Definitions

  • the invention relates to a material feed device for a paper machine according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • Headboxes for paper machines have been built for a long time and in many variations.
  • the so-called hydraulic headboxes in which the required turbulence is essentially generated by hydraulic measures, have proven particularly successful.
  • tube bundles or step diffusers can be used, in which the pressure energy present in the feed device is partially converted into kinetic energy, that is to say turbulence.
  • the turbulence generators are often constructed from individual turbulence generating elements connected in parallel.
  • the invention has for its object to provide a headbox with the help of which the flow can be influenced in a particularly effective manner so that the desired flow shape can be set in the suspension jet leaving the headbox without disturbing the basis weight cross-sectional profile setting. Furthermore, the effort for these measures should be as low as possible.
  • the invention takes advantage of the property of the hydraulic turbulence generators commonly used to divide the flow into a plurality of parallel individual flows. If - as described in the claims - the area between two successive turbulence generators is divided into chambers by partitions, the flow conditions can be changed in a targeted manner in these chambers by withdrawing or supplying liquid or gas, in particular air. Because of the partitions, this is differentiated, i.e. for each chamber individually, possible.
  • the pressure can be differentiated by constant and controlled material suspension withdrawal from the above-mentioned chamber in such a way that an optimal flow is generated in the nozzle space, that is to say the space following the last turbulence generator.
  • the supply of stock suspension or water can also - if regulated accordingly will - be used to influence the flow in the nozzle area.

  • Fig. 1 you can see the essential parts of the substance according to the invention.
  • the pulp intended for paper production can be distributed as an aqueous suspension through the suspension feed device 1 over the entire width of the headbox and from there into a first turbulence generator 2.
  • This consists of a large number of turbulence generating elements 4, shown here using the example of step diffusers. But tube bundle or a thick perforated plate would also be conceivable.
  • This is followed downstream by an intermediate space, which is followed by a further turbulence generator 3 with turbulence generation elements 5.
  • the different turbulence generators can be designed differently.
  • the subsequent nozzle space 7 is suitable for significantly accelerating the suspension flow during operation of the device and discharging it into the sheet formation area of the paper machine (not shown here) through the outlet gap 8 which can be adjusted, for example, with the aid of an indicated aperture 18.
  • the space between two turbulence generators is delimited at the top and bottom by the outer walls 9 and 9 ' and laterally by outer walls 9 "(FIG. 2).
  • This space is divided into several intermediate chambers 6 by the partition walls 10.

  • the valve 14 is controlled by a regulator 15, which is indicated by arrows indicated signals processed. Such signals can originate from measurements on the paper web formed or can be empirical values.
  • FIG. 2 shows the same device in plan view with cut turbulence generators 2 and 3 and a plurality of intermediate chambers 6 divided by partitions 10. At the end of the suspension feed device 1, an overflow 16 is visible.
  • FIG. 3 shows an arrangement of the headbox directed obliquely downwards towards the paper machine screen 17, as a result of which the suspension feed device 1 has the relatively highest position.
  • the headbox in FIG. 4 has an approximately rectangular deflection of the main flow direction in the area of the intermediate chambers 6. This redirection in particular can be of advantage because it enables the pressure and flow to be evened out.
  • the same figure also shows a further modification, namely the combination of an upstream, highly effective 3-stage turbulence generator and a less effective 2-stage downstream. It is easy to see that the same combination can also bring advantages for headboxes without redirecting the main flow direction.
  • Fig. 5 shows the section of a variant of the headbox acc. Fig. 4.
  • an air cushion L is present in the intermediate chambers 6 above the suspension S and is connected to the tube 12.
  • Such an air cushion can also be useful without redirecting the main flow direction in the intermediate chambers 6.
  • the upstream turbulence generator 2 can also be shorter than the following one.
  • FIG. 6 A further embodiment is shown in FIG. 6.
  • the example there has a smaller number of turbulence generator 2 located upstream
  • Turbulence generating elements than on the downstream 3. This makes the upstream turbulence generator cheaper to manufacture, but is for the intended purpose is still effective enough. In many cases, the suspension is supposed to be deflocculated by relatively rough turbulence.
  • the downstream turbulence generator produces a rather fine, uniform turbulence, which is particularly advantageous for the suspension flowing immediately into the nozzle chamber.
  • the sheet formed then has a uniform, soft formation, as is particularly desired for writing and printing papers.
