  • Scanner 18 scans the top surface 22 of sheet 10 and generates first digital data signals on line 26 representatives of the images 16 on this surface.

  • This controller includes a microprocessor which performs high-speed digital analysis on the signals form these lines, and using certain preselected criteria determines if all the images on sheet 10 are acceptable. If these images acceptable, sheet 10 is forwarded without any further manipulation through a reject device 32.
  • the sheet 10 is forwarded for further manipulation by reject station 32.
  • reject station 32 includes a plurality of individual marking devices 34. Preferably, these marking devices are aligned in a direction perpendicular to the movement of sheet 10.
  • the number of marking devices 34 is equal to the number of images 16 on sheet 10.
  • Each mark device may consist of an impact printer, an ink jet printer or any other device suitable for making a preselected reject mark on single image to identify it as a being rejected.
  • the reject mark may be any mark easily visible and clearly identifiable.
  • the reject mark could be a big blob, an oversized X, a bar, the word VOID, and so on.
  • the controller 30 also includes several other devices which control the movement of the sheets 10 consecutively to and through the scanning station and to and through the reject station. It should be understood that the controller 30 may include a single microprocessor device, or several microprocessor devices, each device being dedicated for a particular function, i.e. checking banknotes, moving the sheets 10, and so on.
  • the controller 30 checks the images on sheet 10 on an individual basis. If a sheet has an image, such as 16' determined by the microprocessor to be unacceptable, the controller 30 provides information to the reject station which identifies the actual image to be rejected. For example if 16' in Figure 3 is found to be bad, as the controller 30 forwards the sheet 10 with the unacceptable image through the reject station. The controller 30 also causes the reject station to print the preselected reject mark on image 16' by activating printer 34' at the appropriate time, i.e. when the portion of sheet 10 is disposed directly below marking device 34'.
  • Station 32 is provided with a set of printer devices 34 arranged in an array identical to the array of images 16 shown in Figure 3. In this instance when sheet 10 is aligned with the printer arrays, the specific printer 34' corresponding to the unacceptable image is activated thereby marking the unacceptable image with a reject mark.
  • a sheet 10 may have more than one unacceptable images arranged in a row in a column, or distributed in a random pattern on the sheet.
  • the microprocessor identifies each of the unacceptable images and orders the reject station to mark each of the images on the sheet accordingly.
  • the reject station is constructed to apply the reject mark only on the top surface 22 of sheet 10 even if an unacceptable image is found on the bottom surface because the object is to mark and identify bad documents, and it is not important to mark the actual bad image.
  • the reject station can be provided with two sets of marking devices, one for the top surface and one on the bottom.
  • the sheet 10 is either stacked for delivery or is slit into individual documents and then stacked.

Claims (12)

  1. Dispositif pour le contrôle de matière imprimée comprenant une station de balayage (18, 20) pour recevoir séquentiellement une pluralité de feuilles (10) ayant des images imprimées (16) arrangées en une matrice bi-dimensionnelle, ladite station de balayage (18, 20) générant des données (26, 28) décrivant lesdites images et des moyens de traitement des données (30) recevant lesdites données pour analyser lesdites données et juger si lesdites images correspondent à des critères prédéterminés, dans lequel chaque feuille (10) a une pluralité de documents, chaque document étant défini par une image (16) soit sur une face, soit sur les deux faces (22, 24) de la feuille (10), et dans lequel le dispositif comprend une station de marquage (32) reliée auxdits moyens de traitement des données (30) recevant des feuilles (10) séquentiellement de ladite station de balayage (18, 20), caractérisé en ce que ladite station de marquage (32) comprend un ensemble de dispositifs d'impression (34) arrangés en une matrice identique à ladite matrice d'images pour marquer avec une marque de rejet tout document défini par au moins une image (16') qui a été jugée par lesdits moyens de traitement des données (30) ne pas correspondre auxdits critères.
  2. Dispositif selon la revendication 1, dans lequel chacune desdites feuilles (10) a une face supérieure (22) avec des images supérieures (16) et une face inférieure (24) avec des images inférieures (16), chaque image supérieure étant en registre avec l'image inférieure pour définir un document.
  3. Dispositif selon la revendication 1, dans lequel la station de marquage (32) marque ladite image supérieure.
  4. Dispositif selon la revendication 3, dans lequel chacune desdites têtes d'impression (34) consiste en une imprimante à impact.
  5. Dispositif selon la revendication 3, dans lequel chacune desdites tête d'impression (34) consiste en une imprimante à jet d'encre.
  6. Dispositif d'impression et contrôle comprenant un dispositif d'impression (12, 14) pour imprimer une pluralité de documents sur une feuille (10), chaque document étant déterminé par une image (16) soit sur une face, soit sur les deux faces (22, 24) de la feuille (10), lesdites images étant arrangées en une matrice bi-dimensionnelle, des moyens de balayage (18, 20) pour recevoir ladite feuille (10) dudit dispositif d'impression (12, 14) et pour générer des données (26, 28) décrivant lesdites images (16), des moyens de traitement des données (30) pour recevoir lesdites données et comparer lesdites données à des critères prédéterminés pour juger si chacune desdites images est acceptable et des moyens de marquage (32, 34) pour recevoir ladite feuille (10), caractérisé en ce que lesdits moyens de marquage (32, 34) comprennent un ensemble de dispositifs d'impression (34) arrangés en une matrice identique à ladite matrice d'images pour marquer avec une marque de rejet tout document défini par au moins une image (16') qui a été jugée par lesdits moyens de traitement des données (30) ne pas correspondre auxdits critères.
  7. Dispositif selon la revendication 6, dans lequel ladite feuille (10) présente une face supérieure (22) et une face inférieure (24) et ledit dispositif d'impression imprime des images supérieures (12, 14) et des images inférieures (16) sur lesdites faces supérieure, respectivement inférieure.
  8. Dispositif selon la revendication 7, dans lequel lesdits moyens de balayage comprennent un scanner supérieur (18) et un scanner inférieur (20) pour balayer lesdites faces supérieure (22), respectivement inférieure (24).
  9. Dispositif selon la revendication 7, dans lequel chacune desdites images supérieures (16) est en registre avec chacune des images inférieures (16) pour définir un document, et dans lequel les moyens de marquage (34) marquent ladite image supérieure (16) dudit document lorsqu'une desdites images supérieure ou inférieure (16') desdits documents est inacceptable.
  10. Méthode pour le contrôle d'images (16) sur des feuilles comprenant les étapes de balayage desdites feuilles (10) de manière séquentielle pour générer des données décrivant lesdites images (16), des données de comparaison de chacune desdites images (16) avec des critères prédéterminés pour juger si l'image correspond aux critères prédéterminés, dans laquelle la feuille comprend une pluralité de documents, chacun étant défini par une image (16) soit sur une face, soit sur les deux faces de la feuille (10), les images des documents étant arrangées en une matrice bi-dimensionnelle et dans laquelle la méthode comprend l'étape de marquage avec une marque de rejet tout document défini par au moins une image (16') qui a été jugée ne pas correspondre aux critères prédéterminés, caractérisée en ce que l'étape de marquage est effectuée avec des dispositifs d'impression arrangés en une matrice identique à ladite matrice d'images.
  11. Méthode selon la revendication 10, dans laquelle chaque document est défini par une image supérieure et une image inférieure (16) disposées sur les surfaces supérieure (22) et inférieure (24) de ladite feuille (10), et dans laquelle ladite image supérieure d'un document est marquée avec ladite marque de rejet si une desdites images inférieure et supérieure dudit document est inacceptable.
  12. Méthode selon la revendication 10, dans laquelle ladite feuille (10) a une face supérieure et une face inférieure avec des images supérieures et inférieures, lesdites images supérieures et inférieures étant balayées durant l'étape de balayage.
