- the movable plate 41 is pressed in a clock-wise direction centering around a support axis 40 in Figure 2 so as to separate the cleaning blade 42 from the photoconductor 14.
- a pressing member 44 to press the movable plate 41 so as to be rotated in a counter-clock-wise direction is provided to the upper main body 4 for elastically bringing the cleaning blade 42 in contact with the photoconductor 14 when the process cartridge 8 is inserted into the support frame 7.

- a cartridge dislocating device 48 to dislocate the process cartridge 8 in up and down directions is constituted by the guide rails 11 and 12 formed with the first inclined surface 45 and the guide ribs 29 and 30 formed with the protruding part 47 having the second inclined surface 46.
- the guide ribs 29 and 30 are supported by a flat surface of the middle part of the guide rails 11 and 12 except for the protruding part 47 and thereby the process cartridge 8 is inserted into the support frame 7 in a low position relative to the photoconductor 14. Due to this low position, the developing roller 35 of the developing device 25 and the thin plate 43 of the cleaner 25 does not interfere with the photoconductor 14. Further, in the process of inserting the process cartridge 8 into the support frame 7, the thin plate 41 of the cleaner 26 is rotated in a clock-wise direction ( Figure 2) due to the pressing force of the spring, and therefore the cleaning blade 42 does not interfere with the photoconductor 14 either. Accordingly, the photoconductor 14 will never be damaged in the process of inserting the process cartridge 8 into the support frame 7.
- a leading end of the guide ribs 29 and 30 in the inserting direction of the process cartridge 8 is guided by the first inclined part 45 and thereby dislocated upward, and the protruding part 47 at the end of the front side of the guide ribs 29 and 30 is placed on an upper surface of the guide rails 11 and 12 and thereby the process cartridge 8 is dislocated upward together with the developing device 25 and the cleaner 26.
- the positioning pins 20 and 21 are engaged with holes (not shown) formed in the cartridge body rear plate 28, the first engaging part 36 is engaged with the first positioning part 19 and the second engaging part 38 is engaged with second positioning part 22 of the photoconductor 14, and thereby the position of the developing roller 35 relative to the photoconductor 14 is precisely set.
- the movable plate 41 of the cleaner 26 is pressed by the pressing part 44 to be rotated, and thereby the cleaning blade 42 elastically contacts the photoconductor 14.
- the process cartridge 8 is provided with a shutter 49 which covers a covering area that includes an area beneath a lower part of the circumferential surface of the photoconductor 14 and areas beneath a lower part of a boundary between the photoconductor 14 and the cleaner 26 and a lower part of a boundary between the photoconductor 14 and the developing device 25.
- the shutter 49 is bent in a direction orthogonal to a longitudinal direction of the shutter 49 so as to form a concave at the widthwise center part of the upper surface of the shutter 49.
- the cartridge body 24 of the cartridge 8 is provided with a guide device 50 to guide the shutter 49 to move while maintaining a substantially horizontal posture (with respect to the cartridge as shown in fig. 2) between the covering area and a siding area below the developing device 25.
- the guide device 50 could also be structured to move the shutter 49 to a side area below the cleaner 26.
- An arc-shaped groove 51 is formed in the cartridge body front plate 27 and the cartridge body rear plate 28, and a pin 52 is formed at both ends of the shutter 49 in the axial direction of the photoconductor 14 being inserted in the groove 51 and put to the side of the cleaner 26.
- a wire 53 is passed at both ends of the shutter 49 in the axial direction of the photoconductor 14.
- a bent 54 is formed at both ends of the wire 53 extending along the cartridge body front plate 27 and the cartridge body rear plate 28, respectively.
- a tip end of the bent 54 at the side of the cartridge body rear plate 28 is rotatably supported by the cartridge body rear plate 28 or a part of the developing device 25 and a tip end of the bent 54 at the side of the cartridge body front plate 27 is rotatably supported by the cartridge body front plate 27 or a part of the developing device 25. Therefore, the shutter 49 can be moved while maintaining a substantially horizontal posture by swinging the wire 53 with the upper end of the bent 54 being as a fulcrum of swinging.
- a shutter open/close device 55 for moving the shutter 49 is provided to the inner surface of the cartridge body front plate 27.
- a swing lever 56 for swinging the bent 54 at the front side is rotatably supported by the inner surface of the cartridge body front plate 27 with being pressed in a clock-wise direction by a spring (not shown).
- an intermediate lever 57 contacting the swing lever 56 is rotatably supported via a support axis 58 by the inner surface of the cartridge body front plate 27.
- a stopper 59 to support the intermediate lever 57 is formed on the cartridge body front plate 27.
- the shutter 49 covers the covering area. If the intermediate lever 57 is rotated in this state in a clock-wise direction (upward in the drawing) centering around the support axis 58, the swing lever 56 is rotated in a counter-clock-wise direction pulling the bent 54 of the wire 53 toward the developing device 25 and thereby the shutter 49 is moved from a position below the photoconductor 14 to the siding area below the developing device 25.

- the intermediate lever 57 is released from the open/close member 61 and does not apply to the swing lever 56, which pulls the bent of the wire 53, an external force to press the swing lever 56 to be moved in a direction to move the shutter 49 from the covering area to the siding area, and as a result the shutter 49 is positioned in the covering area between developing device 25 and the cleaner 26.
- the shutter 49 is released from the covering area so as not to hinder an image forming operation.
- the open/close member 61 is moved back in a clock-wise direction (downward in the drawing) resisting the pressing force of the spring due to a reaction force from the intermediate lever 57. Therefore, the open/close member 61 and the intermediate lever 57 will not unnecessarily receive an extra external force from each other.
- the toner received by the shutter 49 is prevented from falling from the shutter 49 because the shutter 49 is maintained in a substantially horizontal posture.
- the shutter 49 is prevented from being inclined when moved between the covering area and the siding area by the provision of the guide device 50 for guiding the shutter 49 to move between the covering area and the siding area while maintaining a substantially horizontal posture.
- the upper surface of the shutter 49 is bent in a direction orthogonal to a longitudinal direction of the shutter 49 so as to form a concave at the widthwise center part of the shutter 49, the toner received by the shutter is put to the widthwise center of the shutter 49 and thereby falling of the toner from the shutter 49 is more effectively prevented.
