Definitions
- the invention relates to an alarm device and / or control for a diesel engine, in particular for a vehicle automobile.
- a diesel engine is supplied with pressurized fuel thanks to a pump supply circuit.
- the pump fills with air and, trapped air prevents suction liquid fuel.
- the invention results from the observation that this driver alert using single minimum level indicator is insufficient to avoid the defusing incident of the pump, linked to the breakdown. Indeed, the driver knowing that it can still travel a comfortable distance - by example of the order of a good hundred kilometers - from the minimum level warning light comes on, its vigilance is not not maximum and loosening of attention can cause it to drive until the fuel tank is empty.
- a means is provided for alerting the driver of the vehicle the risk of incident when the level of the fuel drops below a second level, substantially lower than the first minimum level.
- the risk alert for defusing the fuel system pump will be supplied that a relatively short time (or a relatively short distance low) before the incident is likely to actually happen, so that this second alert occurs infrequently. Indeed, if the distance remaining was too great after this second alert, the driver would also risk going there accustom, which would relax his vigilance.
- the alert for the risk of the pump priming may consist of a light or sound signal. She may also consist of a command to decrease performance of the engine, its idling, or its complete stop. These various commands can also intervene successively: engine performance is first decreased, then it is idled, and finally stopped before the pump is primed. When we plan a light or sound alert, this can also occur before or during the automatic performance decrease command of the motor.
- the invention is not limited to a Diesel engine for motor vehicle. It applies to all the uses of diesel engines since it allows stopping automatic or manual engine just before the (or the) fuel system pump (s) fills with air.
- a distance and / or distance counter is provided fuel consumption from the first level and the alert risk of defusing is triggered when the distance traveled and / or consumption since this first level, reached a specified limit.
- At least one signal is used measurement or control of this regulation.
- the error signal (the difference between a real value and a value filling or pressure regulation) exceeds a limit value and / or the control signals of the regulation have instabilities.
- the latter type of detection is preferably used in order to trigger the performance decrease, the engine idling or stopping.
- this difference indicates immediate proximity of the area at real risk of defusing.
- the command means to avoid defusing the pump is performed only when the risk is imminent. So with a normally attentive and careful driver, this order will occur very rarely, which will attract all the more attention when it occurs.
- a common rail diesel engine has a conduit in which the fuel arrives under high pressure, solenoid valves connecting this conduit to each of cylinders, and means for controlling these solenoid valves allow provide each cylinder with the optimum amount of fuel at the optimal time and with optimal pressure.
- the second level detection means are put into operation only after detection of the first level.
- the invention thus relates to a device for alerting the proximity of an incident in a diesel engine vehicle, which is characterized in that the incident being the risk of defusing at least one fuel supply pump, it comprises means for detecting that the fuel level has gone down below a second level, significantly lower than first minimum level from which an alarm is triggered advising the filling of this tank.
- a means is, for example, provided for reducing performance of the engine, this means being triggered by the means of detection.
- a means is provided for imposing engine idling speed when the detection means indicates the proximity of the incident.
- the detection means comprises means for detecting the distance traveled from the detection of the first minimum fuel level and a means to compare this distance to a predetermined limit.
- a means is provided for determining fuel consumption from the detection of the first minimum fuel level and a way to compare this consumption at a predetermined limit.
- the motor includes a regulator filling with fuel and the detection means comprises a means for monitoring a parameter of the filling regulator.
- the parameter of the filling regulator is by example the error signal, means being provided for comparing this error signal to a predetermined limit.
- the engine includes a fuel pressure regulator and detection means includes means for monitoring a parameter of this regulator pressure.
- the parameter of the pressure regulator is for example the error signal, a means being provided for comparing this signal error at a predetermined limit.
- the parameter of the pressure regulator can be the degree of pressure or current control stability of the pressure regulator.
- the sensing means can be a means to monitor the pressure in the common rail.
- the invention also relates to a device for alerting the proximity of a diesel engine power supply incident to feed pump, which characterized in that the incident being the risk of defusing at least one feed pump fuel, and the engine comprising a filling regulator or fuel pressure, it includes means for detecting an abnormal value of a regulation parameter.
- a diesel engine has a pump 10 for the fuel supply 14 (FIG. 1) of a high pump pressure 16.
- the feed pump 10 is, in the example, disposed in a reservoir 12.
- the pump 10 is arranged in the conduit 18 connecting the reservoir to the pump 16. In another variant (also not shown), it is integrated into the high pressure pump 16.
- the injection pump 16 is intended to put the fuel under a high pressure of the order of 200 to 1500 bars, depending on the operating point of the engine. It feeds a line 22 intended for injecting pressurized fuel into each of the engine cylinders by means of solenoid valves 24 1 , 24 2 , etc.
- a computer or central control member 30 is provided for controlling, on the one hand, a filling regulator 20 upstream of the pump 16, and, on the other hand, a pressure regulator 17 of the injection pump 16 thus that the instant of opening of the solenoid valves 24 1 , 24 2 , etc.
- the computer 30 also performs the usual functions a motor vehicle control unit, i.e. that it totals the distance traveled and the consumption and it controls the filling regulation and / or the regulation of pressure. To this end, the computer 30 receives a signal measurement of a pressure sensor 23 in the common rail 22 and checks the control signals of the filling regulation and / or pressure regulation 17.
- the computer 30 performs a command according to the diagram in Figure 2.
- the alarm or control function is only activated from when fuel level 14 drops below one first level which, in the simplest way, is the usual level minimum level alert, i.e. about 10% of the contents of the reservoir 12.
- This step is represented by block 32 on the Figure 2. From this step 32, the computer 30 determines distance traveled (block 34) and fuel consumption (block 36).
- the distance traveled is compared to a predetermined limit D r (block 38). If this distance traveled exceeds the limit D r , the performance of the motor is reduced (block 40).
- a predetermined limit D r for example, means are provided for reducing the maximum speed and / or limiting the speed of rotation of the engine and / or limiting the fuel supply.
- the fuel consumption is compared with a predetermined limit V r (block 42) and if the consumption exceeds the limit V r , the engine performance is also reduced.
- the computer 30 monitors (blocks 39 and 43) also the filling and / or pressure regulator 20 17 and indicates whether the regulation exhibits drifts (blocks 44 and 46). Engine performance is reduced (block 40) when such drifts occur.
- the error signal is measured, i.e. the difference between the actual value and the desired value (the instructions). If this deviation exceeds a determined limit, this deviation is an indicator of the approach to the dry breakdown and therefore to defusing of pump 10 or 16.
- the pressure difference is measured thanks to the pressure sensor 23 in the duct 22.
- the computer 30 monitors (block 48) also at minus one parameter of the pump pressure regulator 17. For example, if the pressure in this regulator 17 cannot reach the setpoint, i.e. if the difference between the actual pressure and the set pressure is greater than a predetermined value, this situation also indicates, and safely, the approach of the blackout, that is to say that the pump 10 or 16 starts sucking in air at the same time as fuel. Furthermore, in this situation, the regulation presents instabilities, the error signal undergoing strong oscillations. These instabilities also certainly provide the information that pumps 10 and 16 are about to defuse.
- a light alarm is provided on the vehicle dashboard or an audible alarm which indicates to the driver that he is near the defusing pump 10 or 16.
- the invention therefore consists in alerting (by an alarm or an action on the engine) the driver (or, more generally, the user of a Diesel engine) of the risk of incident when the fuel level drops below a second level, significantly lower than the first minimum level indicated by block 32.
- This second level can be detected by various means. Direct detection of the second level or totalization consumption (blocks 36 and 42) are not essential for this detection. Indeed, each of the various other parameters such as distance traveled (blocks 34 and 38), measurement of filling regulation drifts (blocks 44 and 46), as well as instability or drift measurements in the pressure 17 (block 48) each constitute, in themselves, indicators the fact that the tank level has dropped below second level.
