Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for wetting so uniform a flexible strip such as a strip of paper or any other flexible support previously glued commercially, used for franking of letters, packages and parcels, for packaging and labeling.
- European patent application No. 0 293 316 describes a device to wet previously glued labels which includes a wetting element in the form of a brush consisting of a sheet of son.
- the brush is placed in a tank filled with a wetting liquid able to dilute the glue.
- the lower part of the brush is immersed in the liquid anchorage maintained at constant level.
- the upper part of the brush, wetted liquid by capillarity, is kept in contact with the face pasted labels as they pass in front of the brush. If this brush holds better over time than a sponge or a felt pen, it has the disadvantage of not regularly distributing, over time, the wetting liquid on the adhesive side of the labels because it inadvertently loading glue.
- the object of the invention is to provide a device for wetting a flexible strip comprising a wetting element which does not have the aforementioned drawbacks and in particular keeps a uniform wetting even with excess wetting liquid.
- the invention relates to a device for wetting a flexible strip having one face at least partially glued, comprising a rigid rod-shaped mooring element having a lower part immersed in dampening liquid and a wet upper part liquid audit by capillary action, in contact with glued side during scrolling, in a direction of travel, of said strip against said wetting element said upper part of the wetting element being crossed, in said direction of travel of the flexible strip, by a plurality of capillary slots having respective bottoms bathing in the wetting liquid, device characterized in that said slots of capillarity are tilted relative to the direction of travel so to allow wetting over the entire width of the adhesive side of the strip flexible.
- the degree of wetting is increased by sweeping the entire glued area of the strip which is thus uniformly wetted. Indeed, the edges of the strip which wasn't wet before, could cause detachment or deterioration of the label even already stuck.
- the boot time is reduced to a few seconds given the larger volume of displaced liquid.
- an end portion of a capillary slot is aligned in said direction of travel of the flexible strip on a end portion of an adjacent capillary slot.
- the device 1 for wetting a flexible strip such a strip of paper 2 having one side at least partially glued, such as a label comprises a tank 3 in which is placed a rigid bar 4, of substantially parallelepiped shape having its part upper protruding from the opening of the tank.
- the bar rigid 4 rests on studs 5 secured to the bottom of the tank and is maintained to these by means of pins 6 fixed to the studs 5 and coming to be housed at force in recesses 7 arranged in the lower part of the bar.
- a polarizer 7a can possibly be provided to allow a correct assembly of the bar.
- the rigid bar is Removable mounted so that it can be removed from the tank if necessary. he can thus be replaced by a standard bar (as described in the patent cited in the preamble FR 91 16369) when the use of a bar improved according to the invention is not essential.
- the paper strip 2 conventionally driven by a set of rollers and counter-rollers (not shown) scrolls above the bar in a direction of travel and a direction represented by the arrow f, the direction of travel of the paper strip being perpendicular to the axis longitudinal of the bar in place in the tank as visible in Figure 2.
- the previously glued side of the paper strip faces the part upper part of the rigid bar and comes flush with it.
- the upper part of the bar is crossed, in the direction of scrolling of the paper strip, by a plurality of capillarity slots 8 illustrated in isometric perspective in FIG. 3.
- Each slot of capillarity 8 leads to the upper face or from above 4a, the front face 4b and the rear face 4c of the rigid bar 4.
- the front face 4b is slightly chamfered at its upper connecting edge with the top face 4a in order to favor the introduction of the flexible strip.
- slots opening only on the face of the top 4a and the rear face 4c of the bar to obtain the same effect.
- these slots are inclined relative to the direction scrolling in order to obtain a wetting over the entire width of the face glued with flexible tape.
- Figure 5 which is a top view of the improved bar, an end portion (for example the part 82 at the front face 4b) of a slot capillarity is substantially aligned, in the direction of travel f, on an end part (for example part 83 at the rear face) an adjacent capillary slot.
- the inclination of the slots of capillarity is practiced symmetrically with respect to the direction of scroll (sort of forming a chevron arrangement) and the bar 4 is also advantageously provided with a central slot 8a parallel to this direction.
- the inclination is optimized according to the wetting capacity of the bar, the total width of the strip and the number of capillary slots. So, for example, for mooring American labels continuously available on a roll, the Applicant has observed that a bar with seven slots, six of which are tilted at 30 ° allowed to obtain very satisfactory results with a rate of insufficiently wet labels reduced by almost 100% compared to a standard bar conforming to patent FR 91 16369.
- the tank 3 is filled with a wetting liquid such as a dilution of the glue, such as water, the level of which is kept constant by any suitable means such as that described in the aforementioned patent application EP 0 293 316, so that the bottom 9 of the slots bathes continuously in the wetting liquid.
- a wetting liquid such as a dilution of the glue, such as water, the level of which is kept constant by any suitable means such as that described in the aforementioned patent application EP 0 293 316, so that the bottom 9 of the slots bathes continuously in the wetting liquid.
- the bar 4 can be made of an injected thermoplastic material suitable for capillary supplying the wetting liquid from the bottom 9 of the slots capillarity up to the upper face 4a of the bar. He is placed transversely to the path of advance of the paper strip 2 of so that the upper part of it, wetted to said liquid by capillarity, sweeps the entire glued side of the paper strip.
- the bar 4 is also provided at its upper part with grooves 10 arranged between the capillary slots 8 and in places parallel to them. As shown in Figures 1 and 3, the grooves are wider than the through capillary slots thus promoting the return of a surplus of water in the tank 3 while minimizing the friction surface flexible strip on the bar (this material release also allows reduce the weight of the bar). As we can understand, each tooth 11 of the bar (whose total width is greater than that of a groove) formed between two grooves 10, is crossed by a slot capillarity 8 which has a very small width (of the order of a few tenths of mm). The number of teeth and grooves is chosen according to the width paper strip and paper quality.
- the bar 4 has seven capillary slots for the wetting a strip of paper about 4 cm wide.
- the tape speed, height of liquid level of dilution of the adhesive relative to the bottom of the through slots of capillarity, the width of these and their inclination relative to the scrolling direction allow to vary the quantity of water deposited on the glued side of the paper strip.
- a guide member of the strip of paper consisting of an upper part 12 and a part lower 13 is fixed to the tank 3 by fixing screws 14 respectively, 14 ', these two parts being arranged on either side of the strip of paper 2.
- the upper part 12 of the guide member which is mounted on the above the paper strip, for pressure application of the strip of paper 2 on the upper part of the bar 4a, is provided with a plurality of ribs 15 facing the upper part of the bar 4a. Each rib 15 extends parallel to the direction of travel preferably facing a groove 10.
- the upper part 12 of the guide member can also be hinged to be able to pivot between a first position where it is positioned above the paper strip 2 for its pressure application on the upper part of the bar 4a and a second position where it forms a deflector preventing the strip from paper 2 to come flush with the upper part of the bar 4a.
- the invention is not limited to the exemplary embodiment above described and we can provide other variants without going outside of the scope of the invention.
- the slots of capillarity are simply arranged parallel to each other and inclined with respect to the direction of travel of a determined angle, under of course reserves that this provision allows a complete scan of the band.
