Definitions

  • Multi-cylinder internal combustion engine with two intake and two exhaust valves
  • the invention relates to a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine with two intake and two exhaust valves, the intake valves on the one hand and the exhaust valves on the other hand are arranged on opposite longitudinal sides of the internal combustion engine, and the intake valves and exhaust valves can be actuated by a camshaft via intake rocker arms or exhaust rocker arms.
  • both the intake rocker arms and the exhaust rocker arms are designed as fork rocker arms, one fork rocker arm actuating two valves of the same name per cylinder and in that the axes of the intake rocker arm and the exhaust rocker arm are offset from one another, preferably one above the other, with preference being given the rocker arms are rotatably mounted in a rocker arm housing mounted on the cylinder head, and wherein a bearing pin is provided per intake rocker arm, which is releasably attached to the rocker arm housing from the side of the cylinder head.
  • the available space in the rocker arm housing can be optimally used if - viewed in the axial direction - the axis of the exhaust rocker arm is arranged obliquely above the axis of the intake rocker arm per cylinder, so that the size of the cylinder head and the rocker arm housing can be significantly reduced.
  • An arrangement in which the axes of the intake rocker arms are arranged in the parting plane between rocker arm housing and cylinder head is particularly space-saving. It can in particular be provided that the exhaust rocker arms of all cylinders of a row of cylinders are mounted on a continuous bearing axis.
  • the valve axes can all be parallel to one another or can also enclose an acute angle.
  • the fork rocker arms When viewed in plan, the fork rocker arms preferably have an asymmetrical shape, as a result of which the push rods for actuating the rocker arms can be spaced relatively far apart.
  • the free space between the pushrods can be used for cylinder head bolts and the fuel supply line.
  • the axes of the intake and exhaust rocker arms are arranged on the side of the intake valves, and the intake channels and the exhaust channels of Extend the side flange surfaces on the exhaust valve side.
  • the intake manifold is arranged above the exhaust manifold, so that all gas exchange lines can be accommodated on one longitudinal side of the engine.
  • the space thus freed up on the opposite engine longitudinal side can be used to accommodate other units, for example the injection pump.
  • a preferred embodiment of the invention provides that the exhaust rocker arms of all cylinders in a row of cylinders are mounted on a continuous shaft. This makes it possible to change the timing of the exhaust valves by turning the shaft. This enables the implementation of an engine brake in a simple manner.
  • the shaft has an eccentric bearing sleeve in the region of the mounting of an exhaust rocker arm and is connected to a rotating device on an end face of the internal combustion engine.
  • a very simple and space-saving embodiment of the invention is characterized in that the bearings of the shaft are formed by bores in the rocker arm housing.
  • the stems of the inlet valves have a shorter length than the stems of the outlet valves, the valve springs of the inlet valves preferably being shorter than the valve springs of the outlet valves. It is also advantageous if the stroke of the exhaust valves is greater than the stroke of the intake valves. Inlet and outlet rocker arms can be designed with different lever ratios.

  • a main channel 30 of the intake system is passed between the bearings of the journals 6. As described above, it branches symmetrically in a total of four sub-channels to supply two adjacent cylinders. 2 and 4, the intake rocker arms 4 and the exhaust rocker arms 5 have an asymmetrical layout, so that a free space is formed between the push rods 21 and 22 for the intake rocker arm 4 and the exhaust rocker arm 5 in the region of the engine transverse plane 23, which can be used, for example, to accommodate a fuel supply line, not shown.
