Definitions

  • the present invention relates generally to a cleaning device for printing units and in particular to a device for automatically cleaning blanket cylinders in a lithographic offset printing machine.
  • blanket cylinders In offset printing machines, the function of the blanket cylinders is to transfer the print images from the printing plates to a material web. Significantly, blanket cylinders carry blankets with an attached rubber layer through which the printed images are transferred.
  • one or more printing plates are wound around the outer surface of a plate cylinder which rotates in contact with the blanket cylinder.
  • a web of material runs between two blanket cylinders, which are mounted in such a way that one blanket cylinder serves as a printing cylinder for the other, resulting in the simultaneous printing on both sides of the web of material.
  • the present invention provides a device for cleaning a blanket cylinder in a web offset printing press, which comprises the following features: at least one brush roller for removing foreign objects from the blanket cylinder; means for positioning the brush roller against the blanket cylinder and the web; and means for cleaning the brush roller from the foreign matter removed from the blanket cylinder.
  • the present invention can also be used to clean the impression cylinder as well as the blanket cylinder and blanket.
  • the present invention also provides a device for spraying the brush roller with a blanket washing solution.
  • the brush roller, the blanket cylinder and the web form a closed area and thus create a barrier which prevents blanket washing solution and foreign matter from getting into the adjacent inking and dampening units. This helps to maintain the print quality of the printed products during the printing process.
  • FIG. 1 shows a device 10 for the automatic cleaning of blanket cylinders with an upper washing unit 12 and a lower washing unit 14.
  • the upper washing unit 12 has a rotating brush roller 16, which is simultaneously with an upper blanket cylinder 18, on which a blanket 20 is axially attached, and comes into contact with a web 22.
  • the lower washing unit 14 has the same rotating brush roller 24, which simultaneously comes into contact with a lower blanket cylinder 26, on which a blanket 28 is axially attached, and with the web 22.
  • the cleaning device 10 is preferably integrated into a printing unit of the printing press.
  • the upper and lower washing units 12 and 14 are in a parking position. In this position, namely in the OFF mode (not shown), the upper washing unit 12 is next to the upper blanket cylinder 18 and above the web 22, but is not in contact with the upper blanket cylinder or web, and the lower washing unit 14 is adjacent to the lower blanket cylinder 26 and below the web 22, but is not in contact with the lower blanket cylinder or web.
  • the cleaning device 10 When the cleaning device 10 is in the OFF mode, the machine can run at normal speed with the web 22 moving between the upper and lower washing units 12 and 14 and a normal one Allows printing. If the upper and lower blankets 20 and 28 are to be cleaned, the cleaning device 10 can be moved to its starting position at any machine speed up to 914 m (3000 feet) per minute.
  • the cleaning device 10 is moved into its setting position by pneumatic cylinders. These pneumatic cylinders move the cleaning device 10 on a straight path at an angle of 24 1/2 ° to the web 22 towards the blanket cylinders 18 and 26 until the brush roller 16 is in contact with the blanket cylinder 18 and the web 22 and the brush roller 24 is in contact with the blanket cylinder 26 and the web 22. In both the set and set positions, the cleaning device 10 serves as protection, thereby preventing an operator's hand or arm from getting into the gap between the upper and lower blanket cylinders 18 and 26.
  • the brush roller 16 rotates in the same direction, but at a lower driving speed than the blanket cylinder 18, so that a respective point corresponding to an opposite point near the contact point of the brush roller 16 and the upper blanket cylinder 18 moves in the opposite direction .
  • the brush roller 16 can brush over the surface of the rubber blanket 20 and clean it of foreign bodies and other dirt.
  • the brush roller 16 is supplied with a washing solution containing a solvent, for example water. With the brush roller, the foreign bodies are then released from the pores of the rubber blanket 20 and through the gap between the upper and lower blanket cylinders 18 and 26 running web 22 removed. Any residues remaining after the brush roller 16 comes into contact with the rubber blanket 20 on the brush roller, consisting of blanket washing solution and foreign bodies, are removed from the brush roller 16 by a stripper roller 30 and conveyed onto the web 22.
  • a washing solution containing a solvent for example water.
  • the brush roller 16, the blanket cylinder 18 and the web 22 form an upper closed triangular area.
  • the web 22 coming into contact with the brush roller 16 further cleans the brush roller and serves as a barrier, thereby preventing a mist and / or other foreign matter forming from a blanket washing solution from coming into contact with the inking unit and dampening unit. All parts of the triangle are in motion, creating a continuous, self-cleaning surface.
  • the blanket wash solution remains in the triangular region until it is drained through the gap between the upper and lower blanket cylinders 18 and 26.
  • a stripper roller 30, the surface speed of which is lower than that of the brush roller 16, is rotated in contact with the brush roller 16.
  • the stripper roller 30 throws foreign objects from the brush roller 16 directly onto the web 22.
  • the stripper roller 30 is mounted within the upper triangular region; as a result, no foreign bodies can collect on the stripper roller 30 and it is also self-cleaning.
  • the stripper roller 30 may have a smooth surface, but preferably it has grooves extending axially along its length.
  • the lower washing unit 14 is operated in a similar manner to the upper washing unit 12.
  • the lower one Blanket cylinder 26 and brush roller 24 contacting web 22 simultaneously rotate in the same direction, but at a lower driving speed than blanket cylinder 26, so that a respective point corresponding to an opposite point near the contact point of brush roller 24 and lower blanket cylinder 26 is in opposite directions Moving direction.
  • the brush roller 24 can brush over the surface of the rubber blanket 28 and clean it of foreign bodies and other dirt.
  • the brush roller 24, the blanket cylinder 26 and the web 22 form a lower closed triangular area.
  • the web 22 coming into contact with the brush roller 24 further cleans the brush roller and serves as a barrier, thereby preventing a mist and / or other foreign matter formed from a blanket washing solution from coming into contact with the inking unit and dampening unit. All parts of the triangle are in motion, creating a continuous, self-cleaning surface.
  • the blanket wash solution remains in the triangular region until it is drained through the gap between the upper and lower blanket cylinders 18 and 26.
  • a stripper roller 32 the surface speed of which is lower than that of the brush roller 24, is rotated in contact with the brush roller 24.
  • the stripper roller 32 throws foreign bodies from the brush roller 24 directly onto the web 22.
  • the stripper roller 32 is mounted within the lower triangular region; as a result, no foreign bodies can collect on the stripper roller 32 and it is also self-cleaning.
  • the stripping roller 32 can be a have a smooth surface, but preferably it has grooves extending axially along its length.
  • a drip container 34 is provided under the lower washing unit 14, in which the dirty water can collect.
  • the upper wash unit 12 includes a spray shield 36 which can be pivoted about the brush roller 16 away from the web 22 when the cleaning device is actuated.
  • the spray shield 36 is pivoted about a slide bearing bush 38 of the brush roller 16 and moved forwards and backwards by a joint 40 when the upper washing unit 12 slides into its setting position.
  • the shield 36 is prevented from contacting the web 22 and the brush roller 16 is allowed to form the third leg of the triangle.
  • the shield 36 in its retracted position also functions as a drip tray. Excess blanket washing solution that could drip from the brush roller 16 is collected by the shield 36 and thus prevents drops from falling directly onto the web 22. Drain holes 42 are provided at each end of the shield 36 so that excess solution can flow into the drip container 34.
  • the brush rollers are driven by an air motor 44 via a gear train 46.
  • the air flow is throttled on the outlet side of the air motor 44.
  • a throttled exhaust line maintains the engine at a constant RPM at over 30% of the machine speed at a given air pressure.
  • the motor 44 is on one Cross connection attached so that it is protected from solvents and foreign bodies.
  • the blanket wash solution is fed to the brush roll 16 through a spray bar 48 having a plurality of side openings through which the wash solution is sprayed, as shown in FIG. 2. These openings are created diametrically so that a uniform flow through each opening is ensured.
  • a sealing screen is provided in order to divert the blanket washing solution to selected openings so that it is only applied to the part of the brush roller 16 that comes into contact with the web.
  • This sealing screen consists of sleeves 50 which fit over the spray bar 48 and are rotated in such a way that they close the openings.
  • the sleeves 50 are preferably 11.4 cm (4.5 inches) long, which is half the width of a sheet, and are attached along the length of the spray bar 48.
  • Joints 52 are provided which move the sleeves 50 into position.
  • the hinges 52 connect the sleeves 50 to sleeves 54.
  • the sleeves 54 are placed around a cross connection 56 and also moved into position to open or close the respective sealing screen.
  • the position of the cuffs 54 determines the opening and / or closing during web retraction since any regulation that would require closure would be off the web.
  • Rubber blanket washing solution overflowing from the spray bar 48 is collected in a groove 58 provided under the spray bar 48, as shown in FIG. 2.
  • This blanket washing solution is passed through a drain pipe 60 into the drip container 34 and fed to a reprocessing system, as shown in FIG. 1.
  • the lower wash unit 14 has a similar blanket wash solution delivery system with a spray bar 62 as shown in FIG. 1. However, instead of a pivotable spray shield, a drip container 34 is used for excess washing solution which may drip from the brush roller 24.
  • the drip container 34 has a wire mesh 64 which is located at a distance from the bottom of the drip container and is provided with disposable filter paper 66 which completely covers the wire mesh.
  • the solids are thus filtered out of the blanket washing solution, which is now contaminated with paint, and in this way clogging of the sewage pipes is prevented.
  • the blanket wash solution is then pumped into a waste water tank for further distillation.
  • the application of the present invention is also intended for various other arrangements, for example for cleaning the printing cylinders and the blanket cylinders and blankets.
  • the present invention is therefore not intended to be limited to cleaning the blanket-to-blanket printing units.
