Definitions

  • the present invention relates to non-lethal ammunition.
  • the present invention applies in particular, but not exclusively, with ammunition adapted to diffuse an effect substance incapacitating.
  • Document US-A-4 667 601 describes an aerosol grenade according to the preamble of claim 1 and comprising a body that houses a container of pressurized gas, a striker and means capable of preventing an initial movement of the container.
  • the object of the present invention is to propose a new non-lethal ammunition, for example with an incapacitating, reliable effect, of structure simple and economical.
  • Ammunition 10 essentially comprises a socket 50 which houses a projectile 100. Originally, that is to say in storage, the ammunition 10, formed by the sleeve 50 and the projectile 100, is centered on an axis longitudinal 12.
  • the socket 50 essentially comprises a flared base 52 extended on the front by a cylindrical skirt 60 centered on the axis 12.
  • the base 52 houses means for ejecting / propelling the projectile 100.
  • ejection / propulsion means are formed for example and not limited to a primer 54 associated with a pyrotechnic charge 56 forming a propellant gas generator, opening into the chamber internal 62 of the socket 60, ie on the rear of the projectile 100.
  • This projectile 100 essentially comprises a body 110, a slide 120, a container 130 of propellant under pressure and of agent incapacitating and a warhead 140 associated with a striker 150.
  • the body 110 preferably has a cylindrical envelope complementary to the internal chamber 62 of the socket 60.
  • the body 110 preferably has on its rear end means of stabilization 112, for example in the form of a skirt 113, possibly provided with through holes or gills, increasing the effect of stability, even fins.
  • the skirt 113 can be flexible to expand at the exit of the launcher to define a stabilization train.
  • the body 110 is provided with a transverse partition 114.
  • the slide 120 and the container 130 are placed in the chamber 116 of the body 110 located in front of the transverse partition 114.
  • the warhead 140 is fixed to the front end of the body 110.
  • the warhead 140 thus closes the mouth of the chamber 116 formed in the body 110.
  • the warhead 140 is preferably made from rubber and has a convex hemispherical envelope.
  • the striker 150 is located on the internal face of the warhead 140.
  • the striker 150 can be formed for example of a dome 152 provided with a central point 154 whose tapered end is directed towards the rear, or towards the front end of the container 130.
  • the slide 120 is placed between the transverse partition 114 and the striker 154.
  • the slide 120 is guided to slide inside the chamber 116 of the body 110, along the axis 12.
  • the container 130 is itself placed on the slide 120, i.e. between the bottom of the slide 120 adjacent to the transverse partition 114 and the striker 154.
  • container 130 houses an incapacitating agent and a gas pressurized propellant. It is preferably an aerosol reserve and a pressurized gas serving as propellant for this aerosol after rupture of container 130.
  • a spring 160 such as a coil spring is placed between the front end of the container 130 and the striker 154.
  • Such security means can be the subject of different embodiments.
  • these security means comprise at least one tongue 118 coming from the body 110 and elastically deformed towards inside the chamber 116 when the projectile 100 is placed in the socket 60, to serve as a stop for the slide 120.
  • equi-distributed tongues 118 are provided. around axis 12.
  • each tongue 118 is formed of a blade connected to the body 110 by its most forward end 119, a protuberance 117 being provided on the outer face and on the rear end of the tongue 118.
  • the projectile 100 In the storage position (see Figures 1, 2 and 6A) the projectile 100 is located in the socket 50, 60.
  • Each tab 118 is deformed towards the interior of the chamber 116 by the external sleeve 60, the protuberance 117 resting on the internal surface of the skirt 60.
  • the tab or tabs blocks the slide 120 and the container 130 away from the striker 154.
  • external support to the protuberance 117, previously formed by the sleeve 60 is removed.
  • the tongue 118 can then resiliently return to its rest position in aligning the thickness of the wall of the body 110 (FIGS. 3 and 6B). So, the slide 120 is capable of displacement along the axis 12 in the body 110.
  • the projectile 100 is therefore armed.
  • the spring 160 prohibits any inadvertent movement slide 120 and container 130 in proximity to the striker 154.
  • the range and speed of projectile 100 defined by power propulsion means 54 and 56, are adapted to avoid any injury to an individual I targeted by projectile 100.
  • the resulting deceleration of the projectile 100 causes rapid movement of the slide 120 and the container 130 towards the front, ie against the striker 154, by compression spring 160.
  • the container 130 Upon impact of the front end of the container 130 by the striker 154, the container 130 is perforated.
  • the incapacitating agent for example in the form of an aerosol, contained in the container 130 can then be released and distributed under the effect propellant gas stored under pressure in the container 130 ( Figure 4).
  • This diffusion of the incapacitating agent can be made efficient if, as illustrated in FIG. 5, the spring 160 drives subsequently a retreat of the slide 120 and of the container 130 in distance from striker 154 to release the perforation made in the wall of container 130 by this striker 154.
  • the incapacitating agent placed in the container 130 is broadcast on the exterior via at least one orifice 170 formed in the wall of the body 110, in the vicinity of its front end.
  • the present invention is not limited to the dissemination of an agent particular asset. If it concerns preferentially the diffusion of a incapacitating agent, it also applies to the dissemination of active agents of a different nature, such as for example a painting, or even a combination of several active agents.
  • the active agent can be presented under numerous forms, among which there may be mentioned without being limiting: powders, in particular powders in a solvent, fumigants and aerosols.
  • the active agent can be stored in the same container as the propellant gas under pressure or in a chamber separate from it before impact.
  • the pressurized gas can be permanently stored in the container 130 of the projectile or stored in container 130 at moment of expulsion of projectile 100, by transfer of part of the gases generated by the means 54 and 56 in the container 130, by means of a valve provided for this purpose in the rear part of the container 130.
  • the gas ensuring the diffusion of the active agent can be generated by pyrotechnic means initiated during impact on the striker 154.
  • a munition not lethal comprising a body 110 which houses a container 130 capable of generating a gas under pressure and a warhead 140 associated with a striker 154 able to allow the diffusion of an active agent upon impact.
  • the projectile illustrated in Figures 7 to 9 is characterized by the presence of means to ensure its self-destruction, in the event of a malfunction.
  • these means of self-destruction are formed, preferably, a pyrotechnic delay 200 located in the base 52 of the projectile.
  • the delay 200 is adapted to be initiated at the start of the projectile.
  • the projectile illustrated in FIGS. 7 to 9 comprises an improved warhead 140, under shape of a hemispherical cap, preferably silicone, of hardness shoreA between 10 and 30, very preferably between 12 and 15.
  • the projectile illustrated in Figures 7 to 9 is characterized by a deformable structure 210 adjacent to the warhead 140.
  • Such a deformable structure 210 can be the subject of many variants.
  • this deformable structure 210 consists of the front part of the body 110, in the form of a thin metallic envelope, for example a thickness of 0.1 to 0.5mm, possibly pre-weakened, for example under form of longitudinal markings 212 distributed around the periphery of the body 110.
  • such a deformable structure 210 absorbs a part of the energy.
  • Figure 9 Illustrated in Figure 9, a variant adapted to a operation by inertia and which also promotes the dispersion of the agent active, aerosol for example, on impact. More specifically, Figure 9 illustrates the state of the projectile after operation, i.e. after percussion of the container 130, by deformation of the structure 210.
  • the deformable structure 210 can be the subject of numerous variants, for example in the form deformable shock absorbers. According to a specific embodiment, it can be a shock absorber with plastic deformation at the head of projectile produced in the form of an aluminum tube suitable for collapse on itself by absorbing a part of the kinetic energy and transform it into plastic deformation energy upon impact.
  • the striker is fixed and the container capable of displacement.
  • the reverse arrangement may be provided, i.e. the container may be stationary and the striker mobile during impact.
