It is, however, also possible that some or all of these functions can be performed by hardware and/or software which forms part of the mobile telephone network infrastructure in which case the functions can be initiated by transmitting specific signals or digital codes from the terminal to the network base stations. For example such signals could be used to transfer the call to a network-based voice mail system.
