions or fluorine-containing compounds and d) an accelerator. It can be assumed that fluorine complexes of titanium form from components b) and c). Oxidizers are selected as accelerators, selected from nitrite, nitrate, tungstate, molybdate, permanganate and water-soluble organoperoxides.
- the invention relates to a method for the corrosion-protective treatment or aftertreatment of bare or phosphated surfaces of steel, galvanized or alloy-galvanized steel or of aluminum or its alloys, the metal surfaces being brought into contact with an aqueous solution which a) 0.05 to 10 g / l complex fluorides of boron, silicon, titanium and / or zirconium and b) one or more phosphating accelerators selected from 0.05 to 2 g / l m-nitrobenzenesulfonate ions,
- the method according to the invention can be used as a corrosion protection method for a bare metal surface, which is then coated immediately or, if appropriate, after a longer period of transport and / or storage.
- This provides an alternative for conventional non-layer-forming iron phosphating, which is similarly simple in terms of process technology and which offers advantages in terms of corrosion protection compared to iron phosphating.
- the process for Post-treatment suitable for non-layer-forming and in particular layer-forming phosphated metal surfaces. It thus represents an alternative to the still widespread aftertreatment processes with chromium (VI) -containing solutions.
- the aftertreatment according to the invention leads to improved corrosion protection.
- the method is particularly suitable for the aftertreatment of components such as, for example, automobile bodies, which have been produced from pre-phosphated material.
- areas that have no or a damaged phosphate layer are adequately protected against corrosion so that they can then be painted.
- Aftertreatment of a zinc phosphate layer with the process according to the invention makes it possible to use solutions for zinc phosphating which contain little or no nickel.
- Such phosphating systems have disadvantages with regard to paint adhesion and corrosion protection on certain materials compared to nickel-containing phosphating systems. These disadvantages are compensated for by an aftertreatment with the method according to the invention. It is therefore possible to use a nickel-free or low-nickel phosphating process in connection with the aftertreatment process according to the invention. In this way, the advantages of the nickel-free zinc phosphating process with regard to wastewater treatment and sludge disposal can be exploited without having to accept the disadvantages of a nickel-free process.
- Solutions are preferably used that contain complex fluorides of titanium and / or zircon. If the process for a belt treatment is used as a "no-rinse process", contents of complex fluorides in the range from 1000 to 10000 mg / l are preferred. If components are treated for a longer period of time, which are subsequently rinsed, contents of complex Fluorides in the range from 100 to 1000, in particular 150 to 500 mg / l are preferred.
- Phosphating accelerators of group b) are known as components of a layer-forming phosphating, in particular a zinc phosphating. They have the property of supporting the formation of a desired fine-crystalline, closed phosphate layer.
- component b) 50 to 1000 mg / l m-nitrobenzenesulfonate ions, 1 to 10 g / l organic N-oxides, preferably N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide or 0.5 to 10 g / l, preferably 0.8 to 5 g / l hydroxylamine in free or bound form.
- hydroxylamine as such, as a salt, in particular as a sulfate or phosphate, or in the form of a hydroxylamine-releasing compound can be used.
- Hydroxylamine is preferably used as such or as sulfate.
- the acid-base balance between free hydroxylamine and hydroxylammonium ions is established.
- an additional use of 50 to 2000 mg / l, preferably 100 to 1000 mg / l, of fluoride ions can offer advantages due to their complexing action for the metals mentioned.
- the treatment solution can contain further metal ions, in particular those which are known as components of zinc phosphating or of rinse solutions after zinc phosphating.
- Preferred metal ions are: Zn (ll), Mn (ll), Ce (III), Ca (II), Ni (II), Ag (III) and Pd (II). Their concentrations are preferably 0.3 to 3 g / l each.
- the pH of the treatment solution for the process according to the invention is preferably set to a range from 2 to 5.5, in particular from 3.5 to 5. If necessary, the pH can be lowered to the desired range by using the free acids of components a), and in the case of excessively acidic solutions to the desired range by adding alkali metal hydroxide, alkali metal carbonate or ammonia.
- This embodiment takes into account the development that more and more pre-phosphated material is used, for example, for the construction of vehicles and household appliances. This is supplied in tape form to the component manufacturer. This cuts the strip into pieces, which are formed and assembled into the desired components, for example by welding or flanging. While car bodies made of pre-phosphated material are phosphated again in the automotive industry, household appliances made of pre-phosphated material are cleaned after assembly if necessary, but no longer phosphated.
- a complex phosphating system could also be dispensed with in the automotive industry if the bodies made of pre-phosphated material require cleaning and a one-step aftertreatment before painting in order to achieve the required corrosion protection. Description
2) HAS = Hydroxylammoniumsulfat, Ludigol = m-Nitrobenzolsulfonat, MOON = N-Methylmorpholin-N-oxid
3) Vergl. 1, Vergl.
